Housing instability is considered a significant life stressor and preemptive screening should be applied to identify those at risk for homelessness as early as possible so that they can be targeted for specialized care. We developed models to classify patient outcomes for an established VA Homelessness Screening Clinical Reminder (HSCR), which identifies housing instability, in the two months prior to its administration. Logistic Regression and Random Forest models were fit to classify responses using the last 18 months of document activity. We measure concentration of risk across stratifications of predicted probability and observe an enriched likelihood of finding confirmed false negative responses from veterans with diagnosed housing instability. Positive responses were 34 times more likely to be detected within the top 1 % of patients predicted at risk than from those randomly selected. There is a 1 in 4 chance of detecting false negatives within the top 1 % of predicted risk. Machine learning methods can classify between episodes of housing instability using a data-driven approach that does not rely on variables curated from domain experts. This method has the potential to improve clinicians ability to identify veterans who are experiencing housing instability but are not captured by HSCR.

Chemical recycling of polyurethane (PU) waste is essential to displace the need for virgin polyol production and enable sustainable PU production. Currently, less than 20% of PU waste is downcycled through rebinding to lower value products than the original PU. Chemical recycling of PU waste often requires significant input of materials like solvents and slow reaction rates. Here, we report the fast (<10 min) and solvent-free acidolysis of a model toluene diisocyanate (TDI)-based flexible polyurethane foam (PUF) at <200 °C using maleic acid (MA) with a recovery of recycled polyol (repolyol) in 95% isolated yield. After workup (hydrolysis of repolyl ester and separations), the repolyol exhibits favorable physical properties that are comparable to the virgin polyol; these include 54.1 mg KOH/g OH number and 624 cSt viscosity. Overall, 80% by weight of the input PUF is isolated into two clean-cut fractions containing the repolyol and toluene diamine (TDA). Finally, end-of-life (EOL) mattress PUF waste is recycled successfully with high recovery of repolyol using MA acidolysis. The solvent-free and fast acidolysis with MA demonstrated in this work with both model and EOL PUF provides a potential pathway for sustainable and closed-loop PU production.

Sexual violence increases the risk of adverse health outcomes among female sex workers (FSWs). Using data from the 2015 national bio-behavioral survey, we explored the experience of sexual violence and its associated factors among Iranian FSWs. Lifetime and recent sexual violence were reported by 40.1% and 16.9%, respectively. History of substance use, ever engaging in anal sex, engaging in group sex within the last year, a high number of clients, recent unstable housing, and incarceration increased the likelihood of experiencing recent sexual violence. These findings underscore the need for community-empowerment and policy-level interventions to address violence among FSWs in Iran.

BACKGROUND: People who inject drugs (PWID) are at high risk for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and its complications in many countries, including Iran. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the effect of a community-based HCV model of care on HCV testing and treatment initiation among PWID in Kerman, Iran. METHODS: This study is part of the Rostam study and is a non-randomized trial evaluating the effect of on-site HCV- antibody rapid testing, venipuncture for HCV RNA testing, and treatment eligibility assessment on HCV testing and treatment initiation among PWID. Recruitment, interviews, and HCV screening, diagnosis, and treatment were all conducted at a community-based drop-in center (DIC) serving PWID clients. RESULTS: A total of 171 PWID (median age of 39 years and 89.5% male) were recruited between July 2018 and May 2019. Of 62 individuals who were HCV antibody positive, 47 (75.8%) were HCV RNA positive. Of RNA-positive individuals, 36 (76.6%) returned for treatment eligibility assessment. Of all the 36 participants eligible for treatment, 34 (94.4%) initiated HCV antiviral therapy. A sustained virologic response at 12 weeks post-treatment was 76.5% (26/34) in the intention-to-treat (ITT group) analysis and 100% (23/23) in the per-protocol (PP group) analysis. CONCLUSION: Our integrated on-site community-based HCV care model within a DIC setting suggested that HCV care including HCV testing and treatment uptake can be successfully delivered outside of hospitals or specialized clinics; a model which is more likely to reach PWID and can provide significant progress towards HCV elimination among this population.

Data mining approaches have proven to be successful in improving learners’ interaction with educational computer games. Despite the potential of predictive modelling in providing timely adaptive learning and gameplay experience, there is a lack of research on the early prediction of learners’ performance in educational games. In this research, we propose an early predictive modelling approach, called GameEPM, to estimate learners’ final scores in an educational game for promoting computational thinking. Specifically, the GameEPM approach models the sequence of learners’ actions and then uses a limited sequence of the actions to predict the final score of the game for each learner. The findings from our initial trials show that our approach can accurately and robustly estimate the learners’ performance at the early stages of the game. Using less than 50% of learners’ action sequences, the cross-validated deep learning model achieves a squared correlation higher than 0.8 with a relative error of less than 8%, outperforming a range of regression models like linear regression, random forest, neural networks, and support vector machines. An additional experiment showed that the validated deep learning model can also achieve high performance while tested on an independent game dataset, showing its applicability and robustness in real-world cases. Comparing the results with traditional machine learning methods revealed that, in the validation and application phases, up to 0.30 and 0.35 R2 gain is achieved in favor of the deep learning model, respectively. Finally, we found that while the lengths of action sequences influence the predictive power of the traditional machine learning methods, this effect is not substantial in the deep learning model

The aim of this study is to model a relationship between the amount of the suspended sediment load by considering the physiographic characteristics of the Lake Urmia watershed. For this purpose, the information from different stations was used to develop the sediment estimation models. Ten physiographic characteristics were used as input parameters in the simulation process. The M5 model tree was used to select the most important features. The results showed that the four factors of annual discharge, average annual rainfall, form factor and the average elevation of the watershed were the most important parameters, and the multilinear regression models were created based on these factors. Furthermore, it was concluded that the annual discharge was the most influential parameter. Then, the stations were divided into two homogeneous classes based on the selected features. To improve the efficiency of the M5 model, the non-stationary rainfall and runoff signals were decomposed into sub-signals by the wavelet transform (WT). By this technique, the available trends of the main raw signals were eliminated. Finally, the models were developed by multilinear regressions. The model using all four factors had the best performance (DC = 0.93, RMSE = 0.03, ME = 0.05 and RE = 0.15).

