The current policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic is aimed to large-scale expansion of the resource base in the region, development of economic sectors and construction of infrastructure facilities. The implementation of these ambitious projects requires recruitment of qualified labor resources to the region and attractive social and labor conditions. In the article, the current state of the socio-labor sphere of the northern region is considered on the example of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) as one of the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation. Factors of economic development and state of socio-labor sphere in the northern region are characterized on the base of the analysis of state statistics, the results of the sociological survey of employment and unemployment in the population of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the results of an expert survey of managers and human resources specialists of the enterprises of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Conclusions concerning the degree of compliance of the socio-labor sphere parameters in the republic with the objectives of the state policy for the industrial and economic development of the North are drawn.
