Abstract

Organizations seek to deploy resources optimally to meet customer demand. In the case of an educational institution offering degree programs, student demand for course offerings may be satisfied by deploying faculty resources according to a long-term course schedule aka the Typical Course Offering Pattern (TCOP). In previous work [Madan and Gnanendran (2020)], we have proposed a project management approach that views each student's pathway through the program as a "project" requiring completion of a set of tasks (courses) with each task having a specific duration (semester) and, possibly, precedence requirements (prerequisites). To make this problem tractable, the approach suggested looking at the problem in the aggregate (i.e., considering cohorts rather than individual students), akin to the well-known Sales & Operations Planning model. The scheduling problem is then equivalent to multi-project management where the institution needs to manage multiple, simultaneous projects with outcomes that are measured on the traditional criteria of time and cost. Here, we propose an extension based on the agile approach to project management by using an iterative lifecycle with a cadence of one semester, since the TCOP can be dynamically updated at the end of each semester based on the latest information about the progress being made by each cohort with regard to time and cost. We propose course add/delete rules that "reward" high-performing cohorts by offering greater flexibility in course choice, and "punish" low-performing cohorts by offering fewer course options than were in the original TCOP. Abstract

Nowadays, we come across different theft and security problems. The main aim of the proposed system is to provide security and also maintenance-based ATM Operation, Monitoring and Auto Alert System. In this, system uses RFID based Smart ATM card for authentication, if this is ok then it captures immediately person face for bank purpose, whomsoever used the card. If authentication done user can be able to do transaction from the ATM based on user input and get money along with status, then these information updates to the particular bank branch office using IOT Blynk Application. And user can get feedback regarding the balance or transaction alert message to their particular mobile number using GSM. This system also provides ATM anti-theft security using Vibration detection sensor attached to the ATM Machine, if anyone trying to open or break the ATM machine, then this system immediately close the ATM room door along with buzzer alarm and send alert message to the bank Application Here we are using USB camera, vibration sensor, DC motor along with Motor Driver, IR Sensor, LCD and buzzer. All these devices are interfaced to the Raspberry Pi board and these entire systems connect to the bank through Blynk mobile Application over WIFI communication. This system continuously monitors the ATM machine with Multi security and anti-thief detection, and this live information will be updated to the bank office via IOT application. Abstract

An approach to course planning in educational programs was presented in Madan and Gnanendran (2020). There, each student's journey through a degree program was viewed as a "project" requiring completion of a set of tasks (courses) with each task having a specific duration (semester) and, possibly, precedence requirements (prerequisites). The institution is expected to offer courses in an appropriate sequence and timing so that students may progress toward graduation efficiently. Given the large number of students that could matriculate every semester, the institution needs to manage myriad individual degree pathways. To make this problem tractable, Madan and Gnanendran (2020) considered cohorts of students, rather than individuals, according to when each entered the program. The institution then only needs to manage a limited number of simultaneous projects with outcomes that are measured on the typical criteria of time and cost. Recently, researchers (e.g., Rigby et. al., 2016) have espoused the "agile" approach over the traditional "waterfall" approach to managing projects in environments where changes to requirements are to be expected, the work can be modularized, and there are avenues to collaborate with end-users. Since degree programs possess all of these characteristics, we propose heuristics based on agile methodology to address course planning and demonstrate their application via numerical examples.
