Abstract

An unsteady RANS-bascd CFD model (STAR-CCM+) is used to optimize the non-reflective chamber and define design loads under the action of extreme focused wave groups for the new sheet-pile quay-wall of Vlora's harbour. The use of different extreme focused wave groups generated according three different spectral wave conditions, i.e. northern exercise condition, southern exercise and extreme conditions, is presented. The proposed method, through spectral analysis of the incident and reflected wave signal, allows the estimation of the reflection coefficients, hence the identification of the best site specific solution. The recorded pressure time series on the structure surfaces, after a validation by comparison with empirical formulas, allows the definition of the design loads. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Students' mobility is a relevant topic but, while in Higher Education transfers between Universities are a praxis, in Vocational Educational and Training are still a declaration of intent. The main obstacles are basically related to the heterogeneity of national qualification systems, and to the lack for definitive transparency measures. Although several European instruments are being introduced in this perspective (like the European Qualification Framework), the internationalization process is still in a preliminary phase. In this paper, a methodology exploiting formal descriptions for supporting the creation of mutual understanding and for defining transnational referencing rules is defined. Rules, developed by actors involved in VET provision, are then applied to a knowledge base hosting annotated national qualifications to experiment qualification comparison and to measure competence gap. Abstract

The paper examines Mental Health Courts as part of the growing movement to utilize therapeutic leverage through courts to encourage aggressive outpatient treatment strategies for mentally ill persons. The paper critically evaluates the utilization of jail diversion and judicial oversight of mental health treatment to prevent incarceration of mentally ill offenders in the criminal justice system. The paper examines: (1) the rationale and controversies associated with problem-solving courts in general; (2)the role of therapeutic jurisprudence in mental health law; (3) the rationale and legislative intent for Mental Health Courts; (4) how Mental Health Courts operate; and (5) the unique due process considerations involved in Mental Health Courts.
