This paper confirms the operational limit and breakdown threshold of low voltage dc-dc converters (LDCs), which are a key component of electric vehicles (xEVs) systems, proposes a highly accelerated life test (HALT) method for predicting the operational lifetime of LDC, and analyzes the experimental results. HALT is the most effective test process for predicting the operational limit and breakdown threshold of products. Especially, for vehicle component HALT, the operational environment and product characteristics must be understood and the test method should be designed. Although LDC is a brand new key component for xEVs, designing the rational test process remains difficult since there are only a few research cases. In this paper, HALT has been implemented to take account of the electrical performance and operational characteristics under the real development process of an LDC. The prototypes are 1.5 kW class LDCs which are applied to the HEV in mass production, and the test has been carried out considering the condition of real vehicle installation and operational conditions. Through the test results, the upper operating limit (UOL) and lower operating limit (LOL) are identified, and the electrical mechanism which generates the operational limit is analyzed. Electrolysis ballast water treatment with effective disinfection effects has been receiving more attentions compared to other methods. Conventional electrolysis ballast water treatment is vulnerable to thermal control and has a disadvantage in size. It is also less flexible due to the all-in-one structure. This paper describes the development of an electrolysis ballast water treatment system using power conversion devices. The power conversion device was developed as a 20kW class module types with very high installation flexibility in order to respond easily to ship structure and demand capacity. This paper explains the electrical characteristics of the applied circuit and the operational principle by simulations and experiments. This paper reports the development of power recycle type test bed for aging test applied to Hyundai Motor's LPI AVANTE HEV in mass production. In the general aging test of LDC, the external input power is required and output power is burned by heat through the load device. Accordingly, solutions to reduce input power installation cost and get rid of load heat consumption during aging test are required. Therefore, this study introduces the way to reuse input of LDC by recycling output power of LDC. The developed power recycle type test bed is designed as 1.5kW class to test up to the maximum load power of LDC and is also designed to supply scant power supply up to 500W after power recycle. This paper reports the theoretical design analysis and operational characteristics analysis results of test bed and verifies the practicality and reliability of it through the test result. In this paper, the loss analysis simulation platform including power semiconductor devices and magnetic elements is proposed. Concept of the platform is described and thermal module used to calculate the loss of power semiconductor devices in PSIM is explained. Using the design data of inductors and transformers, loss of inductors and transformers is calculated and loss calculating algorithm of magnetics is composed in the PSIM. This paper reports that development cases of charger with various charging functions. The developed charger has functions of temperature compensation charging mode, pulse charging mode, trickle charging control, reverse connecting protection and it can recycle the battery which is the performance degradation by converting charge and discharge mode. In addition, the proposed charger structure is designed as module method consisting of control, charge, and discharge parts so it is excellent in extension and can be set with various modes by control module. This paper carries out feasibility study of DC home appliance in appropriate of DC power supply system. For this purpose, the difference of structure and safety between AC and DC home appliance is comparatively analyzed, and the countermeasures against predicted problems are suggested in advance. The power simulator of general specifications is designed for comprehensive evaluation. Under this experimental test-bed, the possibility of DC home appliance with these countermeasures is verified. Integrated battery charger (IBC), which uses the already available propulsion system, has a lot of advantages such as low cost and minimum space for the high voltage battery charger. However, it needs to compensate some defects caused by it's structure. In this paper, shortcomings of the conventional IBC for PHEVs with interior permanent magnet motors are discussed, and two modified IBCs for better performance are proposed. Performance comparison among three IBCs is carried out; compared with the conventional IBC, two modified IBCs have many strengths like low common noise, simple sensing methods, high efficiency, and so on. This paper describes the process of the design of resonant network through power losses analysis of full-bridge series resonant converter in a high efficiency 3.3kW on-board battery charger application for electric vehicles. The losses of switching devices and passive components with transformer are analyzed theoretically by considering losses in the charging area of high voltage Li-ion battery. In addition, theoretical procedures based on losses analysis are possible to optimal design of resonant network in series resonant converter for on-board battery charger application. The parameters and result of the process can be used for analyzing the variation of size and losses.
