We investigate the nonperturbative structure of Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity at finite cutoff, as given by its proposed formulation in terms of a T (T) over bar -deformed Schwarzian quantum mechanics. Our starting point is a careful computation of the disk partition function to all orders in the perturbative expansion in the cutoff parameter. We show that the perturbative series is asymptotic and that it admits a precise completion exploiting the analytical properties of its Borel transform, as prescribed by resurgence theory. $T\overline{T}$-deformed two-dimensional quantum Maxwell theory on the torus is examined, taking into account nonperturbative effects in the deformation parameter $\mu$. We study the deformed partition function solving the relevant flow equation at the level of individual flux sectors. Summing exactly the "instanton" series, we obtain a well-defined expression for the partition function at arbitrary $\mu$. For $\mu>0$, the quantum spectrum of the theory experiences a truncation, the partition function reducing to a sum over a finite set of positive-energy states. For $\mu<0$ instead, the appearance of nonperturbative contributions in $\mu$ drastically modifies the structure of the partition function, regularizing its naive divergences through instanton-like subtractions. For each flux sector, we show that the semiclassical contribution is dominated by the deformed classical action. We investigate the one-dimensional defect SCFT defined on the $1/2$ BPS Wilson line/loop in ABJ(M) theory. We show that the supermatrix structure of the defect imposes a covariant supermatrix representation of the supercharges. Exploiting this covariant formulation, we prove the existence of a long multiplet whose highest weight state is a constant supermatrix operator. At weak coupling, we study this operator in perturbation theory and confirm that it acquires a non-trivial anomalous dimension. At strong coupling, we conjecture that this operator is dual to the lowest bound state of fluctuations of the fundamental open string in AdS$_4\times \mathbb{CP}_3$ around the classical $1/2$ BPS solution. Quite unexpectedly, this operator also arises in the cohomological equivalence between bosonic and fermionic Wilson loops. We study local operator insertions on 1/2-BPS line defects in ABJM theory. Specifically, we consider a class of four-point correlators in the CFT$_1$ with SU$(1, 1|3)$ superconformal symmetry defined on the 1/2-BPS Wilson line. The relevant insertions belong to the short supermultiplet containing the displacement operator and correspond to fluctuations of the dual fundamental string in AdS$_4 \times \mathbb{C}\textrm{P}^3$ ending on the line at the boundary. We use superspace techniques to represent the displacement supermultiplet and we show that superconformal symmetry determines the four-point correlators of its components in terms of a single function of the one-dimensional cross-ratio. Such function is highly constrained by crossing and internal consistency, allowing us to use an analytical bootstrap approach to find the first subleading correction at strong coupling. In ABJ(M) theory, we propose a matrix model for the exact evaluation of BPS Wilson loops on a latitude circular contour, so providing a new weak-strong interpolation tool. Intriguingly, the matrix model turns out to be a particular case of that computing torus knot invariants in $U(N_1|N_2)$ Chern-Simons theory. At weak coupling we check our proposal against a three-loop computation, performed for generic framing, winding number and representation. The matrix model is amenable of a Fermi gas formulation, which we use to systematically compute the strong coupling and genus expansions. For the fermionic Wilson loop the leading planar behavior agrees with a previous string theory prediction. For the bosonic operator our result provides a clue for finding the corresponding string dual configuration. Our matrix model is consistent with recent proposals for computing Bremsstrahlung functions exactly in terms of latitude Wilson loops. As a by-product, we extend the conjecture for the exact $B^{\theta}_{1/6}$ Bremsstrahlung function to generic representations and test it with a four-loop perturbative computation. Cette thèse concerne deux sujets différents: une étude d'une classe de modèles matriciels qui sont pertinents pour l'holographie, et le calcul d'observables dans une théorie superconforme N = 2 grâce à la technique de la localisation supersymétrique. Le premier sujet traite de modèles matriciels avec symétrie U(N)xO(D) qui ont été introduits récemment. Dans ces modèles, appelés modèles de matrices-vecteurs, il a été montré qu'il est possible de définir une limite de grand D qui conduit à un développement en diagrammes planaires resommable. De plus, ils contiennent des champs et des symétries inspirés de la théorie des cordes et il a été montré qu'un de ces modèles présente les mêmes propriétés physiques que le modèle SYK, dont la connexion avec l'holographie est bien connue. Dans cettethèse, l'étude de ces modèles matriciels est étendue en considérant plusieurs généralisations de la littérature existante. L'étude de modèles avec des termes d'interaction multi-traces et avec une symétrie réduite, et le calcul des observables multi-traces, sont considerés. De plus, plusieurs problèmes concernant la construction de modèles sont pris en considération. Enfin, une analyse approfondie des modèles de matrices-vecteurs fermioniques avec des termes d'interaction quartique est effectuée. We study operator insertions into 1/2 BPS Wilson loops in N = 6 ABJM theory and investigate their two-point correlators. In this framework, the energy emitted by a heavy moving probe can be exactly obtained from some two-point coefficients of bosonic and fermionic insertions. This allows us to confirm an early proposal for computing the Bremsstrahlung function in terms of certain supersymmetric circular Wilson