Higher education is increasingly universal and international universities are becoming globalized les, driven dynamics of higher education and research. Now, this reality has driven the need to measure the performance of the activities of the universities. While it is true that there are many ways to evaluate the quality and prestige of an Institution of Higher Education-IES-, currently has a special interest in measurement studies that rank universities according to criteria and methodologies of each study and that has led to great debates and discussions on the measurements and results. Thus, the rankings and their classification and categorization systems based on parameters and quantitative and qualitative indicators that attempt to measure the quality of university education, research grade, prestige and other aspects of academic activity, becoming a global phenomenon, and a point of reference for decision-making, promote competition, obtain resources, funding, cooperation, national and international accreditations, and in some cases, become a reference in the context of the design of public policies and reforms institutional. In this sense, a ranking should provide useful information and, while promoting competition among higher education institutions, establish the basis for granting accreditations and quality marks, facilitate marketing of institutions and curricula, stimulate creation of centers of excellence and providing additional reasons for the investment of funds. From the above, we proceed to identify the major international rankings, in order to highlight the characteristics, features, criteria, indicators and methodology and get the vision of its classification system and from it, analyze the presence of academic production of the University of Carabobo in measurements. It is important to emphasize that only those initiatives are considered major attention in academic and endorsed by prestigious institutions.

Efficient lighting is a goal for energy efficiency and sustainable development. There are designs for electrically powered public lighting fixtures with solar panels installed in hard-to-reach areas or protected areas without an electrical power supply network. In this paper, a LED luminaire has been modeled by solving the heat equation using a heat source (LED 50W) to observe its behavior. The simulations were developed at ambient temperatures of 24°C and 35°C. It is important because these luminaires are installed in areas with this usual temperature, for example, the Ecuadorian Amazon or the Galapagos Islands. 51.7°C was obtained in LED for an ambient temperature of 24°C, which is the normal laboratory case, and 62.5°C in LED for an ambient temperature of 35°C. These results must be analyzed since it has a direct impact on the expected life of the luminaire and therefore on the maintenance and replacement plans. Through the results obtained, it was determined by Arrhenius model a reduction of 160 days in the maintenance plan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Image superresolution involves the processing of an image sequence to generate a still image with higher resolution. Classical approaches, such as bayesian MAP methods, require iterative minimization procedures, with high computational costs. Recently, the authors proposed a method to tackle this problem, based on the use of a hybrid MLP-PNN architecture. In this paper, we present a novel superresolution method, based on an evolution of this concept, to incorporate the use of local image models. A neural processing stage receives as input the value of model coefficients on local windows. The data dimension-ality is firstly reduced by application of PCA. An MLP, trained on synthetic se-quences with various amounts of noise, estimates the high-resolution image data. The effect of varying the dimension of the network input space is exam-ined, showing a complex, structured behavior. Quantitative results are presented showing the accuracy and robustness of the proposed method.
