Multifunctional devices are employed in office networks for functionality and comfort, most often considered only as peripheral devices enabling the printing, copying and scanning of documents. Based on a study performed by InfoTrends in 2013 in the USA and Western Europe, the majority of people surveyed are of the opinion that computers pose the biggest security threats of all technological devices (Forbes, 2017a). In many cases, users of multifunctional devices do not realise that a multifunctional device is also a network device which have similar vulnerabilities, whereby the security threats relating to these devices are often overlooked. This paper provides an overview of the physical and network security risks relating to networked multifunctional devices. It includes a number of experiments and tests performed on multifunctional devices, security analysis, discussions on possible exploits as well as recommendations on various security measures. This paper could serve as a high-level guideline when installing multifunctional devices in a network environment and informing administrators and users of the security risks associated with installation and daily use. Testing of embedded devices is a big challenge in a changing and competitive technical environment, as testing of one embedded application is not similar to another. For testing of embedded system generic middleware, device driver and operating systems are required and ruled over target hardware for the execution. Companies developing products based on embedded systems understand the fact that high quality and unique application software plays an important role in the differentiation of their products from their competitors. This generic interface can test the various services of the embedded system, and supports unit test and integration test which are based system testing technology. By using generic interface in the target embedded platform to do testing the results show that our constructed testing interface is workable. In this paper we present a middleware named Smart Print to provide cloud print service in office, where many heterogeneous networks exist. The goal of the system is to shield the communication heterogeneity of the devices in the office and make authorized users freely connect to all the printers with no modification on their terminals. Smart Print can manages all the printers in an office building, and it provides friendly service for the users who know nothing about the printers. Smart Print can also automatically choose printers for the office staffs. We propose and implement two printer allocation methods, one aims to improve the experience of the user with short print job, and the other is a multiple attributes decision algorithm which considers all factors including spatial information that impact the user experiences. In this article, it was designed a 14C-UBT analyzer for diagnosing Helicobacter pylori infection non-invasively. It detects 14C activity by CO2 collecting card in thin-window Geiger-Müller counters. The minimum effective activity of 14C, the instrument properties about accuracy and repeatability of diagnosing Hp infection, and the radiation dose of one single test has been discussed. Proper access to World Wide Web has emerged as an essential need for all kinds of groups in society. There is no apparent alternative to it in most disciplines where it is highly involved. Therefore it is crucial to make the World Wide Web accessible for every person regardless of his or her capabilities, social status, purchasing power, etc. One potential group that can be discriminated with regards to web accessibility is visually impaired because of the strong tendency of web sites and applications towards visual consumption. In recent years various bodies have been emphasizing the need for making web friendlier to visually impaired people, which resulted in generating a significant pressure on web content providers. On one side, laws are being imposed that strengthen visually impaired people to prompt legal action against organizations that ignore them. On the other hand social value systems have changed so that the value of a business can depend on the degree of support offered towards differently abled people. The challenge in making web content more accessible for visually impaired have been attacked in different fronts. Major software platform providers have included lot of supportive features such as voice capabilities in their products. Web development agencies also have started paying attention on accessibility during the development process. This paper includes a study on different types of visual impairments and recommended means of addressing them. It also sheds light on guidelines for developing web sites and applications that are friendly to visually impaired. This paper is an early report of our continuing effort to provide a platform-independent framework so that information originators and security administrators can specify access rights to information consistently and completely, and that this specification is then rigorously enforced. To accomplish this objective it is necessary to link a security policy model to a policy language with sufficient expressive power to ensure logical consistency. For the purposes of this research we are using a modified Attribute-Role-Based Access Control (ARBAC) security model and the Web Ontology Language (OWL) with additional rules in a logic programming framework to express access policy, going beyond the limitations of previous attempts in this vein. In addition we are developing a mechanism using knowledge compilation techniques that allows access policy constraint checking