loops, whose value might be accessible to localization techniques. We present the three-loop calculation of the Bremsstrahlung function associated to the 1/2-BPS cusp in ABJM theory, including color subleading corrections. Using the BPS condition we reduce the computation to that of a cusp with vanishing angle. We work within the framework of heavy quark effective theory (HQET) that further simplifies the analytic evaluation of the relevant cusp anomalous dimension in the near-BPS limit. In three dimensional ${\cal N}=4$ Chern-Simons-matter theories two independent fermionic Wilson loop operators can be defined, which preserve half of the supersymmetry charges and are cohomologically equivalent at classical level. We compute their three-loop expectation value in a convenient color sector and prove that the degeneracy is uplifted by quantum corrections. We expand the matrix model prediction in the same regime and by comparison we conclude that the quantum 1/2 BPS Wilson loop is the average of the two operators. We provide an all-loop argument to support this claim at any order. As a by-product, we identify the localization result at three loops as a correction to the framing factor induced by matter interactions. The agreement is particularly subtle in three dimensions where complex answers from localization procedure sometimes arise. We investigate this problem by studying the expectation value of the 1/6 BPS Wilson loop in planar ABJ(M) theory at three loops in perturbation theory. We reproduce the corresponding term in the localization result and argue that it originates entirely from a non-trivial framing of the circular contour. Contrary to pure Chern-Simons theory, we point out that for ABJ(M) the framing phase is a non-trivial function of the couplings and that it potentially receives contributions from vertex-like diagrams. We study the cusp anomalous dimension in N=6 ABJ(M) theory, identifying a scaling limit in which the ladder diagrams dominate. The resummation is encoded into a Bethe-Salpeter equation that is mapped to a Schroedinger problem, exactly solvable due to the surprising supersymmetry of the effective Hamiltonian. In the ABJ case the solution implies the diagonalization of the U(N) and U(M) building blocks, suggesting the existence of two independent cusp anomalous dimensions and an unexpected exponentiation structure for the related Wilson loops. For three-dimensional ${\cal N}=4$ super Chern-Simons-matter theories associated to necklace quivers $U(N_0) \times U(N_1) \times \cdots U(N_{2r-1}) $, we study at quantum level the two kinds of 1/2 BPS Wilson loop operators recently introduced in arXiv:1506.07614. We perform a two-loop evaluation and find the same result for the two kinds of operators, so moving to higher loops a possible quantum uplift of the classical degeneracy. We also compute the 1/4 BPS bosonic Wilson loop and discuss the quantum version of the cohomological equivalence between fermionic and bosonic Wilson loops. We compare the perturbative result with the Matrix Model prediction and find perfect matching, after identification and remotion of a suitable framing factor. Finally, we discuss the potential appearance of three-loop contributions that might break the classical degeneracy and briefly analyse possible implications on the BPS nature of these operators., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures

We discuss the near BPS expansion of the generalized cusp anomalous dimension with L units of R-charge. Integrability provides an exact solution, obtained by solving a general TBA equation in the appropriate limit: we propose here an alternative method based on supersymmetric localization. The basic idea is to relate the computation to the vacuum expectation value of certain 1/8 BPS Wilson loops with local operator insertions along the contour. These observables localize on a two-dimensional gauge theory on S^2, opening the possibility of exact calculations. As a test of our proposal, we reproduce the leading Luscher correction at weak coupling to the generalized cusp anomalous dimension. We study at perturbative level the correlation functions of a general class of 1/8 BPS Wilson loops and chiral primaries in N = 4 Super Yang-Mills theory. The contours and the location of operator insertions share a sphere S^2 embedded into spacetime and the system preserves at least two supercharges. We perform explicit two-loop computations, for some particular but still rather general configuration, that confirm the elegant results expected from localization procedure. We find notably full consistency with the multi-matrix model averages, obtained from 2D Yang-Mills theory on the sphere, when interacting diagrams do not cancel and contribute non-trivially to the final answer., Comment: 30 pages, 13 figures

We study a family of circular BPS Wilson loops in N=6 super Chern-Simons-matter theories, generalizing the usual 1/2-BPS circle. The scalar and fermionic couplings depend on two deformation parameters and these operators can be considered as the ABJ(M) counterpart of the DGRT latitudes defined in N=4 SYM. We perform a complete two-loop analysis of their vacuum expectation value, discuss the framing dependence and propose a general relation with cohomologically equivalent bosonic operators. We make an all-loop proposal for computing the Bremsstrahlung function associated to the 1/2-BPS cusp in terms of these generalized Wilson loops. When applied to our two-loop result it reproduces the known expression. We precisely reproduce the perimeter law obeyed by Wilson loops on large spatial contours in planar N=2 SYM at strong coupling, as recently deduced using localization, by means of a dual holographic model. The relevant supergravity background is sourced by D5-branes wrapped on a two-sphere in a Calabi-Yau two-manifold. Thus, localization and holography are cross-checked, for the first time, in a non conformal context where the gravity background is not