Abstract: Future possibility of far-infrared and terahertz intensity interferometry in space is discussed. Fast photon counting detectors with 1 ns time resolution and NEP less than 10(exp -17) W/square root of Hz can resolve all photon arrivals from bright far-infrared sources cataloged by AKARI. Intensity correlation due to photon bunches enable delay time measurements, and complex visibility is obtained for aperture synthesis imaging. Precise timing measurements on independent cryogenic telescopes and formation flights enable a long baseline intensity interferometer in space. In this paper, we discuss on a simulation based study to compare the intensity interferometry with heterodyne (amplitude) interferometry. Although the intensity interferometry requires longer integration time for the delay time measurements, the intensity cross correlation is stable against atmospheric phase fluctuation, which enables long baseline observations from ground. From space, sensitivity gain of direct detectors and photon counting detectors over heterodyne technologies can be several orders of magnitude under low background condition. 2. Spatially Resolved Star-formation Activity of Starburst Galaxy NGC 253

Abstract: NGC 253 is well known local starburst galaxy which is currently undergoing a period of intense star formation. We present spatially resolved star-forming activity analysis of NGC 253 using multi-wavelength data from optical to radio. NGC 253 star-forming regions, especially those in the galactic center, are enshrouded by not a few amount of dust produced by their active star-formation. Star-formation tracers which suffer less dust extinction will be essential to investigate the star formation. Pa alpha emission line at 1.875 micrometers traces actual star-formation activity even at high extinction region that is difficult to measure it in optical wavelengths. We have carried out Pa narrow-band imaging observations which cannot be derived from ground based facilities except for TAO site. Low frequency (e.g. 1.4 GHz) radio continuum data taken with VLA and FIR forbidden lines with AKARI FIS/FTS and Herschel are also good tracers for current star-formation. Abstract: The application of the Martin-Puplett type Fourier transform spectrometer to aperture synthesis is considered. The configuration of the mirrors and beam splitters and the fundamental mathematical elements of the system are summarized. It is shown that the system can measure spectrally resolved spatial distribution of the Stokes parameters of sources as interfered signals. An original Martin-Puplett type Fourier transform spectrometer that can be applied to aperture synthesis in mm and sub-mm wave bands has been constructed. The preliminary results of the laboratory experiments are reported., Martin-Puplett型フーリエ変換分光器の開口合成法に対する応用について考察した。ミラーとビーム分割器の配置およびシステムの基本的な数学的原理を簡単に述べた。このシステムは、光源のストークス・パラメータのスペクトル分解した空間的な分布を、干渉信号として測定できることを示した。ミリメータおよびサブミリメータの波長バンドにおいて開口合成に適用できるオリジナルなMartin-Puplett型フーリエ変換分光器を作製した。室内実験の予備的な結果を報告した。 more...