This paper presents the development of a real-time T&D co-simulation testbed for simulating large grids under high DER penetration. By integrating bulk power system, distribution feeders, and distributed energy resources (DER) models into one simulation environment, the testbed enables the performance analysis and validation of DER management systems (DERMS) algorithms. This work proposes a co-simulation timestep sequence for the cross-platform data exchange and time synchronization, with a communication framework based on MQTT communication protocol. The proposed strategy is tested with a 5,000 buses model of part of the North American bulk power system (BPS) and a 9,500 nodes distribution feeder model obtained from a local utility. Simulations are carried out to demonstrate the capability of the proposed framework to propagate events between the transmission and distribution models. This paper presents a case study for utilizing behind-the-meter (BTM) distributed energy resources (DERs) to provide grid services when controlled by a DER Management System (DERMS). The testbed consists of a 5,000 buses transient-stability (TS) real-time (RT) model, two 9,500 buses distribution feeders from local utilities modeled in a distribution system simulator (DSS), and hundreds of DERs. MQTT communication protocol is utilized to interface the models in RT. Two main studies are carried. In the first, it is found that DERs with frequency-watt droop response can help maintaining stability in the future NYS grid in which thermal synchronous generators have been substituted by renewable energy resources. The separate-universe approach gives an intuitive way to understand the evolution of cosmological perturbations in the long-wavelength limit. It uses solutions of the spatially-homogeneous equations of motion to model the evolution of the inhomogeneous universe on large scales. We show that the separate-universe approach fails on a finite range of super-Hubble scales at a sudden transition from slow roll to ultra-slow roll during inflation in the very early universe. Such transitions are a feature of inflation models giving a large enhancement in the primordial power spectrum on small scales, necessary to produce primordial black holes after inflation. We show that the separate-universe approach still works in a piece-wise fashion, before and after the transition, but spatial gradients on finite scales require a discontinuity in the homogeneous solution at the transition. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) have shown to be amongst the most important artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in educational applications, providing adaptive educational services. However, their educational potential is limited in practice due to three major challenges: i) difficulty in incorporating symbolic educational knowledge (e.g., causal relationships, and practitioners' knowledge) in their development, ii) learning and reflecting biases, and iii) lack of interpretability. Given the high-risk nature of education, the integration of educational knowledge into ANNs becomes crucial for developing AI applications that adhere to essential educational restrictions, and provide interpretability over the predictions. This research argues that the neural-symbolic family of AI has the potential to address the named challenges. To this end, it adapts a neural-symbolic AI framework and accordingly develops an approach called NSAI, that injects and extracts educational knowledge into and from deep neural networks, for modelling learners computational thinking. Our findings reveal that the NSAI approach has better generalizability compared to deep neural networks trained merely on training data, as well as training data augmented by SMOTE and autoencoder methods. More importantly, unlike the other models, the NSAI approach prioritises robust representations that capture causal relationships between input features and output labels, ensuring safety in learning to avoid spurious correlations and control biases in training data. Furthermore, the NSAI approach enables the extraction of rules from the learned network, facilitating interpretation and reasoning about the path to predictions, as well as refining the initial educational knowledge. These findings imply that neural-symbolic AI can overcome the limitations of ANNs in education, enabling trustworthy and interpretable applications.

This paper proposes a centralized multi-plant reactive power and voltage controller to support voltage control in the interconnected onshore power system. This controller utilizes a hierarchical control structure consisting of a master controller and multiple slave controllers. To validate the proposed method, a realistic planning case of the New York State grid is created for the year 2035, in which nearly 9,500 MW AC or DC connected offshore wind resources are modeled. The performance of the proposed controller is analyzed in the large-scale model under three realistic disturbance scenarios: generator loss, load ramps, and load steps. The yeast cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA) is a ubiquitous serine-threonine kinase, encompassing three catalytic (Tpk1-3) and one regulatory (Bcy1) subunits. Evidence suggests PKA involvement in DNA damage checkpoint response, but how DNA repair pathways are regulated by PKA subunits remains inconclusive. Here, we report that deleting the tpk1 catalytic subunit reduces non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) efficiency, whereas tpk2-3 and bcy1 deletion does not. Epistatic analyses revealed that tpk1, as well as the DNA damage checkpoint kinase (dun1) and NHEJ factor (nej1), co-function in the same pathway, and parallel to the NHEJ factor yku80. Chromatin immunoprecipitation and resection data suggest that tpk1 deletion influences repair protein recruitments and DNA resection. Further, we show that Tpk1 phosphorylation of Nej1 at S298 (a Dun1 phosphosite) is indispensable for NHEJ repair and nuclear targeting of Nej1 and its binding partner Lif1. In mammalian cells, loss of PRKACB (human homolog of Tpk1) also reduced NHEJ efficiency, and similarly, PRKACB was found to phosphorylate XLF (a Nej1 human homolog) at S263, a corresponding residue of the yeast Nej1 S298. Together, our results uncover a new and conserved mechanism for Tpk1 and PRKACB in phosphorylating Nej1 (or XLF), which is critically required for NHEJ repair.

