More than half of frequent prescribers (57.1%) reported treating > 20% of their patients with schizophrenia with LAIs. The American Psychiatric Association (APA) guideline was followed by 64.0% of prescribers. Most prescribers identified poor adherence to antipsychotics as a circumstance when LAIs are recommended (94.9%) and patient/caregiver involvement in treatment decisions as a key factor impacting the decision to prescribe LAIs (97.3%). Most prescribers reported that LAI prescribing rates were unchanged in 2020 (59.8%). Information on prescriber and clinical practice characteristics, LAI prescribing, patient outcomes, and attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination was collected and described.Results: Of the 401 LAI prescribers meeting survey criteria, 64.6% reported that LAI prescribing remained unchanged (increase: 19.2%, decrease: 14.0%). The majority did not switch patients from LAIs to oral antipsychotics (OAP; 63.3%) or to LAI formulations with lower frequency of administration (68.1%); most prescribers switched the same number of patients from OAPs to LAIs during the pandemic as in previous practice (65.1%). Half of LAI prescribers (50.1%) reported antipsychotic adherence as unchanged among most patients; 44.6% reported symptom control/relapse frequency as unchanged. Most prescribers believed their patients with schizophrenia should be prioritized for COVID-19 vaccination (74.1%) and encouraged all patients to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine (84.0%). Adults aged ≥ 18 years with ≥ 1 schizophrenia diagnosis claim and ≥ 12 months of continuous medical and prescription enrollment before and/or at index date of PP3M were eligible for inclusion. Patients were matched on propensity score to 2 PP3M cohorts: (1) adequately treated (AT), defined as patients treated with PP1M for ≥ 4 months, with the last 2 doses the same and a PP3M initiation dose meeting the corresponding PP1M-to-PP3M dose conversion, or (2) not adequately treated (NAT), defined as patients who received ≤ 2 or no PP1M doses. Small amounts of applied pesticide chemicals eventually can end up in nontarget areas such as wetlands, sediments, and groundwater where anaerobic conditions often predominate. Runoff and leaching are major means by which pesticides move away from application sites. Pesticides also can find their way into nontarget areas as a result of inappropriate disposal and accidental spills. We evaluated the biodegradability of atrazine, cyanazine, and dicamba in wetland soils under nitratereducing and methanogenic conditions. Wetland soil samples were collected from three different sites in the Chesapeake Bay watershed region. These sites represented both tidal (Lawnes and Levy soils) and nontidal (Myatt soil) wetlands. Tidal wetlands are water-saturated throughout the year, whereas nontidal wetlands are saturated only during certain times of the year. Herbicide fate studies were conducted in wetland soil microcosms consisting of serum bottles filled with soil slurry and containing either atrazine, cyanazine, or dicamba. Atrazine was extremely stable in wetland soil microcosms regardless of incubation temperature, redox status (nitrate-reducing versus methanogenic conditions), or soil type. Neither temperature nor redox status affected cyanazine stability in Myatt wetland soil microcosms. We observed a significant decrease in cyanazine concentration in Lawnes wetland microcosms incubated under methanogenic and nitratereducing conditions. Losses were more pronounced at 25° than at 15°C. Results from enrichment culture studies suggest that cyanazine was cometabolized (i.e., cyanazine could not be used as a carbon and energy source by the microorganisms) in Lawnes soil microcosms. Dicamba was readily biodegraded in the wetland soils tested, although total mineralization was not achieved.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, Lynn won his juris doctorate from California Western School of Law. During his long legal career he’s served on the board of directors for the American Civil Liberties Union of San Diego County (a former president), the Greater San Diego Business Association, Gays and Lesbians for Programming Excellence KPBS Affinity Group, The San Diego LGBT Community Center (in the early years) and the California Human Rights Advocates. He also was a founder of the San Diego Democratic Club and has worked with the San Diego County Health Services Advisory Board, the California Democratic Council, the San Diego Coalition for Human Rights and the Lawyer’s Club of San Diego. Lynn currently sits on the Conference of Delegates of the State Bar Association and is an active member of the Tom Homann Law Association. One of Lynn’s more-notable legal battles was Lawson vs Kolender, a landmark 1983 case that ended in the U.S. Supreme Court striking down California’s 111-year-old vagrancy law. Lynn filed suit on behalf of Edward Lawson, a tall, lanky African-American with impressive dreadlocks, who had been stopped 15 times by San Diego police when he went walking in the city’s so-called “white neighborhoods” and refused to produce identification. The court deemed the law unconstitutional, ruling that any American can walk anywhere, at any time, and not have to identify himself to police without cause. Lynn also is a published journalist, having penned biweekly columns on politics and other non-legal matters for the Pacific Coast Times from 1974 to 1978. He currently heads his own law firm, focusing on appellate and trial litigation, and business and real estate law. And one more significant affiliation for the man who circled the globe: He and partner Howe are members of The Seven Seas Cruising Association., California Preservation Service
