The Mediterranean islands’ blue economy and, more specifically, the tourism sector, largely regulate Europe’s gross product. Climate change threatens the ecological, societal, and economic sustainability of the islands in many ways, with increasing wildfires making up one of the most critical components of the climate change impacts on tourism. Here, we aim to identify and assess forest fire vulnerability and risk due to climate change for seven Mediterranean islands through the application of the “impact chain” conceptual framework. The backbone of this approach requires the integration of quantitative and qualitative data according to the three main risk components sensu the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), i.e., hazard, exposure, and vulnerability, with a structured participatory approach involving stakeholders and experts. Our results illustrate the islands with high potential for improvement in terms of adapting capacity and, by indicating the contribution of the different risk components, highlight the main environmental and socio-economic elements that affect the islands’ vulnerability and risk under climate change. The approach’s potentials and constraints are discussed, suggesting that the method can be handily used to point out the priorities that must be addressed by mitigation and adaptation policies and measures at the island level. © 2021 by the authors. A clear difference in the scaling laws with respect to the magnitude of the positional disorder and the chain size is found, as compared to those for uncorrelated diagonal disorder as well as for off-diagonal disorder modeled by uncorrelated randomness in the nearest-neighbor couplings. Exciton diffusion is considered as an incoherent hopping over localization segments and is probed by the exciton fluorescence quenching at point traps. The rate equation is used to calculate the temperature dependence of the exciton quenching. The activation temperature of the diffusion is found to be of the order of the width of the exciton absorption band. We demonstrate that the intra-segment scattering is extremely important for the exciton diffusion. Disorder is generated by Gaussian randomness in the molecular positions. The intersite interaction is considered to be of dipole origin, including coupling to far neighbors. Results of simulations are compared with those obtained in the frame of the nearest-neighbor approximation, showing remarkable differences in the absorption line shape. The absorption linewidth and the factor of radiative rate enhancement are studied as a function of the correlation length of the disorder. Thr absorption line width monotonously approaches the seeding degree of disorder on increasing the correlation length. On the contrary, the factor of radiative rate enhancement shows a nonmonotonous trend, indicating a complicated scenario of the exciton localization in correlated systems. The concept of coherently bound molecules is exploited to explain the numerical results, showing good agreement with theory. Some recent experiments are discussed in the light of the present theory. The source of disorder is the stochastic fluctuation of the impurity energy from site to site. We study the optical absorption spectra and the peculiarities of the motional narrowing effect at the band edges for perturbative and nonperturbative degrees of disorder.