Suicide among Veterans experiencing or at risk for homelessness remains a significant public health concern. Conducting research to understand and meet the needs of this at-risk population remains challenging due to myriad factors (e.g., clinical complexity including multimorbidity, difficulty monitoring risk across systems). To address this challenge, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) convened the Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D) Suicide Prevention in Veterans Experiencing Homelessness: Research and Practice Development meeting, bringing together subject-matter experts in the fields of homelessness and suicide prevention, both from within and outside of VA. During the meeting, attendees identified 10 potential research priorities at the intersection of suicide prevention and homelessness. After the meeting, Delphi methodology was used to achieve consensus on the relative importance of the identified research domains. Through this iterative Delphi process, agreement was reached regarding the need to increase understanding of barriers and facilitators to suicide risk assessment and emergency intervention for Veterans experiencing homelessness by examining the perspectives of both Veterans and healthcare providers. Elucidating the complex relationships between risk periods, subgroups, suicide means, and drivers of suicide among Veterans experiencing homelessness was also considered a top priority. This article documents the Delphi process and provides a research agenda for researchers, funding agencies, and policymakers to prioritize the most relevant and potentially impactful research domains aimed at preventing suicide among Veterans experiencing or at risk for homelessness.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: In moving towards the elimination of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among people living with HIV, understanding HCV transmission patterns may provide insights to guide and evaluate interventions. In this study, we evaluated patterns of, and factors associated with HCV phylogenetic clustering among people living with HIV/HCV co-infection in Australia in the direct-acting antiviral era. METHODS: HCV RNA was extracted from dried blood spot (DBS) samples collected between 2014 and 2018 in the CEASE cohort study. The HCV Core-E2 region was amplified by a polymerase chain reaction and Sanger sequenced. Maximum likelihood phylogenetic trees (1000 bootstrap replicates) were used to identify patterns of clustering (3% genetic distance threshold). Mixed-effects logistic regression was used to determine correlates of phylogenetic clustering. Factors assessed were sexual risk behavior, education, injecting drug use, housing, employment, HIV viral load, age, sex, and sexuality. RESULTS: Phylogenetic trees were reconstructed for HCV subtype 1a (n = 139) and 3a (n = 63) sequences, with 29% (58/202) in a pair or cluster. Overall (n = 202), phylogenetic clustering was positively associated with younger age (under 40; adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.52, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.20-5.29), and among gay and bisexual men (n = 168), was positively associated with younger age (aOR 2.61, 95% CI 1.10-6.19), higher education (aOR 2.58, 95% CI 1.09-6.13), and reporting high-risk sexual behavior (aOR 3.94, 95% CI 1.31-11.84). During follow-up, five reinfections were observed, but none were in phylogenetic clusters. CONCLUSION: This study found a high proportion of phylogenetic relatedness, predominantly among younger people and gay and bisexual men reporting high-risk sexual behavior. BackgroundIncarcerated people are at an increased risk of contracting HIV and transmitting it to the community post-release. In Iran, HIV epidemics inside prisons were first detected in the early 1990s. We assessed the HIV prevalence and its correlates, as well as the continuum of care among incarcerated people in Iran from 2010 to 2017.MethodsWe used data collected in three national bio-behavioral surveillance surveys among incarcerated individuals in 2010 (n = 4,536), 2013 (n = 5,490), and 2017 (n = 5,785) through a multistage cluster sampling approach. HIV was tested by the ELISA method in 2010 and 2013 surveys and rapid tests in 2017. Data on demographic characteristics, risky behaviors, HIV testing, and treatment were collected via face-to-face interviews. HIV prevalence estimates along with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were reported. Using data from the 2017 round, multivariable logistic regression models were built to assess the correlates of HIV sero-positivity and conduct HIV cascade of care analysis.ResultsThe HIV prevalence was 2.1% (95% CI: 1.2%, 3.6%) in 2010, 1.7% (95% CI: 1.3%, 2.1%) in 2013, and 0.8% (95% CI: 0.6%, 1.1%) in 2017 (trend P value < 0.001). Among people with a history of injection drug use, HIV prevalence was 8.1% (95% CI: 4.6%, 13.8%) in 2010, 6.3% (95% CI: 4.8%, 8.3%) in 2013, and 3.9% (95% CI: 2.7%, 5.7%) in 2017. In 2017, 64% (32 out of 50) of incarcerated people living with HIV were aware of their HIV status, of whom 45% (9 out of 20) were on antiretroviral therapy, and of whom 44% (4 out of 9) were virally suppressed (< 1000 copies/ml).ConclusionsWhile HIV prevalence has decreased among incarcerated people in Iran, their engagement in the HIV continuum of care is suboptimal. Further investments in programs to link incarcerated people to HIV care and retain them in treatment are warranted.

