The article presents a study on the course keeping ability of a water-jet propelled high speed vessel using model tests. The bow drop phenomena may be the main cause of course instability. This phenomena make the vessel lose the course keeping ability by moving the lateral center of pressure toward the bow. It concludes that a model can improve the course stability by changing the transom wedge angle. It also shows that appendages at the stern may be effective to improve the course stability.
