Processes taking place within the magma plumbing system can exert an important control on the composition of mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORB). Plagioclase ultraphyric basalts (PUBs) found at magma-poor mid-ocean ridges exhibit diverse disequilibrium characteristics, which can provide vital insights for distinguishing the complex effects of melt transport from those of source heterogeneity on the compositions of MORBs. Here, we present new insights into magmatic processes using integrated petrologic and geochemical studies of the PUBs from two zones (~ 50° and ~ 64°E longitude) along the ultraslow-spreading southwest Indian ridge (SWIR). The studied PUBs have complex mineral morphologies, including skeletal and acicular crystals, glomerocrysts with open and closed structure, reverse and normally zoned crystals and external and internal resorption even in single samples. Both low- and high-Fo olivine and An plagioclase crystals are in disequilibrium with their matrix glasses. Some plagioclase phenocrysts have repeated oscillatory zoning (An77–86) going from their core to rim and an abrupt decrease in An content toward the rim. Disequilibrium Sr isotopic compositions are present at several scales: between cores and rims of plagioclase crystals, between different plagioclase crystals and between plagioclase and their host lavas. Inferred pressures of magma storage range from 0.3 to 11.3 kbar. The textural and compositional diversity of crystals together with the variability in melt compositions reflect the combined influences of source heterogeneity and magmatic processes (e.g. crystallization, assimilation and magma mixing processes) taking place within crystal mushes. Our data combined with previous studies suggest that the magmatic processes within the SWIR magma plumbing system involve formation, disaggregation and juxtaposition of crystal-rich mush zones.

OBJECTIVE We aimed to assess the effect of SGLT2i on arrhythmias by conducting a meta-analysis using data from randomized controlled trials(RCTs). BACKGROUND Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have shown cardioprotective effects via multiple mechanisms that may also contribute to decrease arrhythmias risk. METHODS We searched in databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and clinicaltrials.gov) up to April 2023. RCTs comparing SGLT2i with placebo were included. The effects of SGLT2i on atrial fibrillation(AF), atrial flutter(AFL), composite AF/AFL, ventricular fibrillation(VF), ventricular tachycardia(VT), ventricular extrasystoles(VES), sudden cardiac death(SCD) and composite VF/VT/SCD were evaluated. RESULTS 33 placebo-controlled RCTs were included, comprising 88,098 patients (48,585 in SGLT2i vs. 39,513 in placebo). The mean age was 64.9 ± 9.4 years, 63.0% were male. The mean follow-up was 1.4 ± 1.1 years. The pooled-results showed that SGLT2i was associated with a significantly lower risk of AF [risk ratio(RR): 0.88, 95% confidence interval(CI) 0.78-1.00, P = 0.04] and composite AF/AFL (RR: 0.86, 95%CI 0.77-0.96, P = 0.01). This favorable effect appeared to be substantially pronounced in patients with HFrEF, male gender, dapagliflozin, and > 1 year follow-up. For SCD, only in heart failure patients, SGLT2i were found to be associated with a borderline lower risk of SCD (RR: 0.67, P = 0.05). No significant effects of SGLT2i on other ventricular arrhythmic outcomes were found. CONCLUSIONS SGLT2i lowers the risks of AF and AF/AFL, and this favorable effect appeared to be particularly pronounced in patients with HFrEF, male gender, dapagliflozin, and longer follow-up (> 1 year). SGLT2i lowers the risk of SCD only in heart failure patients.

QR codes, prevalent in daily applications, lack visual appeal due to their conventional black-and-white design. Integrating aesthetics while maintaining scannability poses a challenge. In this paper, we introduce a novel diffusion-model-based aesthetic QR code generation pipeline, utilizing pre-trained ControlNet and guided iterative refinement via a novel classifier guidance (SRG) based on the proposed Scanning-Robust Loss (SRL) tailored with QR code mechanisms, which ensures both aesthetics and scannability. To further improve the scannability while preserving aesthetics, we propose a two-stage pipeline with Scanning-Robust Perceptual Guidance (SRPG). Moreover, we can further enhance the scannability of the generated QR code by post-processing it through the proposed Scanning-Robust Projected Gradient Descent (SRPGD) post-processing technique based on SRL with proven convergence. With extensive quantitative, qualitative, and subjective experiments, the results demonstrate that the proposed approach can generate diverse aesthetic QR codes with flexibility in detail. In addition, our pipelines outperforming existing models in terms of Scanning Success Rate (SSR) 86.67% (+40%) with comparable aesthetic scores. The pipeline combined with SRPGD further achieves 96.67% (+50%). Our code will be available https://github.com/jwliao1209/DiffQRCode.