to be implemented in real-time, via a bit-vector encoding that can be used for rapid run-time reasoning. Consumer devices increasingly are “smart” and hence offer services that can interwork with and/or be controlled by others. However, the full exploitation of the inherent opportunities this offers, is hurdled by a number of potential limitations. First of all, the interface towards the device might be vendor and even device specific, implying that extra effort is needed to support a specific device. Standardization efforts try to avoid this problem, but within a certain standard ecosystem the level of interoperability can vary (i.e. devices carrying the same standard logo are not necessarily interoperable). Secondly, different application domains (e.g. multimedia vs. energy management) today have their own standards, thus limiting trans-sector innovation because of the additional effort required to integrate devices from traditionally different domains into novel applications. In this paper, we discuss the basic components of current so-called service discovery protocols (SDPs) and present our DYAMAND (DYnamic, Adaptive MAnagement of Networks and Devices) framework. We position this framework as a middleware layer between applications and discoverable/controllable devices, and hence aim to provide the necessary tool to overcome the (intra- and inter-domain) interoperability gaps previously sketched. Proxies can be used as gateways between remote resources and mobile devices to deal with the challenges resulted from disconnections and the limited resources of mobile devices. This paper describes a proxy-based infrastructure that provides proxy services to support mobile device applications. Proxy services can be thought of as a library of functions where the functions execute on a proxy and serve as a bridge between client application on the mobile device and remote services. The infrastructure allows for a dynamic association of a proxy with a mobile device that takes into account the proximity between the mobile device and proxy and the mobility of the client mobile device. Furthermore, proxies are chosen dynamically and the services provided by a proxy are dynamically changing based on the requirements of the clients for a better resource utilization. Several experiments are carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed infrastructure. This work presents a method based on the image content for digital halftoning using K-means clustering theory. Our algorithm applies to both a printer model and a model for the human visual system (HVS). First, the gray image is partitioned into two, three and four regions using K-means image segmentation method. Next, Each clustering uses the least-squares model-based(Lsmb) algorithm to obtain halftone image. Finally, analysis and simulation results show that the proposed algorithm produces better gray-scale halftone image quality when we increase the number of clustering with a certain range. The value of PSNR for two partitions is almost the same as that of the Lsmb algorithm, but for three and four partitions that the proposed algorithm achieves consistently better values of PSNR than the Lsmb algorithm. We describe the design, implementation, and evaluation of a comparative book reader that supports the scholarly activities deemed most important by cultural history scholars. A filmstrip metaphor allows rapid access to various components of the books. Parallel filmstrips allow comparison among multiple copies of the same title to fill in for missing pages or other maladies, and to study page-level annotations to help in interpreting the content. Playing the filmstrips allow the scholar to search for or discover items of interest by watching the pages of the books flow past. The need for a canonical book and possibly multiple "Frankenbooks" is described and the implementation is given. The architecture of the tool and the programming methodology are also described. In this paper, a novel Coplanar Wire-Patch (CWP) antenna for 2.5 GHz applications is presented. This antenna has been fabricated using inkjet-printing technology on a flexible, low-cost paper substrate using a simple, fast and cheap process compared to the photolithography technology. We have been investigating point-to-multipoint wireless communication suitable for the use inside ICT (Information and Communication Technology) equipments to accommodate demands for weight saving, environmental lifecycle CO2 reduction and improvement of assembly/ maintenance efficiency by means of replacing communication wire harnesses with wireless technology, i.e., wireless harness. Through the radio propagation measurements inside four equipments of automatic teller machine (ATM), ticket vendor, vending machine, and printer, a consistent specification applicable to them has been determined. Based on this specification, a test wireless system has been developed. It showed good performance even inside the ATM, that has the most lossy environment among the four equipments we tested. This paper describes the students' awareness regarding the methods employed to mitigate the negative impact of computers on the environment. Several topics considered important by the students were analyzed — transforming computers into recyclable waste, increasing users' awareness toward extending computer lifetime, encouraging the reuse of old and obsolete computers, employing new ecological materials in computers from the perspective of future engineers and protection of computers against accidental damage. The conducted research activities were based on the PBL (Problem based Learning) method. The main goal of the project envisages