By steady scientific research carried out in the last decades was possible to register wanted technological advance oriented also to succeed in shaping sustainable smart cities. Nowadays several cities on European level and not only are starting the implementation of smart city design strategies, which are foremostly developed by access to needed databases as well as by specific approaches related to location intelligence supporting by this shaping appropriate policies on local level. Smart cities imply effective integration of physical, digital, and human systems to ensure a wanted sustainable, and prosperous future for their citizens. Location intelligence represents the ability to visualize spatial data to identify and analyze relationships and trends on local level, answering questions regarding available infrastructure, as well as roads with highest priority for maintenance by minimizing potential traffic disruptions. The more location intelligence offers diverse odds for an efficient urban planning by considering precise historical and present traffic patterns with the goal of designing short- and longterm urban development strategies for the benefit of citizens. The five Green Initiatives for Location Intelligence will be presented as well as a case study as an application example of applying location intelligence in a Romanian city with the goal of assuring best strategies for shaping sustainable smart cities.
