Higher education is increasingly universal and international universities are becoming globalized les, driven dynamics of higher education and research. Now, this reality has driven the need to measure the performance of the activities of the universities. While it is true that there are many ways to evaluate the quality and prestige of an Institution of Higher Education-IES-, currently has a special interest in measurement studies that rank universities according to criteria and methodologies of each study and that has led to great debates and discussions on the measurements and results. Thus, the rankings and their classification and categorization systems based on parameters and quantitative and qualitative indicators that attempt to measure the quality of university education, research grade, prestige and other aspects of academic activity, becoming a global phenomenon, and a point of reference for decision-making, promote competition, obtain resources, funding, cooperation, national and international accreditations, and in some cases, become a reference in the context of the design of public policies and reforms institutional. In this sense, a ranking should provide useful information and, while promoting competition among higher education institutions, establish the basis for granting accreditations and quality marks, facilitate marketing of institutions and curricula, stimulate creation of centers of excellence and providing additional reasons for the investment of funds. From the above, we proceed to identify the major international rankings, in order to highlight the characteristics, features, criteria, indicators and methodology and get the vision of its classification system and from it, analyze the presence of academic production of the University of Carabobo in measurements. It is important to emphasize that only those initiatives are considered major attention in academic and endorsed by prestigious institutions.
