Abstract

Chemical behaviour of group 5 elements in the aqueous hydrofluoric acid solutions was studied. The radiochemical method for the cation exchange separation of Nb (Pa) and Ta from Zr, Hf and lanthanides is presented. The developed scheme allows excluding of the presence of SF heavy actinides in fractions of separated elements. On the basis of the data of the present work, it is possible to suggest the following order of the stability of the fluoride complexes of group 4 and 5 elements: Nb ≈ Pa > Zr > Hf > Ta. The order of the complex formation is in agreement with theoretical predictions. This analytical procedure can be used in future heavy nuclei synthesis experiments for the separation of dubnium (Db) from other reactions products and for its chemical identification. © 2007 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The article focuses on the radiochemical separation of zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf) through cation exchange chromatography as a prerequisite for the chemical identification. The Zr and Hf were used by researchers as group 4 homologues of lutecium and rutherfordium and as model element for actinides and strontium for the chemical procedures. According to the author, the final data analysis and the comparison between the mentioned elements are mandatory in complex speciation.

Abstract

Fusion-evaporation cross sections were calculated for the 48Ca+204–208Pb and 50Ti+206,208Pb reactions and compared with the existing experimental data of the Dubna and GSI groups. The survival probabilities of the compound Z = 102 and Z = 104 nuclei formed in these reactions were calculated using a Monte Carlo program based on the conventional Bohr-Wheeler theory of fission and statistical model of particle evaporation with Reisdorf-Ignatyuk prescription for the level densities and Strutinsky shell corrections of Möller et al. “Empirical” magnitudes of the dynamical hindrance of fusion have been deduced for these reactions. © 2006 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The effect of the nuclear shell structure on the heavy-ion fusion reaction was investigated for the reaction systems 82Se + 138Ba, 82Se + 134Ba, 16O + 204Pb, 86Kr + 134Ba, 86Kr + 138Ba, and 82Se + nat.Ce. Evaporation residues for these fusion reactions were measured using a recoil mass separator (JAERI-RMS) near Coulomb barrier region. The measured evaporation residue cross sections for the reactions 82Se + 138Ba and 86Kr + 138Ba were two orders of magnitude and one order of magnitude larger than those for the reaction 82Se + 134Ba and 86Kr + 134Ba, respectively, at the excitation energy region of 10 ∼ 30 MeV. The evaporation residue cross sections were compared with those of the other reaction systems that make the same or similar compound nuclei as the present reaction systems. It was found that the evaporation residue cross sections correlate strongly with the sum of the shell energies for both projectile and target nuclei, i.e., the evaporation residue cross sections increase as the sum of the shell energy decreases. © 2004 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
