- Abstract
The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to understand the relationship between organizational culture on burnout for college counseling center clinicians. Studies have examined the relationship between organizational culture and burnout for mental health clinicians, but none have researched how organizational culture may play a role for clinicians working within higher education. College counseling centers are currently struggling to recruit and retain employees, resulting in many centers being under resourced. This study explored the following research questions: (1.) How do college counseling center clinicians experience burnout as measured by the Counselor Burnout Inventory? (2.) How do college counseling center clinicians experience organizational culture as measured by the Organizational Culture in Mental Health survey? (3.) What background characteristics of counseling center administrative leadership influence burnout of college counseling center clinicians? (4.) What is the relationship between organizational culture and burnout among college counseling center clinicians? If a relationship exists, which areas of organizational culture from the Organizational Culture in Mental Health survey significantly predict burnout among college counseling center clinicians? Results of this research study address the current gaps in literature and serve as an opportunity to support work engagement for mental health clinicians working in college counseling centers. A supportive organizational culture has the ability to contribute to both employee well-being and student well-being.