We present a non-perturbative method for calculating the abundance of primordial black holes given an arbitrary one-point probability distribution function for the primordial curvature perturbation, $P(\zeta)$. A non-perturbative method is essential when considering non-Gaussianities that cannot be treated using a conventional perturbative expansion. To determine the full statistics of the density field, we relate $\zeta$ to a Gaussian field by equating the cumulative distribution functions. We consider two examples: a specific local-type non-Gaussian distribution arising from ultra slow roll models, and a general piecewise model for $P(\zeta)$ with an exponential tail. We demonstrate that the enhancement of primordial black hole formation is due to the intermediate regime, rather than the far tail. We explore the bounds that can be placed on interactions between cold dark matter and vacuum energy, with equation of state $w=-1$, using state-of-the-art cosmological observations. We consider linear perturbations about a simple background model where the energy transfer per Hubble time, $Q/H$, is a general linear function of the dark matter density, $\rho_c$, and vacuum energy, $V$. We explain the parameter degeneracies found when fitting cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies alone, and show how these are broken by the addition of supernovae data, baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) and redshift-space distortions (RSD). In particular, care must be taken when relating redshift-space distortions to the growth of structure in the presence of non-zero energy transfer. Interactions in the dark sector can alleviate the tensions between low-redshift measurements of the Hubble parameter, $H_0$, or weak-lensing, $S_8$, and the values inferred from CMB data. However these tensions return when we include constraints from supernova and BAO-RSD datasets. In the general linear interaction model we show that, while it is possible to relax both the Hubble and weak-lensing tensions simultaneously, the reduction in these tensions is modest (reduced to less slightly than $4\sigma$ and $2\sigma$ respectively)., Comment: 37 pages, 12 figures, v2: Version accepted for publication

We show how importance sampling can be used to reconstruct the statistics of rare cosmological fluctuations in stochastic inflation. We have developed a publicly available package, PyFPT, that solves the first-passage time problem of generic one-dimensional Langevin processes. In the stochastic-$\delta N$ formalism, these are related to the curvature perturbation at the end of inflation. We apply this method to quadratic inflation, where the existence of semi-analytical results allows us to benchmark our approach. We find excellent agreement within the estimated statistical error, both in the drift- and diffusion-dominated regimes. The computation takes at most a few hours on a single CPU, and can reach probability values corresponding to less than one Hubble patch per observable universe at the end of inflation. With direct sampling, this would take more than the age of the universe to simulate even with the best current supercomputers. As an application, we study how the presence of large-field boundaries might affect the tail of the probability distribution. Cosmological $\alpha$-attractors stand out as particularly compelling models to describe inflation in the very early universe, naturally meeting tight observational bounds from cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments. We investigate $\alpha$-attractor potentials in the presence of an inflection point, leading to enhanced curvature perturbations on small scales. We study both single- and multi-field models, driven by scalar fields living on a hyperbolic field space. In the single-field case, ultra-slow-roll dynamics at the inflection point is responsible for the growth of the power spectrum, while in the multi-field set-up we study the effect of geometrical destabilisation and non geodesic motion in field space. The two mechanisms can in principle be distinguished through the spectral shape of the resulting scalar power spectrum on small scales. These enhanced scalar perturbations can lead to primordial black hole (PBH) production and second-order gravitational wave (GW) generation. Due to the existence of universal predictions in $\alpha$-attractors, consistency with current CMB constraints on the large-scale spectral tilt implies that PBHs can only be produced with masses smaller than $10^8\,\text{g}$ and are accompanied by ultra-high frequency GWs, with a peak expected to be at frequencies of order $10\,\text{kHz}$ or above., Comment: 63 pages, 42 figures, 3 tables. BACKGROUND:: Suicidal self-directed violence among Veterans experiencing homelessness remains a significant public health concern. To prevent suicide in this population, concerted clinical and research efforts remain necessary. OBJECTIVE:: This paper serves as a consensus statement by the recently-formed Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Suicide Prevention among Veterans Experiencing Homelessness Workgroup. We provide a brief overview of current initiatives to prevent suicide among Veterans experiencing homelessness. We also discuss methods of studying this complex subset of the Veteran population, as well as future research endeavors necessary to inform gaps in understanding. CONCLUSIONS:: Veterans experiencing homelessness are a complex subset of the Veteran population whose risk for suicide may be exacerbated by a number of factors (e.g., multimorbidity, rurality). While the VA has implemented a number of initiatives to prevent suicide among Veterans experiencing homelessness (e.g., universal screening for suicidal ideation and recent suicide attempts, Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training), there is a continued need to understand how best to tailor these initiatives to Veterans experiencing homelessness. Moreover, because Veterans experiencing homelessness often access a number of services within the community (e.g., community-based clinics, homeless shelters), collaboration between the VA and community is necessary.

We consider the effect of quantum diffusion on the dynamics of the inflaton during a period of ultra-slow-roll inflation. We extend the stochastic-$\delta\mathcal{N}$ formalism to the ultra-slow-roll regime and show how this system can be solved analytically in both the classical-drift and quantum-diffusion dominated limits. By deriving the characteristic function, we are able to construct the full probability distribution function for the primordial density field. In the diffusion-dominated limit, we recover an exponential tail for the probability distribution, as found previously in slow-roll inflation. To complement these analytical techniques, we present numerical results found both by very large numbers of simulations of the Langevin equations, and through a new, more efficient approach based on iterative Volterra integrals. We propose a novel hierarchical frequency and voltage control design for multi-area power system integrated with inverter-based resources (IBRs). The design is based on the idea of prioritizing the use of IBRs over conventional generator-based control in compensating for sudden and unpredicted changes in loads and generations, and thereby mitigate any undesired dynamics in the frequency or the voltage by exploiting their fast actuation time constants. A new sequential optimization problem, referred to as Area Prioritized Power Flow (APPF), is formulated to model this prioritization. It is shown that compared to conventional power flow APPF not only leads to a fairer balance between the dispatch of active and reactive power from the IBRs and the synchronous generators, but also limits the impact of any contingency from spreading out beyond its respective control area, thereby guaranteeing a better collective dynamic performance of the grid. This improvement, however, comes at the cost of adding an extra layer of communication needed for executing APPF in a hierarchical way. Results are validated using simulations of a 9-machine, 6-IBR, 33-bus, 3-area power system model, illustrating how APPF can mitigate a disturbance faster and more efficiently by prioritizing the use of local area-resources.

