We study magnetism of C60 films prepared by the discrete evaporation in a quasi-closed volume and irradiated by protons within the energy range 20 – 95 keV. Structural changes are studied by Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Whereas the proton bombardment does not produce noticeable changes in the surface AFM-morphology, the irradiated regions show pronounced magnetic structure as seen by means of magnetic force microscopy (MFM). The intrinsic nature of the MFM-images follows from the fact that the MFM-images are sensitive to the scanning height, the type of magnetic tip, reversal of magnetization of the tip, and are modified after application of magnetic field. © 2005 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