the analysis and the simulation of computer over-voltage protection systems. Inspired by work on model-based design of printers, the notion of a parametrized partial order (PPO) was introduced recently. PPOs are a simple extension of partial orders, expressive enough to compactly represent large task graphs with repetitive behavior. We present a translation of the PPO subclass to timed automata and prove that the transition system induced by the Uppaal models is isomorphic to the configuration structure of the original PPO. Moreover, we report on a series of experiments which demonstrates that the resulting Uppaal models are more tractable than handcrafted models of the same systems used in earlier case studies. In the context of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs), the integration of services is an important aspect that is usually addressed by using specific tools, such as Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). In this paper we propose a framework to perform service integration building on the extension of service interfaces, capturing a class of service integrators that are decoupled from the services they integrate in an SOA. We show how our service integrators can be used in practice by evaluating our approach with Jolie, a service-oriented programming language. For manufacturers of consumer products the Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) has emerged as an approach to quantify the environmental impact resulting from product-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions expressed as carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalents. GHGs are emitted throughout all stages of the product life cycle. This paper conceptualizes a production-related Carbon Footprint of IT-Services (CFIS), which focusses only on CO2 emissions induced by the energy consumption of ICT resources operated in data centers. In order to set the scope of the production-related CFIS, we propose an approach that combines IT-Service lifecycle known from ITILv3 and product lifecycles of ICT resources. Within described limitations, parameters and measurement approaches to assess energy consumption of ICT resources are presented as a condition for a cause-fair allocation of consumed energy to IT-Services. In this paper, an optimal scheduler for a printer is presented. The scheduling is based on the max-plus modeling framework. It allows to model scheduling of multiple sheets as discrete events in a system described by max-plus linear statespace equations. The optimal scheduler uses the feeding and handling time of each sheet as the design variables. It is shown that the proposed method successfully finds the globally optimal schedule for different types of the sheets. The paper discusses economic performance design under nonlinear dynamic behavior and changing operating conditions. Two methods to control plants with input-induced nonlinearities in the presence of hard constraints are presented. A nonlinear predictive controller is designed based on a nonlinear dynamic parameter-dependent model of the system for tracking control. Next a decomposition of the model of the plant is made which allows nonlinear optimal static feedforward and linear dynamic feedback. Model predictive control (MPC) was selected to control the transients while satisfying all constraints without loss of performance. The control scheme has been applied on an industrial printing system. In this paper, a new Parameterized Iterative Learning Controller (PILC) is discussed. A fixed structure feedforward controller is put into a setting for iterative learning control and adapted to work in a repetitive environment. The fixed structure keeps the number of inline calculations low and enables proper adjustment to changing tasks. Within the ILC setting, suitable compensations can be found in a variable environment and specific penalties can be given to errors in trial domain. Further, by taking into account possible interaction between the trials, the PILC works properly with changing initial conditions over the trials. Problem of altering content of faxed document extends in wider range including in Thailand. Since most companies/organizations in Thailand use only one fax machine for common use in each department to reduce the telephone payment and complexity of fax management, someone with malicious intention may get a faxed document directly and personally from fax machine, and then alter the content inside for his/her benefits. In this paper, such problem is addressed, and an integrity verification method of Thai content for faxed document based on MAC algorithm is proposed to detect changes in its content. Our proposed method can be applied to both traditional machine based faxing and Internet fax & fax software. Electrical appliances such as computers, printers, scanners, inverters and converters are non-linear loads, where their current and voltage relations are not linear. The existence of non-linear loads in electric power system will cause interference, disturbance, overheating and even permanent damage to some sensitive electronic equipment. This research was current harmonic measurement and computation on an induction generator. The measurements were performed using a Clamp On Power Tester and a digital oscilloscope, to view the FFT spectrum. The non-linear loads were using monitor, printer, energy-saving lamps and fluorescent lamp THD measurement results were obtained where the burden voltage was remained on 220 V. On the energy saving and fluorescent lamps, the harmonic range was 0.5%–45% while on the monitor and printer loads, its range was 10%–85%. In recent years, several companies and researchers focused on evaluating the impacts of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technologies on supply chain performance. This paper deals with the introduction of an RFID technology in an entity where printers are Configured-To-Order (CTO). The objective is to evaluate the impact of this technology on system performances such as resource utilization, cycle time and yield. Therefore, we developed a model of discrete event simulation using Automod and we made a comparison between a baseline scenario and an RFID scenario. Results show that RFID shortens cycle times, increases yield, and creates imbalance of processing times that should be corrected by rethinking resource allocation. