Both new courses were approved and added to GST major curriculum in May 2019. VI. Rationale for the Proposal: GEOG4001 Web GIS: In recent years, Web GIS has been developing and extending beyond the scope of desktop Geographic Information Systems (GIS) far beyond anyone could have imaged. Web GIS allows users to deliver authoritative maps, analytics, and geographic information to a wider audience, using lightweight clients and custom apps on web and smart devices. Students enrolled in the GIS Crime Mapping & Analysis minor program would be better prepared for the online mapping era with this new course. GEOG4003 GIS II: The new-generation 64-bit GIS software of ArcGIS Pro has been emerging and extending the reach of desktop GIS. ArcGIS Pro has an intuitive user interface for creating, using and analyzing professional 2D and 3D maps. Graduates who know how to work with ArcGIS Pro are in high demand today, including in the field of public safety. In the near future, ArcGIS Pro may probably replace desktop GIS and become the prevailing software in the GIS industry. VII. Proposal Summary (If applicable, highlight changes from previous policy or practice.): * We ask to add an alternative prerequisite course of CJ1000 Intro to Criminal Justice for the GEOG/CJ3004 GIS for Criminal Justice course. VI. Rationale for the Proposal: Currently GEOG2400 Intro to Geospatial Technology is the prerequisite for the interdisciplinary course GEOG/CJ3004 GIS for Criminal Justice. Since students enrolled in GEOG/CJ3004 are either CJ majors or GEOG majors, it has become necessary to prepare both student groups for the course. Having either CJ1000 Intro to Criminal Justice or GEOG2400 Intro to Geospatial Technology as the prerequisite for the upper level interdisciplinary course would allow both student groups enroll to the course. Both CJ1000 Intro to Criminal Justice and GEOG2400 Intro to Geospatial Technology are part of the core requirements of the GIS Crime Mapping & Analysis Minor curriculum. Adding the alternative prerequisite will not modify the course load for students minoring in the program. It would only help guiding the students taking courses at a preferred sequence. Meanwhile GEOG/CJ3004 is not restricted to GIS/CJ Minors only. CJ majors and GEOG majors not enrolled in the Minor Program can also take the course towards graduation. The proposed alternate prerequisite would allow these students have access to this class. VII.
