The fertilizer industry plays a crucial role in assuring the food security of a nation, but it also faces significant environmental obstacles. These problems often contribute to decreased supply chain efficiency and overall industrial productivity. The industry's focus on profit maximization hinders adopting green supply chain strategies. This paper examines company q's adoption of green supply chain management (GSCM) practices. This study evaluates its performance using the green supply chain operations reference (Green SCOR) model, scoring 73.54 out of 100, classifying it as 'good.' However, there is room for improvement, especially concerning key performance indicators (KPIs). This paper identifies six KPIs that fall below satisfactory levels and offers specific recommendations for improvement. This study significantly contributes to the fertilizer industry by providing actionable insights for practitioners and advancing theoretical understanding by highlighting key overlooked indicators. Furthermore, this research also emphasizes the crucial role of government policies in stimulating the implementation of sustainable supply chain practices.

Contextualización: El inadecuado uso de agroquímicos genera grandes problemas ambientales, incluyendo emisiones de gases efecto invernadero. Esto se ha pasado por alto durante mucho tiempo por la gran demanda para la producción agrícola global y actualmente se evidencian efectos negativos desde la perspectiva de sustentabilidad, sumado a la coyuntura de precios elevados de agroinsumos. Vacío del conocimiento: Compilar información de bioinsumos registrados como inóculos biológicos en Colombia, facilita la búsqueda por parte de productores interesados en fortalecer la competitividad sustentable del agro colombiano encaminada a la mitigación del uso de fertilizantes de síntesis química e ir incrementando el uso de bioinsumos que puedan suplir los requerimientos de los cultivos. Propósito: El objetivo de esta revisión es presentar beneficios asociados con el uso de Inoculantes biológicos microbianos y la oportunidad que representan para la sustentabilidad agrícola y fortalecimiento de la bioeconomía colombiana. Metodología: Se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de literatura con parámetros establecidos por PRISMA y con base a información relevante de empresas de inoculantes biológicos en la agricultura colombiana. Resultados y conclusiones: Se identificaron 4910 estudios y 12 cumplieron con los protocolos de selección. De 393 registros de productos biológicos en Colombia, 119 corresponden a inoculantes biológicos. Desde la perspectiva de bioeconomía y negocios verdes, la exploración y aprovechamiento ecológicamente responsable de la biodiversidad microbiana en Colombia, es una oportunidad para disminuir el uso de fertilizantes de síntesis química y encaminar una transición hacia la agricultura sustentable basada el uso de inóculos biológicos microbianos como mejoradores de la calidad y salud de suelos agrícolas., Contextualization: The inappropriate use of agrochemicals generates major environmental problems, including greenhouse gas emissions. Purpose: The objective of this review is to present benefits associated with the use of microbial biological inoculants and the opportunity they represent for agricultural sustainability and strengthening of the Colombian bioeconomy. Methodology: A systematic review of the literature was carried out according to the parameters established by PRISMA and based on relevant information from companies of biological inoculants in Colombian agriculture. The results show that the fertilizer industry has market power based on three characteristics; the number of incumbents (five), degree of market concentration (95.48 percent), and barrier to entry condition. Meanwhile, its industrial technical efficiency score is low (0.584), but its scale efficiency score is high (0.950). The results also show that firm performance is determined by efficiency, not market power. Both technical and scale efficiency positively and significantly affect performance. On the other hand, market power does not significantly affect performance. Het is stilte voor de storm op de kunstmestmarkt. Boeren wachten af met aankopen en de handel heeft voorlopig voldoende KAS op voorraad. De mate van de hectiek op de KAS-markt hangt er van af of het een vroeg of laat voorjaar wordt, verwachten kunstmestleveranciers. „Het weer is bepalend voor het kunstmestseizoen.”

Kalkammonsalpeter, ofwel KAS, de stikstofhoudende kunstmest in korrelvorm die plantengroei stimuleert, wordt al jarenlang toegepast op sportvelden. Meststoffenproducent DCM loopt echter ver voorop in het aanpassen van meststoffen aan de huidige tijd en aan de specifieke doelgroepen.

Op de locatie van ICL Fertilizers Europe CV in Amsterdam werken 160 mensen. De voornaamste activiteit van het bedrijf is de productie van kunstmest. Dat gebeurt door het bewerken van fosfaatertsen. OCI Nitrogen heeft in samenwerking met Coperion en huiscontractor Sitech een nieuwe koeler ontwikkeld, de eerste van dit type in de kunstmestbranche. Een productieverhoging met de daarbij behorende nieuwe vergunningseis van maximaal 10 ton stofemissie per jaar lag aan de ontwikkeling ten grondslag. Hub van Maris van OCI Nitrogen: "Als je bedenkt dat we met de bestaande luchtkoelers in totaal circa 174 ton per jaar emitteerden, dan is het duidelijk dat het om een vrijwel onmogelijke opgave ging. Vandaar de ontwikkeling van een nieuw koelprocedé." Na twee jaar van vallen en opstaan, werkt de indirecte waterkoeling naar tevredenheid en worden ook de twee andere lijnen aangepast.

