Producción Científica, Pine species are a key social and economic component in Mediterranean ecosystems, where insect defoliations can have far-reaching consequences. This study aims to quantify the impact of pine processionary moth (PPM) on canopy structures, examining its evolution over time at the individual tree level using high-density drone LiDAR-derived point clouds. Focusing on 33 individuals of black pine (Pinus nigra)—a species highly susceptible to PPM defoliation in the Mediterranean environment—bitemporal LiDAR scans were conducted to capture the onset and end of the major PPM feeding period in winter. Canopy crown delineation performed manually was compared with LiDAR-based methods. Canopy metrics from point clouds were computed for trees exhibiting contrasting levels of defoliation. The structural differences between non-defoliated and defoliated trees were assessed by employing parametric statistical comparisons, including analysis of variance along with post hoc tests. Our analysis aimed to distinguish structural changes resulting from PPM defoliation during the winter feeding period. Outcomes revealed substantive alterations in canopy cover, with an average reduction of 22.92% in the leaf area index for defoliated trees, accompanied by a significant increase in the number of returns in lower tree crown branches. Evident variations in canopy density were observed throughout the feeding period, enabling the identification of two to three change classes using LiDAR-derived canopy density metrics. Manual and LiDAR-based crown delineations exhibited minimal differences in computed canopy LiDAR metrics, showcasing the potential of LiDAR delineations for broader applications. PPM infestations induced noteworthy modifications in canopy morphology, affecting key structural parameters. Drone LiDAR data emerged as a comprehensive tool for quantifying these transformations. En el presente Trabajo Fin de Grado se evalúa la productividad de aceites esenciales en masas de Cistus ladanifer L. (Jara pringosa) de edad coetánea localizadas en el término municipal de Bustares, provincia de Guadalajara. Se estudian los efectos del clima y el vigor vegetal, medido mediante técnicas de teledetección, sobre la productividad de aceites esenciales para favorecer una gestión forestal sostenible de estos espacios. El valor comercial actual de la Jara pringosa se asocia a la obtención y aprovechamiento de biomasa y aceites esenciales derivados de la resina del ládano. Sin embargo, el conocimiento sobre la productividad de aceites esenciales, así como algunas de sus utilidades están todavía escasamente estudiadas, siendo fundamental para poder valorizar el uso de estos espacios forestales. El objetivo central de esta investigación es determinar cuáles son los factores ambientales, climáticos y asociados al vigor vegetal, más relacionados con la productividad de aceites esenciales de la Jara pringosa. Para realizar esta investigación se utilizaron muestras de campo y datos obtenidos en el proyecto “BioCistus 4.0” realizado por el CEDER-CIEMAT que realizó el trabajo de corta de la Jara pringosa en parcelas de campo y posterior extracción de los valores de productividad de aceites esenciales en base seca y húmeda, y la realización de los vuelos de dron en el área de estudio. Para realizar este estudio se obtuvo información climática de una estación meteorológica localizada en el área de estudio, organizando la información, así como calculando valores acumulados. También se procesaron 54 vuelos realizados con un Dron DJI Phantom 4 multiespectral utilizando el Software Pix4D Mapper, pertenecientes a 18 fechas de vuelo en tres parcelas. A partir de los ortomosaicos de cada una de las fechas del dron se derivaron dos índices de vegetación: el NDVI y el GNDVI. Producción Científica, Invasive alien plants are transforming the landscapes, threatening the most vulnerable elements of local biodiversity across the globe. The monitoring of invasive species is paramount for minimizing the impact on biodiversity. In this study, we aim to discriminate and identify the spatial extent of Acacia dealbata Link from other species using RGB-NIR Sentinel-2 data based on phenological spectral peak differences. Time series were processed using the Earth Engine platform and random forest importance was used to select the most suitable Sentinel-2 derived metrics. Thereafter, a random forest machine learning algorithm was trained to discriminate between A. dealbata and native species. A flowering period was detected in March and metrics based on the spectral difference between blooming and the pre flowering (January) or post flowering (May) months were highly suitable for A. dealbata discrimination. The best-fitted classification model shows an overall accuracy of 94%, including six Sentinel-2 derived metrics. We find that 55% of A. dealbata presences were widely widespread in patches replacing Pinus pinaster Ait. stands. This invasive alien species also creates continuous monospecific stands representing 33% of the presences.
