Metoprolol tartrate (MPT) loaded polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffold as drug delivery system (DDS) in the treatment of Chronic cardiovascular diseases were set by electrospinning. In specific, MPT loading methods and PCL concentration on fibers morphology, fibers size, and MPT release ratio were investigated. It was seen the average fiber diameter increased as PCL concentration increases, while MPT releases ratio decrease. Emulsion electrospinning has been decreasing the MPT release ratio with a larger fiber diameter and less uniform. On other hand, blend electrospinning smaller average fiber diameter, smoother surface, and flexible with uniform morphology. All fibrous scaffolds presented a burst release of MPT. The results of this study demonstrated that emulsion electro-spun fibers produce a sustained and controlled MPT release, and polycaprolactone concentration had a significant effect on MPT release.
