Summary: Text analytics is a field that lies on the interface of information retrieval, machine learning, and natural language processing. This book carefully covers a coherently organized framework drawn from these intersecting topics. The chapters of this book span three broad categories: 1. Basic algorithms: Chapters 1 through 8 discuss the classical algorithms for text analytics such as preprocessing, similarity computation, topic modeling, matrix factorization, clustering, classification, regression, and ensemble analysis. 2. Domain-sensitive learning: Chapters 8 and 9 discuss learning models in heterogeneous settings such as a combination of text with multimedia or Web links. The problem of information retrieval and Web search is also discussed in the context of its relationship with ranking and machine learning methods. 3. Sequence-centric mining: Chapters 10 through 14 discuss various sequence-centric and natural language applications, such as feature engineering, neural language models, deep learning, text summarization, information extraction, opinion mining, text segmentation, and event detection. This book covers text analytics and machine learning topics from the simple to the advanced. Since the coverage is extensive, multiple courses can be offered from the same book, depending on course level.

Summary: This book introduces the concepts and models of robust representation learning, and provides a set of solutions to deal with real-world data analytics tasks, such as clustering, classification, time series modeling, outlier detection, collaborative filtering, community detection, et cetera Three types of robust feature representations are developed, which extend the understanding of graph, subspace, and dictionary. Leveraging the theory of low-rank and sparse modeling, the authors develop robust feature representations under various learning paradigms, including unsupervised learning, supervised learning, semi-supervised learning, multi-view learning, transfer learning, and deep learning. Summary: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Mining Intelligence and Knowledge Exploration, MIKE 2015, held in Hyderabad, India, in December 2015. The 48 full papers and 8 short papers presented together with 4 doctoral consortium papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 185 submissions. The papers cover a wide range of topics including information retrieval, machine learning, pattern recognition, knowledge discovery, classification, clustering, image processing, network security, speech processing, natural language processing, language, cognition and computation, fuzzy sets, and business intelligence.

Summary: This book constitutes the proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Modeling Decisions for Artificial Intelligence, MDAI 2015, held in Skövde, Sweden, in September 2015. The 18 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 38 submissions. They discuss theory and tools for modeling decisions, as well as applications that encompass decision making processes and information fusion techniques.

Summary: Opinion mining is a prevalent research issue in many domains. In the financial domain, however, it is still in the early stages. Most of the researches on this topic only focus on the coarse-grained market sentiment analysis, i.e., 2-way classification for bullish/bearish. Thanks to the recent financial technology (FinTech) development, some interdisciplinary researchers start to involve in the in-depth analysis of investors' opinions. These works indicate the trend toward fine-grained opinion mining in the financial domain. When expressing opinions in finance, terms like bullish/bearish often spring to mind. However, the market sentiment of the financial instrument is just one type of opinion in the financial industry. Like other industries such as manufacturing and textiles, the financial industry also has a large number of products. Financial services are also a major business for many financial companies, especially in the context of the recent FinTech trend. For instance, many commercial banks focus on loans and credit cards. Although there are a variety of issues that could be explored in the financial domain, most researchers in the AI and NLP communities only focus on the market sentiment of the stock or foreign exchange. This open access book addresses several research issues that can broaden the research topics in the AI community. It also provides an overview of the status quo in fine-grained financial opinion mining to offer insights into the futures goals. For a better understanding of the past and the current research, it also discusses the components of financial opinions one-by-one with the related works and highlights some possible research avenues, providing a research agenda with both micro- and macro-views toward financial opinions.

An innovative model of power system (PS) imbalances is presented, which aims to capture various features of the stochastic behavior of imbalances and to reduce in average reserve requirements and PS risk. Deep learning techniques for medium-term wind speed and solar irradiance forecasting are presented, using for first time a specific cloud index. Scalability-replicability of the FLEXITRANSTORE technology innovations integrates hardware-software solutions in all areas of the transmission system and the wholesale markets, promoting increased RES. A deep learning and GIS approach are combined for the optimal positioning of wave energy converters. An innovative methodology to hybridize battery-based energy storage using supercapacitors for smoother power profile, a new control scheme and battery degradation mechanism and their economic viability are presented. An innovative module-level photovoltaic (PV) architecture in parallel configuration is introduced maximizing power extraction under partial shading. A new method for detecting demagnetization faults in axial flux permanent magnet synchronous wind generators is presented. The stochastic operating temperature (OT) optimization integrated with Markov Chain simulation ascertains a more accurate OT for guiding the coal gasification practice.

Summary: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a subject garnering increasing attention in both academia and the industry today. The understanding is that AI-enhanced methods and techniques create a variety of opportunities related to improving basic and advanced business functions, including production processes, logistics, financial management and others. As this collection demonstrates, AI-enhanced tools and methods tend to offer more precise results in the fields of engineering, financial accounting, tourism, air-pollution management and many more. The objective of this collection is to bring these topics together to offer the reader a useful primer on how AI-enhanced tools and applications can be of use in today's world. In the context of the frequently fearful, skeptical and emotion-laden debates on AI and its value added, this volume promotes a positive perspective on AI and its impact on society. AI is a part of a broader ecosystem of sophisticated tools, techniques and technologies, and therefore, it is not immune to developments in that ecosystem. Summary: Tribology has been and continues to be one of the most relevant fields, being present in almost all aspects of our lives. The understanding of tribology provides us with solutions for future technical challenges. At the root of all advances made so far are multitudes of precise experiments and an increasing number of advanced computer simulations across different scales and multiple physical disciplines. Based upon this sound and data-rich foundation, advanced data handling, analysis and learning methods can be developed and employed to expand existing knowledge. Therefore, modern machine learning (ML) or artificial intelligence (AI) methods provide opportunities to explore the complex processes in tribological systems and to classify or quantify their behavior in an efficient or even real-time way. Thus, their potential also goes beyond purely academic aspects into actual industrial applications. To help pave the way, this article collection aimed to present the latest research on ML or AI approaches for solving tribology-related issues generating true added value beyond just buzzwords. In this sense, this Special Issue can support researchers in identifying initial selections and best practice solutions for ML in tribology.