asymptotically Anti de Sitter and the dual gauge theory has a logarithmically running coupling. We present a complete two-loop analysis of the quantum expectation value for circular BPS Wilson loops in ABJ(M) theories. We examine in details the 1/2 BPS case, that requires non-trivial fermionic couplings with the contour, finding perfect agreement with the exact matrix model answer at zero framing. The result is obtained through a careful application of DRED regularization scheme, combined with a judicious rearrangement of the relevant perturbative contributions that reduces the computation to simple integrals. We construct a generalized cusped Wilson loop operator in N = 6 super Chern-Simons-matter theories which is locally invariant under half of the supercharges. It depends on two parameters and interpolates smoothly between the 1/2 BPS line or circle and a pair of antiparallel lines, representing a natural generalization of the quark-antiquark potential in ABJ(M) theories. For particular choices of the parameters we obtain 1/6 BPS configurations that, mapped on S^2 by a conformal transformation, realize a three-dimensional analogue of the wedge DGRT Wilson loop of N = 4. The cusp couples, in addition to the gauge and scalar fields of the theory, also to the fermions in the bifundamental representation of the U(N)xU(M) gauge group and its expectation value is expressed as the holonomy of a suitable superconnection. We discuss the definition of these observables in terms of traces and the role of the boundary conditions of fermions along the loop. We perform a complete two-loop analysis, obtaining an explicit result for the generalized cusp at the second non-trivial order, from which we read off the interaction potential between heavy 1/2 BPS particles in the ABJ(M) model. We study at quantum level correlators of supersymmetric Wilson loops with contours lying on Hopf fibers of $S^3$. In $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory the strong coupling analysis can be performed using the AdS/CFT correspondence and a connected classical string surface, linking two different fibers, is presented. More precisely, the string solution describes oppositely oriented fibers with the same scalar coupling and depends on an angular parameter, interpolating between a non-BPS configuration and a BPS one. The system can be thought as an alternative deformation of the ordinary antiparallel lines giving the static quark-antiquark potential, that is indeed correctly reproduced, at weak and strong coupling, as the fibers approach one another., Comment: 38 pages, 5 figures

We study a general class of supersymmetric Wilson loops operator in N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory, obtained as orbits of conformal transformations. These loops are the natural generalization of the familiar circular Wilson-Maldacena operator and their supersymmetric properties are encoded into a Killing spinor that is not pure. We present a systematic analysis of their scalar couplings and of the preserved supercharges, modulo the action of the global symmetry group, both in the compact and in the non-compact case. The non-commutative version of the euclidean $g^2\phi^4$ theory is considered. By using Wilsonian flow equations the ultraviolet renormalizability can be proved to all orders in perturbation theory. On the other hand, the infrared sector cannot be treated perturbatively and requires a resummation of the leading divergencies in the two-point function. This is analogous to what is done in the Hard Thermal Loops resummation of finite temperature field theory. Next-to-leading order corrections to the self-energy are computed, resulting in $O(g^3)$ contributions in the massless case, and $O(g^6\log g^2)$ in the massive one., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. We study the perturbative unitarity of non-commutative quantum Yang-Mills theories, extending previous investigations on scalar field theories to the gauge case where non-locality mingles with the presence of unphysical states. We concentrate our e↵orts on two di↵erent aspects of the problem. We start by discussing the analytical structure of the vacuum polarization tensor, showing how Cutkoski’s rules and positivity of the spectral function are realized when non-commutativity does not a↵ect the temporal coordinate. When instead non-commutativity involves time, we find the presence of extra troublesome singularities on the p20-plane that seem to invalidate the perturbative unitarity of the theory. The existence of new tachyonic poles, with respect to the scalar case, is also uncovered. Then we turn our attention to a di↵erent unitarity check in the ordinary theories, namely time exponentiation of a Wilson loop. We perform a O(g4) generalization to the (spa- tial) non-commutative case of the familiar results in the usual Yang-Mills theory. We show that exponentiation persists at O(g4) in spite of the presence of Moyal phases reflecting non-commutativity and of the singular infrared behaviour induced by UV/IR mixing.

Yang-Mills theories on the S1×R cylinder are quantized at equal time in the light-cone gauge A-=0. Zero modes, related to the winding around the cylinder, provide topological variables with a nontrivial Hamiltonian. Positive and negative frequency components do contribute to Green functions, in particular, to the free propagator, in a causal way, leading to expressions different from the ones in the literature. They are tested in the calculation of a Wilson loop with lightlike sides: in the Abelian case it can be exactly computed, obtaining the expected exponentiation of the area; in the SU(N) case the area exponentiation in terms of the Casimir constant of the fundamental representation is obtained only if a "contact form of the propagator is used. If instead the causal propagator is adopted, only an O(g4) calculation has been obtained entailing also the presence of the Casimir constant of the adjoint representation
