This document describes a common subset of selected facilities available in Maclisp and its derivatives: PDP-10 and Multics Maclisp., List Machine Lisp (Zetalisp), and NIL. The object of this document is to aid people in writing code which can run compatibly in more than one of these environments.

In many parts of the world, the magnitude and frequency of cold-season precipitation are expected to increase in the near future. This will result in an increased magnitude and duration of winter and spring flooding by rain-fed streams and rivers. Such climate-driven increases in flooding are likely to affect riparian plant communities, but future vegetation changes are hard to predict due to current lack of data. To fill this knowledge gap, we experimentally modified the hydrology of five streams across three countries in north-western Europe during late winter/early spring over a period of 3 years. We assessed the responses in riparian plant species richness, biomass, plant-available nitrogen and phosphorus and seed deposition to increased flooding depth (+18 cm on average at the lowest positions along the riparian gradient) and prolonged flooding duration (6 weeks on average). After 3 years of increased flooding, there was an overall decline in riparian species richness, while riparian plant biomass increased. Extractable soil nitrogen and phosphorus also increased and are likely to have contributed to the increased biomass. Increased flooding resulted in the arrival of more seeds of additional species to the riparian zone, thereby potentially facilitating the shifts in riparian plant species composition we observed. The results of our concerted experimental effort demonstrate that changes in stream riparian plant communities can occur rapidly following increased winter flooding, leading to strong reductions in plant species diversity.

HOFFMAN is the author of the book Savage Harvest: A Tale of Cannibals, Colonialism & Michael Rockefeller's Tragic Quest for Primitive Art. Force Special Operations Command, in partnership with the Air Armament Center, proposes to construct an environmentally-benign skeet and trap range in close proximity to Hurlburt Field that is of sufficient size and quality to present a premier sport shooting opportunity for both DoD affiliated and non-DoD affiliated customers. The proposed skeet range is being developed to provide a safe, outdoor family-oriented sport to military and DoD members. There are no sport shooting ranges conforming to National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) and Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) standards within 60 minutes of Hurlburt Field or Eglin AFB. The facility will be open three days a week (Wednesday evenings (before sunset), Saturday and Sunday) throwing biodegradable targets that conform to NSSA and ATA rules and guidelines. The facility may be open other days for special functions for either Hurlburt or Eglin, or may offer range safety or hunter safety training classes for everyone. The Proposed Action will involve construction of electrical service to support range operations, concrete pavement as part of the skeet & trap stations (concrete lanes and pads), various sidewalks to provide barrier free access to the clubhouse, restrooms, and asphalt pavement to support vehicle parking requirements. Several small concrete block structures (trap houses) will also be constructed. It is anticipated that the clubhouse and restrooms will be a modular trailer in the near term.

Annual publication summarizing tropical cyclone activity in the Western North Pacific, Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, and South Pacific and South Indian oceans. A best track is provided for each significant tropical cyclone. A brief narrative is given for all typhoons and selected tropical cyclones in the Western North Pacific and North Indian Ocean. All reconnaissance data used to construct the best tracks are provided. The mission of the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) is multi-faceted and includes: 1) Continuous monitoring of all tropical weather activity in the northern and southern hemispheres, from 180 degrees longitude westward to the east coast of Africa, and prompt issuance of appropriate advisories and alerts when tropical cyclone development is anticipated. 2) Issuing warnings on all significant tropical cyclones in the above area of responsibility. 3) Determination of reconnaissance requirements for tropical cyclone surveillance and assignment of appropriate priorities. 4) Post-storm analysis of all significant tropical cyclones occurring within the western North Pacific and North Indian Oceans, which includes an in-depth analysis of tropical cyclones of note and all typhoons. 5) Cooperation on the operational evaluation of tropical cyclone models and forecast aids, and the development of new techniques to support operational forecast scenarios. The relationship between vertical motion at the top of the boundary layer, geostrophic vorticity in the boundary layer and divergence in the boundary layer are examined in the study. The equation of motion and the continuity equation are applied to a homogeneous barotropic atmosphere using a numerical model in the study. The solutions reveal that the boundary layer is stable for very large values of Ro in the case of positive vorticity and becomes unstable at Ro = 1.0 in the case of negative vorticity. A difference in behavior is found between cases of anticyclonic and cyclonic shear. The magnitude of the vertical velocity is greater and the boundary is thicker for anticyclonic than for cyclonic shear systems of equivalent strength. (Author)
