Based on evaluation procedures of pedestrian protection (Euro-New car Assessment Program, Euro-NCAP), using CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) and physical test, the pedestrian head impact safety performance was evaluated. Detailed analysis was done for Key factor which affect the performance of pedestrian head impact. The structure design optimization was performed of the front-end, including Hood, Fender and Cowl top for a SUV car. The final assessment results show that the optimized front-end structure meet the requirements of Euro-NCAP pedestrian protocol, in favor of the pedestrian protection performance improvement. Two pumps supply oil in parallel in the large aircraft. Due to different frequencies of the pumps, the flow field at T-junction of two oil convergence remains unclear. In this paper, the flow field of T-junction pipe was analyzed at two working status using Shear Stress Transport (SST) model and Finite Volume Method (FVM) in ANSYS/CFX. Our simulation identified the variation law of velocity peak at T-junction and it is found that the eddy and velocity shock exists in the corner of the T-junction. Aiming at this problem, an arc-junction was designed to replace the traditional T-junction. Based on the simulation, the eddy disappeared and the maximum of velocity peak decreased than T-junction. However, the curvature radius of the arc is a key factor which affects the fluid confluence, so 8 series of ρ was tested to get the law of the variation of max velocity. The velocity shock and energy loss are two evaluated index, and through simulation the optimal ρ was got, it can be concluded that the velocity shock decreased when ρincreased and the energy loss reached the minimum value at ρ = 32.52mm. Currently, the offshore petroleum in the world is spreading into sea deeper and deeper. Meanwhile, the exploitations of offshore petroleum and gas in China are mainly focusing on the sea area with water depth no more than 300 meters. Technologies and equipments used to deep-water petroleum and gas exploitation are not enough. This paper proposes an active oil-water hydrocyclone separator with three outlets which have good advantages due to its active controllable rotation of whirling cylinder and continuing separation for the oil-water mixed transitional layer. It is difficult to use equipment to reveal directly the fluid field in the screw-type rotating blade. By using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the Reynolds Stress Model (RSM), numerical simulation of the internal flow field of the oil-water separator can be revealed, so some relations between efficiency and performance parameter can be gotten easily. Furthermore, we build an experiment system which is designed to test separation performance, although the final experimental results is not so idealized, we find the difference between experimental data and computational result is little. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used to perform the discrete optimization of reinforced concrete frame(RC) structure subject to combinations of multi-loads based on Chinese design code. The optimum detail design is achieved by constructing the data sets containing different available reinforcement bar diameter in a pre-specified pattern, satisfying the user specified rules for bar and other requirements in provisions. An automatic generating feasible region technique based on local strength constraints is developed to improve the efficiency of genetic algorithm. Finally, the effectiveness and practicality of the optimization technique is illustrated through an actual application to the design of a 22-story frame building structure. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Side doors are important parts of a vehicle, whose strength has big influence for the structure of the car and hence the safety of the passengers. Chinese National Regulation (GB15743-1995) has clear requirements for car doors and their testing processes. In this paper, we analyze the characteristic structure of the car door and study specifically on the structure of door beam and its influence for door strength. A finite element model of vehicle for door impact is created. We analyze the result by LS-DYNA software and validate the efficiency of this model through door impact test. The result shows that the initial crush resistance is less than the value required by national regulation. Through optimization of the cross structure of the door beam, the strength of side door is improved, and the result satisfies the requirement of the regulation. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Based on the basic principles of group search optimizer (GSO) algorithm, an optimal algorithm, aimed at improving the efficiency of structural optimization, named quick group search optimizer (QGSO), is presented and successfully applied to the optimal design of a large double layer grid shell structure. The calculation result is compared with that of GSO algorithm and heuristic particle swarm optimizer (HPSO) algorithm. Three improvements, including increasing the number of ‘ranger’ when the target stops going forward, using the search strategy of particle swarm optimizer (PSO) by considering the best group member and the best personal member, employing the step search strategy to replace the visual search strategy, and reproducing the ‘ranger’ with hybrid of the best group member and the best personal member, were introduced. Deep brain stimulation has been demonstrated as an effective treatment for various locomotion disorders; however, the stimulating mechanism by which these high frequency electrical pulses intertwined with the geometry of electrode act on neuronal activity is unclear. Finite element analytic model of electrode in deep brain stimulation was established in this paper to investigate the impact of changes of electrode contact geometry on the cerebral electric field. The computational calculation showed that electrode contact configuration not only determined the stimulation position of electrode in the deep brain, but also played an important role on stimulated tissue area and stimulated field strength, which can provide more practical design rule for the electrode in deep brain stimulation.