BackgroundGiven the young structure of Iran's population and the fact that extramarital sexual relationships are both prohibited by legislation and shunned by society and religion, examining condom use practices among Iranian youth is highly important. The aim of this study was to explore condom use and its correlates among Iranian young adults.MethodsIn a sample of 3,045 individuals aged 19-29 who were recruited from a nation-wide study, we analyzed data from 633 participants who reported a history of extramarital sex. Subjects were asked about their condom use practices during their last penetrative sex. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire where the respondents completed the survey on their own and passed it to trained gender-matched interviewers. Multivariable regression models were constructed to report adjusted odds ratios (AOR) along with 95% CI.ResultsOf the 633 participants, 222 (35.1%) reported condom use at last sex. Men reported significantly higher condom use than women (38.5% vs. 25.7%). Having a stable job (AOR = 1.86, 95% CI: 1.01, 3.43), higher knowledge of condom use (AOR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.03, 2.37) and sexual transmission of HIV (AOR = 1.83, 95% CI: 1.18, 2.85) were positively associated with condom use at last sex. Conversely, experience of sex under the influence of substances (AOR = 0.66, 95% CI: 0.45, 0.94) was significantly associated with reduced odds of condom use at last sex.ConclusionThis study shows that only one out of every three young adults reported using condoms at last sex. While educational programs are helpful, multi-sectoral approaches (eg, individual-, community-, and structural-level interventions) are required to change sexual behaviours towards safe sex practices and reinforce negotiating condom use among youth.

We investigate small-scale signatures of the inflationary particle content. We consider the case of a light spin-2 particle sourcing primordial gravitational waves by employing an effective field theory description. Upon allowing time-dependent sound speeds for the helicity modes, this setup delivers a blue tensor spectrum detectable, for example, by upcoming laser interferometers. Our focus is on the tensor non-Gaussianities that ensue from this field configuration. After characterising the bispectrum amplitude and shape-function at CMB scales, we move on to smaller scales where anisotropies induced in the tensor power spectrum by long-short modes coupling become the key handle on (squeezed) primordial non-Gaussianities. Lithium Chloride (LiCl) toxicity, mode of action and cellular responses have been the subject of active investigations over the past decades. In yeast, LiCl treatment is reported to reduce the activity and alters the expression of PGM2, a gene that encodes a phosphoglucomutase involved in sugar metabolism. Reduced activity of phosphoglucomutase in the presence of galactose causes an accumulation of intermediate metabolites of galactose metabolism leading to a number of phenotypes including growth defect. In the current study, we identify two understudied yeast genes, YTA6 and YPR096C that when deleted, cell sensitivity to LiCl is increased when galactose is used as a carbon source. The 5'-UTR of PGM2 mRNA is structured. Using this region, we show that YTA6 and YPR096C influence the translation of PGM2 mRNA.

For decades, lithium chloride (LiCl) has been used as a treatment option for those living with bipolar disorder (BD). As a result, many studies have been conducted to examine its mode of action, toxicity, and downstream cellular responses. We know that LiCl is able to affect cell signaling and signaling transduction pathways through protein kinase C and glycogen synthase kinase-3, which are considered to be important in regulating gene expression at the translational level. However, additional downstream effects require further investigation, especially in translation pathway. In yeast, LiCl treatment affects the expression, and thus the activity, of PGM2, a phosphoglucomutase involved in sugar metabolism. Inhibition of PGM2 leads to the accumulation of intermediate metabolites of galactose metabolism causing cell toxicity. However, it is not fully understood how LiCl affects gene expression in this matter. In this study, we identified three genes, NAM7, PUS2, and RPL27B, which increase yeast LiCl sensitivity when deleted. We further demonstrate that NAM7, PUS2, and RPL27B influence translation and exert their activity through the 5'-Untranslated region (5'-UTR) of PGM2 mRNA in yeast.

