Der Artikel lotet das Themenfeld Sport und Migration in der osteuropäischen Sportgeschichte aus zwei Perspektiven aus: Migration von Sportlerinnen und Sportlern und Sport von Migrantinnen und Migranten. Wesentliche Themen sind dabei der Kulturtransfer der britischen Sportarten nach Osteuropa durch elitäre Migration, die Migration von Profisportlern und -sportlerinnen seit der Zwischenkriegszeit, Flucht, Vertreibung und Deportation von Spitzensportlerinnen und -sportlern, migrantische Sportorganisationen und der Aufstieg von Sportlerinnen und Sportlern mit Migrationshintergrund in den Spitzensport. Die allgemeine Darstellung dieser Aspekte wird ergänzt durch drei Fallstudien zu jüdisch-ungarischen Fußballtrainern der 1920er bis 1960er Jahre, tschechoslowakischen Eishockeyflüchtlingen im Kalten Krieg sowie osteuropäischen Migrantenvereinen in der Schweiz. This article discusses the field of sport and migration in East European sport history from two perspectives: Migration of sportspersons and sport of migrants. Main topics include cultural transfer of British sports to Eastern Europe through elitist migration, migration of professional athletes since the interwar period, flight, displacement and deportation of sportspersons, migrant sport organisations, and the rise of athletes with migrant background into elite sports. The general outline of these aspects is followed by three case studies on Hungarian Jewish football coaches from the 1920s to the 1960s, Czechoslovak ice hockey refugees during the Cold War and East European migrant clubs in Switzerland.

Introduction Vertigo, dizziness and balance problems (VDB) as well as osteoarthritis (OA) are among the health conditions with the greatest impact on mobility and social participation in older adults. Patients with VDB and OA were shown to benefit from specialised care such as vestibular rehabilitation therapy or joint replacement. However, these effects are not permanent and seem to disappear over time. One important reason might be a decreasing adherence to therapy recommendations. Findings from behavioural economics (BE) can help to shed light on individual effects on adherence behaviour and long-term outcomes of VDB and OA. Objective Based on insights from BE concepts (ie, self-efficacy, intention, and time and risk preferences), MobilE-TRA 2 investigates the determinants of functioning and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) 3 and 12 months after discharge from total hip replacement (THR)/total knee replacement (TKR) in patients with OA and after interdisciplinary evaluation for VDB. Methods and analysis MobilE-TRA 2 is a longitudinal observational study with data collection in two specialised tertiary care centres at the university hospital in Munich, Germany between 2020 and 2023. Patients aged 60 and older presenting for their first THR/TKR or interdisciplinary evaluation of VDB at Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) hospital will be recruited for study participation. Three and twelve months after baseline assessment, all patients will receive a follow-up questionnaire. Mixed-effect regression models will be used to examine BE concepts as determinants of adherence, HRQoL and functioning. Ethics and dissemination The study was approved by the ethics committee at the medical faculty of the LMU Munich under the number 20-727. Results will be published in scientific, peer-reviewed journals and at national and international conferences. Ecotropic virus integration site 1 (EVI1), whose overexpression characterizes a particularly aggressive subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), enhanced anti-leukemic activities of all-trans retinoic acid (atRA) in cell lines and patient samples. However, the drivers of leukemia formation, therapy resistance, and relapse are leukemic stem cells (LSCs), whose properties were hardly reflected in these experimental setups. The present study was designed to address the effects of, and interactions between, EVI1 and retinoids in AML LSCs. We report that Evi1 reduced the maturation of leukemic cells and promoted the abundance, quiescence, and activity of LSCs in an MLL-AF9-driven mouse model of AML. atRA further augmented these effects in an Evi1 dependent manner. EVI1 also strongly enhanced atRA regulated gene transcription in LSC enriched cells. One of their jointly regulated targets, Notch4, was an important mediator of their effects on leukemic stemness. In vitro exposure of leukemic cells to a pan-RAR antagonist caused effects opposite to those of atRA. In vivo antagonist treatment delayed leukemogenesis and reduced LSC abundance, quiescence, and activity in Evi1high AML. Key results were confirmed in human myeloid cell lines retaining some stem cell characteristics as well as in primary human AML samples. In summary, our study is the first to report the importance of EVI1 for key properties of AML LSCs. Furthermore, it shows that atRA enhances, and a pan-RAR antagonist counteracts, the effects of EVI1 on AML stemness, thus raising the possibility of using RAR antagonists in the therapy of EVI1high AML.

