The Savu Sea is a body of water located between the islands of Savu and Rai Jua in the south, the islands of Rote and Timor in the east, Flores and the Alor Islands in the north, and the island of Sumba in the west. There is a discrepancy between sea surface temperature (SST) and wind speed in the Savu Sea. Previous research studied a similar phenomenon in the South Java Sea, the SST in South Java is affected by upwelling, specifically due to Ekman Mass Transport (EMT) and Ekman Pumping Velocity (EPV). Another study has reviewed the EPV in the Savu Sea but has not presented its spatial distribution. This study aims to complement the research and to carry out an analytical approach such as the phenomenon in the South Java Sea, namely by reviewing EMT and EPV in the Savu Sea and get a better understanding of how wind speed, EMT, and EPV played a role on the SST in the Savu Sea. This study used SST data from high-resolution satellite image (GHRSST), solar radiation data from the ERA5 satellite, and wind data from the scatterometer satellite (ASCAT MetOp A) processed using composite methods and temporal correlation. Based on the results of this study, the decreasing SST in several months was on account of the increasing wind speed. SST cooling in the south of Sumba island is significantly affected by EMT dynamics which may trigger coastal upwelling. SST cooling in the southwest of Flores island is affected by EMT and EPV. SST cooling in the south of the Alor Islands is less affected by EMT or EPV. The rising SST in the Savu Sea is greatly influenced by the increasing intensity of solar radiation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