Non-Newtonian fluids can develop banded velocity and concentration profiles under strong shear deformations, which is known as shear banding. To study shear banding in semidilute entangled polymer solutions, we have developed a new thermodynamically consistent two-fluid model using the generalized bracket approach of non-equilibrium thermodynamics. The stress- induced migration is responsible for the shear band formation in our model. F-18-FIBT, 2-(p-Methylaminophenyl)-7-(2-[F-18]fluoroethoxy)imidazo-[2,1-b]benzothiazole, is a new selective PET tracer under clinical investigation to specifically image beta-amyloid depositions (A beta) in humans in-vivo that binds to A beta with excellent affinity (K(d)0.7 +/- 0.2) and high selectivity over tau and alpha-synuclein aggregates (Ki > 1000 nM). We aimed to characterize(18)F-FIBT in a series of patients with different clinical-pathophysiological phenotypes and to compare its binding characteristics to the reference compound PiB. Six patients (mild late-onset and moderate early-onset AD dementia, mild cognitive impairment due to AD, intermediate likelihood, mild behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia, subjective memory impairment without evidence of neurodegeneration, and mild dementia due to Posterior Cortical Atrophy) underwent PET imaging with(18)F-FIBT on PET/MR. With the guidance of MRI, PET images were corrected for partial volume effect, time-activity curves (TACs) of regions of interest (ROIs) were extracted, and non-displaceable binding potentials (BPnd), standardized uptake value ratios (SUVR), and distribution volume ratio (DVR) were compared. Specific binding was detected in the cases with evidence of the AD pathophysiological process visualized in images of BPnd, DVR and SUVR, consistently with patterns of different tracers in previous studies. SUVR showed the highest correlation with clinical severity. The previous preclinical characterization and the results of this case series suggest the clinical usefulness of FIBT as a selective and highly affine next-generation(18)F-labeled tracer for amyloid-imaging with excellent pharmacokinetics in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. The results compare well to the gold standard PiB and hence support further investigation in larger human samples.

BackgroundThe lack of robust estimates of HIV/HCV incidence among people who inject drugs (PWID) in Iran calls for well-designed prospective cohort studies. Successful recruitment and follow-up of PWID in cohort studies may require formative assessment of barriers PWID are faced with in participation and retention in cohort studies and factors they think may facilitate their engagement in such studies. Using a focus group discussion (FGD) format, we conducted a consultation with PWID in southeast Iran to recognize those barriers and motivators.MethodsUsing targeted sampling and through snowball referrals, we recruited PWID (aged≥18, injected in last 6 months) from community-based drop-in centers (DICs), homeless shelters, and through outreach efforts to participate in four FGDs (one women-only). Socio-demographic characteristics, injection behaviors and self-reported HCV/HIV testing and diagnosis history were obtained. Then, a semi-structured FGD guide was applied to explore barriers and motivators to participation and retention in cohort studies among study participants. All FGD sessions were recorded and transcribed verbatim, removing any identifying information. The content of FGDs were analyzed by thematic analysis using an inductive approach.ResultsIn total, 30 individuals (10 women) participated in the study. The median age of participants was 35 (IQR 31-40), with majority (73.3%) reporting injecting drug use within the last month. Only 40.0% reported ever being tested for HCV whereas a larger proportion (63.4%) reported ever being tested for HIV. While the majority were willing to participate in cohort studies, breach of confidentiality, fear of positive test results, perceived required commitment, and marginalization were reported as barriers to participation and retention in such studies. Monetary incentive, the thought of a better life, protection from police interventions and trust between health workers and PWID were addressed as motivators of engagement

We present a phase-space analysis of the qualitative dynamics cosmologies where dark matter exchanges energy with the vacuum component. We find fixed points corresponding to power-law solutions where the different components remain a constant fraction of the total energy density and given an existence condition for any fixed points with nonvanishing energy transfer. For some interaction models we find novel fixed points in the presence of a third noninteracting fluid with constant equation of state, such as radiation, where the interacting vacuum+matter tracks the evolution of the third fluid, analogous to tracker solutions previously found for self-interacting scalar fields. We illustrate the phase-plane behavior, determining the equation of state and stability of the fixed points in the case of a simple linear interaction model, for interacting vacuum and dark matter, including the presence of noninteracting radiation. In the contemporary circumstances where possessing a good and unique idea is not enough to start a successful business, it seems that how to perform and apprehend the idea itself is of great importance; The business model should support the designers/stakeholders to produce accurate information/knowledge about their users to be applied into their business model. The process of designing gamified systems/environment/services is no exception to the mentioned rule that paying attention to the needs of the users can improve the effectiveness of the gamified experience. Emphasizing the need of a user-oriented approach in the gamification process, the present article tries to selectively review the literature on the subject by conducting the interdisciplinary studies [business model and gamification], and in the next step, with the help of an analytical-descriptive approach in the process of the commercialization of gamification, we have introduced a model inspired by 'Gamification 3.0', 'Lean Canvas' and focussing on the 'Gamification Structure MDE', entitled 'Lean Gamification Canvas' to offer an effective way to accommodate user-related 'deep knowledge' and eventually provide the 'gamifiers' [gamification designers] with the sufficient knowledge to streamline their design process to increase gamified synergistic engagement and the successful commercialization of gamify-able ideas., © 2020 IEEE.

