The study investigated Effects of Weeding Strategies on Information Resources Management Among Public Libraries in North-Central States of Nigeria, the researcher observed that Every library's print collection is limited by the space available, and collections must change over time to reflect changes in the community and in the library's goals, as result, five (5) research questions and objectives were formulated with respect to how unwanted information resources managed, shelf-time period of information resources, effects of weeding on library organisation and services and the challenges of weeding in public libraries. Survey research method was adopted for the study and staff in the circulation, technical, reference, readers and collection development units of the public libraries in Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) constituted the population of the study. Data were collected using questionnaire and observation, frequency tables and simple percentages were used to analyse the data collected for the study. The study found among others that public libraries in north-central states of Nigeria keep obsolete information resources in store rooms, basic tasks in library management include the acquisition, classification of acquired materials, preservation of materials (especially rare and fragile archival materials such as manuscripts), are affected by weeding activities. The discovery and management of scholarly materials have changed in recent years with the introduction of new-generation systems based on decoupled architecture. In addition to offering a modern user experience, new library discovery systems extend the scope of materials available through a single interface far beyond the physical collections of the library, reaching the wealth of scholarly collections of global significance. Such systems also leverage a body of usage data gathered from institutions worldwide to enhance the discoverability of materials. New management systems, built from the outset to manage all types of scholarly assets, harness technological advances, shared bibliographic metadata, and community collaboration to optimize library services. The paper examines some of the current trends in new-generation systems and focuses on the way in which collaboration among stakeholders and the aggregation of information-scholarly content, bibliographic metadata, and usage data-combine with the local and individual context to establish a new level of discovery and management of scholarly materials. An assessment of the impact of Latin American electronic journals included in international databases is offered, with the aim of evaluating the performance of these journals in the international literature. The Latin American journals selected are analyzed and preserved in the Latin American Journal Collection (Hemeroteca Latinoamericana) of the General Libraries Directorate of the National University of Mexico (UNAM); are available on line and included in two databases, namely PERIODICA and CLASE, were used for this work. The journal titles were searched in the most important international databases of each discipline with the aim of detect their presence in this databases their coverage and actual status. The obtained data were analyzed and interpreted. A diagnosis on the performance of these journals at an international level was realized. Finally, these journals were searched in the Journal Citation Report, just to know their impact factor. Results showed that the Latin American journals are not included in the most important international databases, and also that the most developed countries have a higher presence in these databases, and that the most outstanding discipline is biomedicine. The article offers suggestions on how to choose books to aid English learners with language acquisition and reading comprehension. The term English learner is used here to represent individuals who are in the process of learning English after learning a first or other language. A few essential elements to consider are: content accessibility, language accessibility, visual accessibility and genre accessibility. Considering the special needs of English learners is important in choosing books more selectively and successfully. Fiction titles that spring from the students' cultures are ideal in providing familiarity for ease of comprehension as well as for identifying with story characters. Once teachers and librarians have enhanced their library collections, they need to call students' attention to the many options available for reading and language learning. After teachers and librarians have sparked student interest, they need to provide a regular time and freedom of choice for students to enjoy the books in the library and continue to add to the collection as students' language proficiencies develop and their reading tastes mature.

The article discusses Internet filtering and individual choice in public libraries in the U.S. Public libraries provide their users with freedom of choice by developing diverse collections of constitutionally protected speech. Individual titles in collections are determined by a selection or collection policy that is adopted by the library's governing body. This body offers opportunities for discussion and input in public meetings. Choices of public library users, however, are not limited to those identified items from the selection policy. When an individual does not find what she or he wants in the library's collection, the library offers interlibrary loan and reference services. Such available choices are usually not limited by the selection policy. Libraries providing, for example, access to online periodicals and reference sources like Information Access Corporation's health, business, and general databases, do not select each available title in the database. The individual, not the library, makes the decision to access materials on the Internet. The library has selected a tool that enables the individual to exercise choice.

The article focuses on several measures taken to provide the contents of the 2009 AEC conference of the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), held in Atlanta, Georgia, to those NEHA members who could not attend the conference because of the current difficult economic times. It states that many of the conference's sessions have been recorded and are being posted to the e-Learning library of courses, and a collection of papers on the H1N1 outbreak is available on the website, www.neha.org. It mentions that the NEHA has set up a special consultant's program which offers members telephone consulting time on any issues they wish to explore with the experts. It also mentions that the NEHA has compiled many of the handouts developed by the conference speakers.