We report on the preparation and characterization of epitaxial ACuO2 (A = Sr, Ca, Ba) thin films and multilayers with the so- called infinite layer (IL) structure, by rf magnetron sputtering. Films and multilayers without Ba have a remarkable crystal quality, whereas those containing this large ion are often multiphased and unstable. In spite of the excellent crystalline quality of these samples, obtaining thin films having both IL structure and displaying superconducting properties has not succeeded; our pure IL samples display semiconducting behavior, and the different procedures tried in order to dope them—annealings, introduction of disorder or cation vacancies, artificial layering—have failed. These results support that the pure IL structure ACuO2 (A = alkaline earth) cannot superconduct

We have used the Fermilab 30-in. bubble-chamber-hybrid spectrometer to study neutral-strange-particle production in the interactions of 200-GeV/c protons and + and K+ mesons with nuclei of gold, silver, and magnesium. Average multiplicities and inclusive cross sections for K0 and are measured, and a power law is found to give a good description of their A dependence. The exponent characterizing the A dependence is consistent with being the same for K0 and production, and also the same for proton and + beams. Average K0 and multiplicities, as well as their ratio, have been measured as functions of the numbers of projectile collisions p and secondary collisions s in the nucleus, and indicate that rescattering contributes significantly to enhancement of production but not to K0 production. The properties of events with multiple K0's or also corroborate this conclusion. K0 rapidities are in the central region and decrease gently with increasing p, while rapidities are in the target-fragmentation region and are independent of p. K0 and multiplicities increase with the rapidity loss of the projectile, but their rapidities do not.

By determining the magnetic-field profiles throughout these structures, we show that a finite superfluid density can be induced in otherwise semiconducting PrBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta) layers when juxtaposed to YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta) "electrodes," while the intrinsic antiferromagnetic order is unaffected., QC 20120206

An analysis of 3587 tau(+) + pi(-) + pi(+) + Pi(+) decay events is presented. These events were found in an area scanning of an emulsion stack of 600 micron Ilford G5 emulsion pellicles exposed to a 300 MeV/c separated K(+) beam at the Bevatron of the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory. The pion energy spectra are compared to the predictions of linear matrix element theory the pion pole model, and the s-wave resonance model., Submitted for publication to The Physical Review, Jun 1965. The energy spectrum of the decay pions in tau+ decay was obtained from a sample of 17,898 events. It is found that the spectrum is adequately fitted by a squared matrix element of linear form. No evidence for CP noninvariance is found for tau+ decays. A significant violation of the delta I = 1/2 rule is observed for K+ yields 3 pion decays. Sites were located in the United Kingdom (UK), the Netherlands (NL), Denmark ( two sites, DK-B and DK-M), Hungary (HU), Spain (SP) and Italy (IT). All field sites consisted of untreated control plots, plots where the plant canopy air is artificially warmed during night time hours, and plots where rainfall is excluded from the plots at least during the plants growing season. Standing aboveground plant biomass (grams biomass per square metre) was measured in two undisturbed areas within the plots using the pin-point method (UK, DK-M, DK-B), or along a transect (IT, SP, HU, NL). Aboveground net primary productivity was calculated from measurements of standing aboveground plant biomass estimates and litterfall measurements. Soil respiration was measured in pre-installed opaque soil collars bi-weekly, monthly, or in measurement campaigns (SP only).

This data consist of measurements on soil microbial enzyme activity of six hydrolytic enzymes and related soil measurements from the experimental field sites at Clocaenog forest and Peaknaze. Samples were collected in 2012 from plots subjected to experimental drought and warming as well as untreated control plots. Soil cores were taken for the topsoil 0 to10 centimetres. Enzymes were measured at the climate change field site Climoor that is located in Clocaenog forest, North East Wales and the Peaknaze field site located in the Peak District. The experimental field sites each consist of three untreated control plots, three plots where the plant canopy air is artificially warmed during night time hours, and three plots where rainfall is excluded from the plots at least during the plants growing season (March to September). Six hydrolytic soil microbial enzymes and one oxidase were extracted from the topsoil to test the effect of these enzymes that are involved in carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycling, under the imposed long-term climate change treatments. The hydrolytic enzymes were assayed using 4-methylumbelliferone (MUF) or 7-amino-4-methyl coumarin (AMC) linked-substrates, whereas the oxidase was extracted in pure water. All enzyme extracts were measured colorimetrically. The Clocaenog and Peaknaze field experiments intend to answer questions regarding the effects of warming and drought on ecosystem processes. Plot level microbial related measurements are important to investigate ecosystem carbon dynamics and changes in the soil carbon under the imposed climatic treatments. Measurements were undertaken by trained members of staff at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology.
