The advent of technology has facilitated computer based techniques for statistical analysis of data. In addition, the web-based graphical user interface has enabled the development of highly interactive programs. The Distributome project (http: //www.distributome.org) is an open-source, open content-development project for exploring, discovering, navigating, learning, and computational utilization of diverse probability distributions. It provides several interesting functions about probability distributions.In this thesis we present the motivation of Distributome and the detailed design of different parts of the navigator and various tools. Also, an example is provided to show the application of Distributome in statistics education of hypergeometric distribution. Finally, we discuss the future directions of Distributome project, including expanding current tools and designing new features, and adopting the latest web development technology.

Previous research examining the effects of diversity on work outcomes shows mixed results. To better understand relationships between diversity and relevant attitudinal outcomes, the current study investigated four different dimensions of diversity (i.e., actual and perceived surface- and deep-level diversity), thus building on and extending previous work by Harrison et al. (2002). In addition, a social network perspective was adopted to explain how diversity may influence work outcomes, specifically, both informational and friendship network tie strength within a team were tested as possible mediators. Work groups from the US and South Korea were recruited for this study. Some of the diversity dimensions were not only significantly related to each other, but they also correlated as predicted with the outcome variables. Yet interestingly, different diversity dimensions did not always have the same pattern of relations with other variables. These nuanced results highlight the importance of investigating different diversity dimensions. Results also suggested that diversity within a team could hinder the development of strong in-group relationships, potentially affecting attitudinal work outcomes unfavorably. However, findings confirmed the mediating roles of network ties: strong in-group work relationships, consisting of informational or informal friendship networks within a team, buffered the potential negative effects of diversity on various work outcomes. Implications, future suggestions and limitations are discussed.