With an energy scale that can be as high as $10^{14}\,{\rm GeV}$, inflation may provide a unique probe of high-energy physics. Both scalar and tensor fluctuations generated during this early accelerated expansion contain crucial information about the particle content of the primordial universe. The advent of ground- and space-based interferometers enables us to probe primordial physics at length-scales much smaller than those corresponding to current CMB constraints. One key prediction of single-field slow-roll inflation is a red-tilted gravitational wave spectrum, currently inaccessible at interferometer scales. Interferometers probe directly inflationary physics that deviates from the minimal scenario and in particular additional particle content with sizeable couplings to the inflaton field. We adopt here an effective description for such fields and focus on the case of extra spin-2 fields. We study the stochastic formalism of inflation beyond the usual slow-roll approximation. We verify that the assumptions on which the stochastic formalism relies still hold even far from the slow-roll attractor. This includes demonstrating the validity of the separate universe approach to evolving long-wavelength scalar field perturbations beyond slow roll. We also explain that, in general, there is a gauge correction to the amplitude of the stochastic noise. This is because the amplitude is usually calculated in the spatially-flat gauge, while the number of e-folds is used as the time variable (hence one works in the uniform-$N$ gauge) in the Langevin equations. We show that these corrections vanish in the slow-roll limit, but we also explain how to calculate them in general. We compute them in difference cases, including ultra-slow roll and the Starobinsky model that interpolates between slow roll and ultra-slow roll, and find the corrections to be negligible in practice. Synthetic proteins with high affinity and selectivity for a protein target can be used as research tools, biomarkers, and pharmacological agents, but few methods exist to design such proteins de novo. To this end, the In-Silico Protein Synthesizer (InSiPS) was developed to design synthetic binding proteins (SBPs) that bind pre-determined targets while minimizing off-target interactions. InSiPS is a genetic algorithm that refines a pool of random sequences over hundreds of generations of mutation and selection to produce SBPs with pre-specified binding characteristics. ObjectiveThis study examines the prevalence of drug and poly-drug use and their associated factors among female sex workers (FSW) in Iran.MethodsWe analyzed data from a bio-behavioral surveillance survey of 1347 FSW across 13 major cities in Iran in 2015. Two outcome measures were defined: i) past-month "any drug use", a binary variable defined as none or any; and ii) a three-category past-month "poly-drug use" variable defined as none, only one drug, and more than one drug. Correlates of these two study outcomes were assessed using multivariable logistic regression and multinomial logistic regression, respectively. Adjusted odds ratios (AOR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were reported.ResultsWe found that 24.9% (95% CI: 16.1, 36.4) and 13.5% (95% CI: 8.1, 21.5) of FSW reported past-month any drug use and poly-drug use, respectively. Longer sex work career (AOR 2.44 [95% CI: 1.28, 4.63]), unstable housing (AOR 2.56 [1.17, 5.64]), past-year experience of sexual violence (AOR 1.61 [1.15, 2.27]), and incarceration (AOR 2.02 [1.23, 3.32]) were positively associated with any drug use. Similarly, FSW who were unstably housed (AOR 3.4 [1.06, 10.95]), reported past-year experience of sexual violence (AOR 2.06 [95% CI: 1.24, 3.41]) and incarceration (AOR 2.82 [1.60, 4.97]) were positively associated with past-month poly-drug use.ConclusionDrug use is frequent among Iranian FSW, particularly among those who experienced sexual violence, unstable housing or incarceration. Programs to reduce harms associated with drug and poly-drug use should target FSW as a priority population.

Following the outage of a section of an ADN, the method identifies and forms an optimum cluster of microgrids within the section. The optimum cluster is determined from a set of candidate microgrid clusters by estimating the following metrics: total power loss, voltage deviations, and minimum load shedding. To compute these metrics, equivalent circuits of the clusters are estimated using measured data provided by phasor measurement units (PMUs). Hence, the proposed NC method determines the optimum microgrid cluster without requiring information about the network’s topology and its components. The new education systems is currently living a paradigm shift in pedagogical approaches associated with the innovation in the fundamentals of teaching methods; we are facing an emerging necessity interconnected to learners’ attitudes, experiences and the general structure of digitalization and in our case, gamification. Taking gamification into consideration, it seems we still need to regenerate a sustainable codification of the new knowledge in the field of education; therefore, reconsideration of learning itself is essential which eventually reconstructs the educational programs and adapts new tools and technologies. Gamification and Serious Games draw a new perspective toward the processes and tools to achieve new objectives and methods in order to improve the quality of education. In this paper, we have developed a conceptual model of the mentioned adaptation which crystallizes the flow of the dominant gamification trends and its components in a comprehensive platform with a holistic approach in order to aggregate it into Serious Game definition; the concluded model would reflect an understanding of the role of mechanics and dynamics in the nature of the education. The result is a starting point for the integration of the developed conceptual framework to the establishment of a prospect model/platform of Serious Games in different educational branches.

Looking at the city in parts, the place theory can be recognized in the term of three main axes; good city form, sequential movement, and the mutual impact of every physical and social component. In the place theory the main focus is the understanding process of the cultural aspects and human characteristics of the places. Some areas experience mutual interaction between city and citizens more than others. It is evidently considerable from literature that the most successful examples toward space enhancement (or the transformation of space to place) have come from two approaches: Urban entrepreneurship (urban-preneur) and the small changes which result in big social impact; a sense of the tactical action. These two approaches, Tactical Urbanism as an effective formula for putting good ideas into practice, and “Urban-preneurs” while embed in their socio--ecological environments -cities and towns- to draw influence are about making the place (for citizens) toward a more interacting liv- able one. This report is dedicated to clarifying the question of how street city life might contribute to alternative urban futures focusing on the mentioned two approaches. To this purpose first, we describe the notions of Tactical Urbanism and Urban Entrepreneur main characteristics associated with aforementioned approaches, then the report continues with the concept of Sharing Economy and urban entrepreneurship term, which focuses on recent decades economy approaches. Next, the current scene in two selected case studies, 30Tir Street in Tehran and pedestrian street zone Rasht city in Gilan province has been investigated. As the third part, we have demonstrated a path to open a wide dispensary to some possible tactical “Urban-preneur” in selected case studies.

