The modern urban planning needs to be flexible and take into account the urban environment transformation during the mega-event organization process. Most of the researchers agree that, so called, mega-events have the significant influence on different aspects of the host city's life. Major of them also tend to evaluate the character and the degree of this impact. The research represents quite comprehensive data. The approaches used for selecting and grouping the impact of mega-events are chosen randomly. The authors believe that the appropriate methodology of tracing and classifying the transformation processes caused by mega-events should be applied to avoid the data loss, on the one hand, and, drawing the conclusions based on the data that do not correlate with the mega-event organization process impacts, on the other hand. The research concerns the typology of the elements of the urban environment suggested by the 'Urbanica' Institute of the area planning and can provide the matrix necessary to take into account all the transformation processes connected to the mega-event organization. In this paper, the case of Yekaterinburg as the host city of the FIFA World Cup 2018 is described. As all the host cities transform differently, it is important to elaborate urban environment development strategies based not only on the improperly confirmed conclusions about positive or negative impacts of the mega-events, but on the understanding of the transformation process itself.
