The sluggish kinetics of Fe2+ regeneration seriously hinders the performance of Fenton process. However, the conventional Fenton system excessively stifle hydrogen-producing reactions, ignoring the significance of active hydrogen (H*) in Fe3+ reduction. Herein, a strategy of H* modulation is developed by decorating molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) on a graphite felt (GF) cathode to boost Fe2+ regeneration in solar-driven electro-Fenton (SEF) process. With MoS2 regulation, moderately dispersed MoS2 on GF can serve as a bifunctional cathode, where the H* and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) are simultaneously generated through H+ reduction and O2 reduction, respectively. The in-situ generated H2O2 can trigger Fenton reactions with Fe2+, while the H* with robust reducing potential can significantly expedite Fe3+ reduction, consequently enhancing the HO• production. Both DFT calculations and EPR experiments confirm that H* can be activated via MoS2 decoration. The results show that Fe2+ concentration in the MoS2 @GF-SEF system remains at 15.74 mg/L (56.21%) after 6 h, which is 17.89 times that of the GF-SEF system. Moreover, the HO• content and organics degradation rate in the MoS2 @GF-SEF are 3.61 and 5.30 times those of the GF-SEF, respectively. This study provides a practical cathode strategy of H* modulation to enhance HO• production and electro-Fenton process. Environmental Implication: Boosting Fe2+ regeneration is of great value for the Electro-Fenton process. Herein, report a strategy to achieve this goal based on a MoS2 @GF cathode. Remarkably, the MoS2 @GF system exhibits exceptional efficiency for both various refractory organic compounds with environmentally hazardous effects and sterilization aspects, which can also work over a wide range of pH values (3−11). Specially, this system is driven only by solar energy. These characteristics make the electro-Fenton system more suitable for practical wastewater treatment. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

A central challenge in quantum information science and technology is achieving real-time estimation and feedforward control of quantum systems. This challenge is compounded by the inherent inhomogeneity of quantum resources, such as qubit properties and controls, and their intrinsically probabilistic nature. This leads to stochastic challenges in error detection and probabilistic outcomes in processes such as heralded remote entanglement. Given these complexities, optimizing the construction of quantum resource states is an NP-hard problem. In this paper, we address the quantum resource scheduling issue by formulating the problem and simulating it within a digitized environment, allowing the exploration and development of agent-based optimization strategies. We employ reinforcement learning agents within this probabilistic setting and introduce a new framework utilizing a Transformer model that emphasizes self-attention mechanisms for pairs of qubits. This approach facilitates dynamic scheduling by providing real-time, next-step guidance. Our method significantly improves the performance of quantum systems, achieving more than a 3$\times$ improvement over rule-based agents, and establishes an innovative framework that improves the joint design of physical and control systems for quantum applications in communication, networking, and computing.

This study aimed to explore the overall and sex-based relationship between serum VCAN levels and albuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods: 428 patients with T2DM and 84 healthy individuals were enrolled. Patients with diabetes were separated into normal albuminuria, microalbuminuria, and macroalbuminuria groups, according to their urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (UACR). Serum VCAN levels were tested using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Results: Compared with males, female patients were older, and had higher total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, but lower body mass index, diastolic blood pressure, glycated hemoglobin A1, alanine aminotransferase, urinary albumin (UA), and serum creatinine (SCr) (P < 0.05). The VCAN levels in male patients with T2DM were significantly higher than those in the healthy individuals. Male patients with T2DM with albuminuria (micro and macro) had higher levels of VCAN than in patients with normal albuminuria; the highest level was seen in patients with macroalbuminuria (P < 0.05). However, the relationship between serum total bilirubin (TBIL) with diabetic macro- and microvascular complications remains unknown. We aimed to examine the association of macro- and microvascular complications with serum TBIL levels.Methods: Serum TBIL was measured in 648 patients with T2DM. Demographic and clinical data were obtained from the inpatient medical record system. Serum TBIL was measured with an automatic biochemistry analyzer according to routine protocols. Parameters of vascular complications, including ankle-brachial index, carotid intima-media thickness, estimated glomerular filtration rate and the urinary albumin to creatinine ratio, were measured and calculated. The association between TBIL and diabetic macro- and microvascular complications was analyzed.Results: In multivariable logistic regression, after adjustment for age, sex, body mass index and diabetic duration, higher serum TBIL levels were significantly associated with decreased odds of microalbuminuria (OR = 0.31, [95% CI] 0.16– 0.61, P = 0.003) and chronic kidney disease (OR = 0.19, [95% CI] 0.09– 0.41, P < 0.001). These associations were only found in male but not in female patients. We propose a field-based design for dielectric antennas to interface diamond color centers in dielectric membranes with a Gaussian propagating far field. This antenna design enables an efficient spin-photon interface with a Purcell factor exceeding 400 and a 93% mode overlap to a 0.4 numerical aperture far-field Gaussian mode. The antenna design with the back reflector is robust to fabrication imperfections, such as variations in the dimensions of the dielectric perturbations and the emitter dipole location. The field-based dielectric antenna design provides an efficient free-space interface for closely packed arrays of quantum memories for multiplexed quantum repeaters, arrayed quantum sensors, and modular quantum computers.

Olivine lithium iron phosphate is a technologically important electrode material for lithium-ion batteries and a model system for studying electrochemically driven phase transformations. Despite extensive studies, many aspects of the phase transformation and lithium transport in this material are still not well understood. Here we combine operando hard X-ray spectroscopic imaging and phase-field modeling to elucidate the delithiation dynamics of single-crystal lithium iron phosphate microrods with long-axis along the [010] direction. Lithium diffusivity is found to be two-dimensional in microsized particles containing ∼3% lithium-iron anti-site defects. Our study provides direct evidence for the previously predicted surface reaction-limited phase-boundary migration mechanism and the potential operation of a hybrid mode of phase growth, in which phase-boundary movement is controlled by surface reaction or lithium diffusion in different crystallographic directions.
