The main focus of this paper is to investigate the impact of publications read (saved) by the different users in Mendeley in order to explore the extent to which their readership counts correlate with their citation indicators. The potential of filtering highly cited papers by Mendeley readerships and its different users have been also explored. For the analysis of the users, we have considered the information of the top three Mendeley 'users' reported by the Mendeley. Our results show that publications with Mendeley readerships tend to have higher citation and journal citation scores than publications without readerships. 'Biomedical & health sciences' and 'Mathematics and computer science' are the fields with respectively the most and the least readership activity in Mendeley. PhD students have the highest density of readerships per publication and Lecturers and Librarians have the lowest across all the different fields. Our precision-recall analysis indicates that in general, for publications with at least one reader in Mendeley, the capacity of readerships of filtering highly cited publications is better than (or at least as good as) Journal Citation Scores. We discuss the important limitation of Mendeley of only reporting the top three readers and not all of them in the potential development of indicators based on Mendeley and its users. A new approach is studied to calibrate a low-cost, microelectromechanical system (MEMS) triaxial accelerometer. The accelerometer is modeled as a linear system with inter-axis misalignment correction. Mathematically, at least nine different equations, equivalent to nine positions of an accelerometer, are needed to solve for nine unknowns (3 scale factors, 3 zero bias, 3 misalignment angles). However, a new approach is studied to minimize the number of positions needed. Three new linear equations corresponding to each axis are formulated. To validate the equations, a triaxial accelerometer was positioned at twelve known orientations and its outputs were measured. All possible combination of positions were attempted iteratively. Singularity is identified using the principle of matrix rank. Results from twelve positions and six positions were almost identical, suggesting that six positions are adequate to solve nine unknowns. Lower limb prosthetic alignment is time consuming and subjective, i.e. dependant to the experience of the prosthetists and feedbacks from the amputees. Alignment settings differ from one prosthetist to another. On the other hand, researchers believe that there is an optimum alignment for each amputee. Proper alignment is vital to provide sufficient gait function and comfort. Instrumental gait analysis is crucial to provide scientific data about the effect of alignment. However, commercial gait monitoring systems are expensive. To assess the effect of alignment, the author demonstrates the design and development of a low-cost gait measurement system to acquire kinematic information using inertial measurement units (IMUs). A heuristic approach to interpret IMU outputs during motion was proposed. Feasibility test of the system showed that critical gait events such as Heel Contact (HC) and Push-Off (PO) could be identified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