The Perceived Macroeconomic Uncertainty (PMU) is seen as unpredictable volatility about the future economic development at aggregate level. While prior research explains how uncertainty (in general) influences international trade flows, research on the role of PMU in international trade flows is scarce. This article attempts to address this lack of understanding. Utilizing the gravity model and multicountry level data, our results show that: (1) the level of PMU in both importing countries and exporting countries has a significant negative impact on exports, but the effect of PMU of importing countries is larger than that of PMU of exporting countries; (2) PMU in importing countries has a trade diversion effect, suggesting that exporters are more willing to export to countries with relatively lower level of PMU; (3) the negative effects of PMU on trade have declined after the 2008 Great Financial Crisis, which may be related to the relative stability of the PMU index since the Great Financial Crisis and the increased concern of traders about other factors, such as trade policy uncertainty and Sino-US economic conflicts. Our research enriches prior findings that examine the effects of uncertainty on trade flows and carries important policy implications

The molecular mechanisms of different responses to methotrexate + leflunomide + infliximab therapy in patients with RA were explored in this study.Methods: Infliximab was administered to patients with RA whose disease activity score was higher than 5.1 after 1 month of combination therapy with methotrexate and leflunomide. After 14 weeks of undergoing triple therapy, patients with RA were classified as responders and non-responders. Protein profiles at baseline and 14th week were investigated via isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ), and proteins with significant differences ≥ 1.2 folds change or ≤ 0.8 folds change were defined as differentially expressed proteins (DEPs). Overlapping DEPs between responders and non-responders were confirmed by parallel reaction monitoring (PRM). Bioinformatic analyses were performed for DEPs.Results: The results revealed 5 non-responders (NRs) and 15 responders (Rs). iTRAQ analysis indicated 13 overlapping DEPs and included 6 opposite change DEPs such as testicular tissue protein Li 70, cofilin 1, fibrinogen beta chain, galectin-10, serotransferrin (TF) and albumin. The difference in serotransferrin between responders and non-responders confirmed by PRM was significant. Sparse matrices arising from the solution of systems of partial differential equations often exhibit a perfect block structure. It means that the nonzero blocks in the sparsity pattern are fully dense (and typically small), e.g., when several unknown quantities are associated with the same grid point. However, similar block orderings can be sometimes found also on general unstructured matrices by ordering consecutively rows and columns with a similar sparsity pattern. We also can treat some zero entries of the reordered matrix as nonzero elements to enlarge the blocks to improve the performance. The reordering results in linear systems with blocks of variable size in general. Our recently developed parallel package pVBARMS (parallel variable block algebraic recursive multilevel solver) for distributed memory computers takes advantage of these frequently occurring structures in the design of the multilevel incomplete LU factorization preconditioner. It maximizes computational efficiency and achieves increased throughput during the computation and improved reliability on realistic applications. The method detects automatically any existing block structure in the matrix without any users prior knowledge of the underlying problem, and exploits it to maximize computational efficiency. We proposed a study of performance comparison of pVBAMRS and other popular solvers on a set of general linear systems arising from different application field. We also report on the numerical and parallel scalability of the pVBARMS package for solving the turbulent, Reynolds-averaged, Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations.

The paper describes an improved parallel MPI-based implementation of VBARMS, a variable block variant of the pARMS preconditioner proposed by Li,~Saad and Sosonkina [NLAA, 2003] for solving general nonsymmetric linear systems. The parallel VBARMS solver can detect automatically exact or approximate dense structures in the linear system, and exploits this information to achieve improved reliability and increased throughput during the factorization. A novel graph compression algorithm is discussed that finds these approximate dense blocks structures and requires only one simple to use parameter. A complete study of the numerical and parallel performance of parallel VBARMS is presented for the analysis of large turbulent Navier-Stokes equations on a suite of three-dimensional test cases.

CuO powders composed of different rod-like clusters or dandelion-like nanospheres are prepared by a low-temperature thermal decomposition process of Cu(OH)2 precursors, which are obtained via a catalytic template method. A tentative mechanism is proposed to explain the formation and transformation of different Cu(OH)2 nanostructures. X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, infrared spectra analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements, and galvanostatic cell cycling are employed to characterize the structures and electrochemical performance of these CuO samples. The results show that these CuO samples obtained after 500 °C calcination have a stable cycling performance with a reversible capacity of over 587 mA h g-1 after 50 cycles. The dandelion-like CuO electrode shows the best rate performance with a high capacity of 511 mA h g-1 at 4C.

Based on a panel data set of 63 B&R countries during the period 2003 to 2016, we find that China’s ODI improves the institutional quality of B&R countries not only in the short run but also in the long run. Further, although China’s ODI exerts no differential impacts on host country institutional dimensions of “control of corruption,” “government effectiveness,” and “political stability” in countries with different natural resource endowments, it improves their institutional dimensions of “regulatory quality” and “rule of law,” implying that China’s ODI may help the host B&R countries minimize the “resource curse”. As one of the most important strategies for China’s opening-up development in the current era, the B&R initiative serves as means to promote sustainable development of B&R countries. The article therefore contributes to existing scholarship on the institutional effects of China’s ODI and sheds light on the mechanisms that drive sustainable development.