Triferto, groothandel in kunstmatige meststoffen, heeft in Gent een productielocatie. Die plant heeft een lange geschiedenis en ligt vlak naast het historische centrum van Gent. De wooncomplexen rukken op tot naast de deur. Ondanks de strenge milieueisen moest er een forse capaciteitsuitbreiding worden gerealiseerd want Triferto groeit snel. Hoe dat allemaal is gelukt, vertelt Stefaan Pockelé, verantwoordelijk voor de gehele operatie.

Pillaert Meststoffen betrok in 2009 in Zwijnaarde, bij Gent, een reusachtige, nieuwe bedrijfshal. Deze hal staat op een strategisch goed gekozen locatie, in de zuidoosthoek van de kruising van twee belangrijke snelwegen, aan een kanaal. De groothandel verzet jaarlijks vele tonnen minerale meststoffen voor de landbouw en tuinbouw in voornamelijk België en Noord-Frankrijk, in bulk of gepakt en gezakt.

Als groothandel met een opslag- en overslagfunctie weet Triferto alles van de handling van minerale meststoffen ofwel kunstmest. Dat betreft deels agressieve stoffen die ook nog eens min of meer hygroscopisch zijn. Die ervaring heeft binnen de organisatie, met 15 Nederlandse distributiepunten en een productielocatie in Gent, geleid tot een paar slimme vindingen. Increasing yields from existing farmland is the only sustainable option if we are to prevent further destruction of biodiversity and negative environmental impacts (in particular, CO2 emissions related to land use change). To meet these challenges, the importance of the role of plant nutrients and their efficient management cannot be overemphasized.

Met een nieuw kassengebied in de regio Terneuzen wordt twee keer het energiegebruik van de stad bespaard. This study investigates the influence of politics on the budgeting process within the fertiliser manufacturing industry in Indonesia. Prior budgeting studies have focused on one of the following three theoretical frameworks - economic, psychological, and social. This study expands the research corpus by assessing the effect of politics on the budgeting process. The objectives of this study arc: (a) to investigate the effect of politics in the relationship between managerial roles and budgeting process – budgetary participation, budgetary communication, and budgetary control including budgetary monitoring and budgetary evaluation, and (b) to assess the impact of structural and individual power on the budgeting process. The study uses a mixed research methodology survey method supplemented by interviews. The survey questionnaire is adapted from previous studies. The sample for this study consists of four fertiliser-manufacturing enterprises in the state owned sector of Indonesia. The respondents of the survey questionnaire were middle managers responsible for unit budgets in the sample companies. Respondents were asked to rate on a seven-point scale their agreement or disagreement with issues concerning the budgeting process, managerial roles and politics. Survey interviews, based on the questionnaire, were developed for a select group of respondents, consisting of middle and senior managers. The results of the study, both survey questionnaire and interviews, indicate that politics has significant influence on the budgeting process. Further, it showed that the influence appeared different, depending whether structural or individual power is involved. The major implications of this study centre on the strong moderating effect of politics on the relationship between the budgeting process and managerial roles: this seems to be a relevant construct and should be developed further. Hopefully, the study will advance the thinking of scholars in this area and create interest

Identifying the determinants of compensation is important from employee and firm financial perspectives. This analysis examines the compensation of three different skill level categories - managerial, specialized, and general. The types of compensation examined include salaries, bonuses, benefits, and total compensation. Neoclassical theory is represented in the models by net return, managerialist theory by annual sales volume and form of ownership, and human capital theory by both education after high school and agribusiness work experience. Also controlled for in the models are the potential effect of salary on bonuses and benefits. Major findings include that annual sales volume, education after high school, and agribusiness work experience are the important determinants of salaries and total compensation. Bonuses for managers tend to increase with annual sales volume, and bonuses for employees in specialized and general skill level categories tend to be lower for those employed by cooperatives. Benefits tend to increase with salary. From the employee’s perspective, these findings indicate that, in order to maximize salary and total compensation, employees should seek employment in larger firms, attend college, and gain work experience. To decrease the variability of compensation associated with a high reliance on bonuses, specialized and general skill level employees may want to seek employment in a cooperative. Employees should realize that increases in benefits are linked to increases in salaries. From the firm’s perspective, smaller firms need to recognize that larger firms provide higher compensation. Hence, smaller firms may have to offer other amenities to attract, retain, and motivate employees. To attain more educated and experienced employees, firms will have to provide higher compensation. Cooperatives desiring performance oriented employees may have to alter their compensation packages to include higher bonuses.

Storage tanks and railroad tanker cars stand outside a building marked Northland Chemical Co. in Grafton, described as a fertilizer plant. A small trailer stands off to the right of the business.

Farmers grain elevators stand near the railroad tracks in Mooreton, N.D. At far left, a Farmers bulk fertilizer elevator is also visible. Houses surround the elevators. Some of the houses have laundry drying on clotheslines in the backyard.

Three metal warehouses marked Herbicides, Fertilizer, and Insecticides branch off from the main building at Agsco Fertilizer in Grand Forks. Cars, trucks, and heavy equipment are parked in the yard.

The Colfax Grain Co. elevator stands next to one advertising Richland feeds, bulk fertilizer, chemicals, seeds, and twine. Several storage buildings, a gas station, and a few houses are located nearby.
