Letter dated April 2, 1864 from E. B. (Elisha B.) Jackson of Philadelphia to Colonel Pennock Huey of the 8th Pennsylvania Cavalry regarding pension benefits for Elizabeth A. Hall. Hall believed her son, John Hall, had enlisted with Company D of the 8th Pennsylvania Cavalry in Washington, D. C., rather than in Philadelphia and that was why his name did not appear on muster-in rolls at the Adjutant General's Office in Washington, D. C. or in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Jackson asks if Huey has found a previously discussed roll on which Hall's name appears or, if not, would Huey and other officers of the 8th Pennsylvania Cavalry be willing to provide a certificate stating that John Hall was indeed a member of their unit.

Pro-Masonic circular. "Solicitation to help the Masonic periodical the Craftsman, edited by E.J. Roberts in Rochester, N.Y. The Craftsman was begun in Feb. 1829 to defend Freemasonry. This circular proposes that loans of $25 - $100 be made available to the newspaper, to be repaid over 3 years or taken in subscriptions. Signed Vincent Mathews and 9 others.
