The article analyses new trends in aircraft control under instrument flight rules. It describes the possibilities of using conventional area navigation methods with GNSS devices in approach phase. The authors describe the actual possibilities of using GNSS, especially GPS system, during navigation. In the next part, arrival and departure RNAV routes that are actually in use are described. The article also discusses briefing and preparation for RNAV approaches and describes requirements for the aircrew.

This article highlights the importance of examining human factors in aviation, especially in air traffic control. It analyzes the factors affecting performance of air traffic controllers (ATC) and increase or decrease of security. The aim is to eliminate the risk factors affecting air traffic controllers in the working and the training phase.

Slovak Republic as a member state of EASA is bound to adopt aviation regulations. There are some terminology discrepancies when translating EASA regulations and general text from English to Slovak language. Safety hazard and safety risk in Slovak language have different meaning than in English language. The subject of the paper is therefore to explain some peculiarities in definitions according to ICAO Safety Management System, USA FAA and Slovak legislation. Terms “risk” and “hazard” according the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the USA Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) are compared to Slovak equivalents. In Slovak administrative law the term ‘hazard’ is missing. Instead of the term hazard terms ‘danger’, ‘threat’ or ‘danger’ are used.