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This article reports the silver paste printing onto LTCC substrates at sub-100µm linewidths using a microengineered electroformed dual layer stencil. It is demonstrated that such a stencil can serve as a screen replacement and print tracks of line widths down to 40µms with a gap of 25µm. Two commercially available Ag pastes designed for either screen printing tracks or stencil printing vias were analyzed to gain insight into what material properties are best suited for fine line printing using a dual layer stencil. It is shown that the same stencil and paste material can be used to fill in vias down to 200µm diameter for ceramic green tapes of 50µm thickness indicating that these line printing and via filling processes could be combined, allowing thereby increased throughput, resolution and registration benefit in LTCC manufacture. In the traditional reliable system, a simple reboot of failed service is not the optimal solution for higher reliability. This state would be lost and all clients that were using the service would be affected, if a service which maintains client-related information is rebooted blindly. Based on Minix3, we proposed a new crash-only software model which uses lightweight persistence of state, accordance of process state, transparency of faults and occasion of crash-only to mitigate the problem of state loss during a reboot. This model also significantly confines error propagation within client-related state maintained by an OS service. According to this model, we implemented a new crash-only printer driver. The computer market demands that companies develop families of software products that can be scaled to meet the functional and performance needs of the personal and business computer markets. To support a family of LaserJet printer products, Hewlett-Packard defined the multi platform parallel development model for software development. This model allows HP to simultaneously develop a family of LaserJet printers that have different features and run on different processors, while shortening the development. We discuss our experiences using a technique called conditional compilation, within the multi platform parallel development model, to create portable, scaleable software systems. We describe and share a new tool that was developed to help understand code containing conditional compilation. IMS is the subsystem proposed by 3GPP which supplies IP multimedia services, meeting the trend of integrating of communication networks. The common function of an IMS terminal includes data communication (instant message),multimedia communication (video and audio calling) and presence. Document-sharing application is based on the whiteboard application, of course, it is a bright spot of whiteboard features, the combination of them are increasingly affected by the companies and enterprises. Using the Precision Time synchronization Protocol (PTP), a desktop computer can synchronize to the Grand Master. It is the first time synchronization in the sub-microsecond (10−6s) range is achieved. We have proposed a 3D object tracking framework with a Coarse-to-Fine combination strategy for robot vision applications. In the coarse step, compared with those edge-based only methods, the convergence range of initial camera pose estimation has been enlarged in our system by a template-based matching between a series of template images rendered from Computer Graphics (CG) and a current image. In the fine step an edge-based object tracking method is used to realize a more accurate visual tracking application with the results from the previous coarse step. In the video, two experiments have been carried out to evaluate our proposed template-based matching method using CG images. This paper applies chaos theory to innovation processes, highlighting nonlinear behavior and temporal dynamics in the process of substitution of old and established technologies with the newly created ones. We employed two independent but complementary mathematical tools, local Hurst exponent (LHE) and local Lyapunov exponent (LLE), to develop our model of analysis and define the edge of chose. To illustrate our ideas, we analyzed the development of printers during 1976~2012 period using patent application data. The results of the chaotic models were matched against the profiles of patent citation data to provide a triangulated explanation. We developed a personal Web3D system more than a decade which consists of 1) simple measuring method of 3D objects, 2) automatic annotation system, 3) efficient viewer, and 4) 3D object analyzing technique. Recently, we extended the system with 3D animation. With the system, not only 3D objects are automatically animated with predetermined parameters along single time-line, but also an interactive operation on asynchronous motion is realized. To achieve this, we propose a state transition model considering a state of 3D object linked with 3D animation.
