Abstract

Recently, many researchers pay more attention to the emission estimation during the construction phase. They use simulation-based life cycle assessment (LCA) to analyze the construction processes. The input data of this evaluation process has been usually manual, time- consuming, and error-prone. Therefore, most emissions estimates were inaccurate. It is envisaged that with the aid of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies that are featured by semantic-rich data and information, the emission estimation can be significantly improved. An ideal BIM model typically encompasses information that ranges across building design, construction, and operation details. However, it lacks domain semantics in connection with extracting environmental-oriented construction information. This study aims to develop a BIM-based ontology for augmenting the simulation-based LCA method. Firstly, the proposed ontology's classes and object properties are formulated in the Protege environment to be suitable for emission assessment by the LCA method. Secondly, BIM data is extracted from a Revit model using the Revit application programming interface (API) and dotNetRDF to gen- erate the ontology's individuals and their data properties. Abstract

The increase in transport demand has been proportional to the number of internal combustion engines, resulting in an increasing level of environmental pollution from engine exhaust, while petroleum-based fuels are going to be at risk of complete depletion in the next 100 years. Using alternative fuels is considered an effective solution to reduce emissions and diversify fuel sources. Hydrogen fuel is seen as an emerging candidate for alternative fuel sources because of its high flammability, high octane value, very clean combustion products, and a renewable fuel source. Therefore, using hydrogen as a fuel additive for internal combustion engines is attracting a lot of researches, especially solutions that use catalysts to generate hydrogen-rich gases by utilizing exhaust heat. This paper focuses on the evaluation of typical hydrogen-rich gas generation methods such as water electrolysis, biomass gasification, and hydrothermal hydrogen carbon fuel. Moreover, by analyzing and evaluating solutions to improve the efficiency of the hydrogen-rich catalyst with different catalysts, it is shown that the efficiency of generating hydrogen-rich gas of each catalyst. Finally, the study proposes several recommendations for applying hydrogen-rich catalysts to traditional combustion engines: (1) Ni/Al2O3 and Mo2C can achieve high fuel conversion efficiency when the catalyst temperature is greater than 700°C; (2) The addition of Pd to the Ni/Al2O3 catalytic system, the hydrogen conversion efficiency reaches 92% and the catalyst durability increases; (3) The addition of Ce, Mo, Cu/CeO2 to Ni / Al2O3 system helps to improve fuel conversion efficiency at low temperatures. Abstract

The article presents a study on the pressure exerted by solitary waves attacks on the rubble mound foundation of armoured caisson breakwaters. It observes that the load exerted by the caisson on the foundation depends on several factors including the water depth in front of it, the shape of the armour layers and whether the wave hits the caisson or armour layer first. In addition, it reveals that the presence of armour, especially a failed or partially constructed armour layer, may cause instability of the caisson.

Abstract

With the increasing programmability and fast-paced dynamics of modern wireless systems, it has become more difficult to gain timely insights into wireless network operations. In this demonstration1 we present WiART, an augmented reality framework to help visualize and interact with wireless network activities in real time. WiART collects real-time radio and network statistics from participating network devices and depicts them on users' mobile devices in an intuitive way, leveraging the virtual information overlay of augmented reality. Specifically in our current implementation, WiART takes inputs from a cognitive radio link controlling beam-steerable reconfigurable antennas and annotates on a live mobile screen the active pre-measured radiation patterns. In the reverse flow, WiART enables users to select desired antenna radiation patterns directly in the mobile app and observe their effects on link performance in real time. These capabilities add an unprecedented level of instant visualization and interaction with wireless activities and provides valuable insights into the dynamics of a reconfigurable antenna-based cognitive radio network.