Moral and ethical concerns seem to emerge in the western societies current development regeneration; among the most visible recent changes of education, it is now inconceivable that the reduction of the educational activities to technical endeavor without ethical consideration is totally absurd. The theorists of the crisis of values , the illustrations of ethical questions, the traditions and to their modern aspirations, the multi-cultural society necessities, etc are issues which must be reconsidered in the sense of pedagogical concerns. Ethical issues, in general, are experiencing a revival in advanced modernized societies characterized by multi-cultural complexities. Education is one the main platforms of the mentioned regenerated interest of the discussion and it has been considered by all the involving actors in the pedagogic world that the process of education is a complex endeavor requiring several communicative competences. The eventual argument about professional ethics would cover the pedagogical relationship, the human qualities requirements in the teaching profession, justice and equity, etc. The mentioned communicative/relational dimensions have been being influenced by a wide range of various actors with whom the instructor/teacher interacts; the interactions which could lead to value-oriented dilemmas and conflicts and challenge the ability of the teachers’ ethical judgment.

The main objective of the current study is to proceed toward the potential of innovative regeneration derived from the local economy in Odlajan (a neighborhood in the historical district of Tehran, 12th municipal). In three steps we have addressed the subject; the first step consists of the concept of urban regeneration and the characteristics of the innovative economy associated with three basic categories (people, business and place). In the next feature, we have examined the objections of that the current status of the selected site; the unsustainable development, reduction of the sense of belonging, and un-sustainable regeneration. The third step, e have tried to define a prospect conceptual model based on innovative urban contribution including aforementioned aspects by short-term measures and long-term strategies.

The relative probability to decay towards different vacua during inflation is studied. The calculation is performed in single-field slow-roll potentials using the stochastic inflation formalism. Various situations are investigated, including falling from a local maximum of the potential and escaping from a local minimum. In the latter case, our result is consistent with that of Hawking and Moss, but is applicable to any potential. It is often claimed that the ultra-slow-roll regime of inflation, where the dynamics of the inflaton field are friction dominated, is a non-attractor and/or transient. In this work we carry out a phase-space analysis of ultra-slow roll in an arbitrary potential, $V(\phi)$. We show that while standard slow roll is always a dynamical attractor whenever it is a self-consistent approximation, ultra-slow roll is stable for an inflaton field rolling down a convex potential with $M_{\scriptscriptstyle{\mathrm{Pl}}} V''>|V'|$ (or for a field rolling up a concave potential with $M_{\scriptscriptstyle{\mathrm{Pl}}} V''<-|V'|$). In particular, when approaching a flat inflection point, ultra-slow roll is always stable and a large number of $e$-folds may be realised in this regime. However, in ultra-slow roll, $\dot{\phi}$ is not a unique function of $\phi$ as it is in slow roll and dependence on initial conditions is retained. With the current increase of distributed generation in distribution networks, line congestions and PQ issues are expected to increase. The smart grid may effectively coordinate DER, only when supported by a comprehensive architecture for automation. In IDE4L project such architecture is designed based on monitoring, control and business use cases. The IDE4L instance of SGAM architecture is derived and explained in details. The automation actor are specified in terms of interfaces, database and functions. The division in these three layers boosted the implementation phase as dedicated interfaces, databases or application has been developed in a modular way and can be installed in different HW/SW. This paper presents the field validation of a method that performs steady-state model synthesis (SSMS) of active distribution networks using syncrophasor measurements. The validation is performed by applying the SSMS method on a real active distribution feeder network by utilizing the measurements from real phasor measurement units (PMUs) installed at the EPFL campus. An extended version of total vector error and a power flow comparison at the PMU buses are used as performance assessment metrics. A real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulations set up at the Distributed Energy System Laboratory is used for further performance assessment of the SSMS application. We study the scalar-tensor-tensor non-Gaussian signal in an inflationary model comprising also an axion coupled with SU(2) gauge fields. In this set-up, metric fluctuations are sourced by the gauge fields already at the linear level providing an enhanced chiral gravitational waves spectrum. Patients and methods: Forty critically ill elderly patients (aged over 65 years) who required amikacin therapy due to severe documented, or suspected gram-negative infections, were randomly assigned to two treatment groups. Group A (20 patients) received 15 mg/kg amikacin and Group B (20 patients) received 25 mg/kg amikacin per day as a single daily dose. All the patients were monitored for renal damage by the daily monitoring of serum creatinine. The amikacin peak (Cmax) and trough (Cmin) serum concentrations were measured on Days 3 and 7 postadministration. Results: Data from 18 patients in Group A and 15 patients in Group B were finally analyzed. On Day 3, the amikacin mean Cmax levels in the standard and high-dose treatment groups were 30.4±11 and 52.3±16.1 µg/mL (P<0.001), and the Cmin levels were 3.2±2.1 and 5.2±2.8 µg/mL, respectively (P=0.035). The term “big data” has been discussed often in recent years so it is high time for us to determine the current state of knowledge on big data and the benefits and challenges that its applications may bring to individuals, companies, or the society at large. We argue that such work will allow for greater dissemination of results across both academic research and practitioners. The determination of the body of knowledge will help to systematize research, whereas practitioners will get insights into the pros and cons of using big data, which in turn can provide the basis for the improved use of big data or its first-time application, respectively. Based on a systematic review consisting of 87 papers, this chapter proposes a number of future research avenues that can be used to organize the study of big data. The future avenues and the determination of the current body of knowledge about big data are considered the main contributions of this chapter. Next, we briefly discuss the term “big data.” Then the insights into the methodology are provided. After that, the results are presented. This is followed by a discussion about the possible future research opportunities. The chapter terminates with final remarks and conclusions.
