This paper emphasizes the importance of current linkage harmonics for tooth-coil permanent magnet synchronous machines (TC-PMSMs). In the literature the importance of the current linkage harmonics for the design of TC-PMSMs has so far been underestimated. It is shown that the current linkage harmonics affect a lot the performance and efficiency of this type of machines. The torque capability and field-weakening capability strongly depend on the harmonic spectra of the current linkage waveform. Losses in a TC-PMSM are also dependent on the spectrum of the current linkage waveform of the selected slot-and-pole combination. A tapped-inductor boost converter for an input voltage range of 0.3–0.6 V with the output connected to a fixed voltage of 24V for battery charging, was designed, analyzed and tested experimentally. The converter is intended to be used as a harvester for low voltage renewable energy sources such as thermoelectric generators and bio-reactors. The proposed converter is capable of achieving a high boost ratio (40–80) with a reasonable duty-cycle (0.3–0.7). The converter was optimized by selecting low parasitic resistance components and by applying a PCB-based flat magnetic core to reduce the leakage inductance. The operation of the proposed converter was analyzed for continuous and discontinuous inductor current modes and power loss and efficiency expressions were derived. Good agreement was found between circuit simulations, theoretical analysis and experimental results. The experimental unit reached an efficiency of about 86% (gate drive losses included) at an input voltage of 0.5V and output power level of about 1.2W. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

In this paper, effects of leakage inductance components in active clamped flyback inverter are analyzed. In this active clamped flyback inverter, the leakage inductance influences on the control time of the active clamp switch, the voltage across the primary switches, and the resonant capacitor selection. Therefore, it is essential to analyze the effects of leakage inductance for design of flyback inverter. The detailed operation principle, theoretical analysis and design consideration are presented. Windings of power transformer may suffer short circuit currents or mechanical forces, which lead to different winding displacements such as axial displacements and radial displacements. Measurement of leakage inductance is one of the most effective methods to identify these mechanical displacements. In this paper, an on-line detection system based on WinCE platform for transformer winding deformation is proposed. Based on the equivalent circuit of the transformer for low frequencies, the formula to calculate the leakage inductance on-line is derived. In practice, using the signals gained from the voltage transformers and current transformers, with the help of proper signal filtering method, leakage inductance is calculated in our program. Both the signal processing theory and the algorithm of online leakage inductance estimation are presented. To evaluate the feasibility of the detection system, experiments with and without winding displacements were made using a small transformer and the results of on-line detection were discussed. This work presents an isolated full-bridge bidirectional DC/DC converter for battery charging/discharging operation. In the proposed scheme, the full-bridge isolated topology is used for the DC-DC conversion. The full bridge scheme is widely used for the high power application. High frequency transformer is used for isolation purpose. This paper deals with the effect of leakage inductance of high frequency transformer in the charging mode as well as discharge mode of operation. Phase shifted topology is used as control scheme. Effect of leakage inductance on output voltage, output current is shown in simulation. Simulation results are obtained using PSIM Software with a 7.75-kW load. This paper presents a new analytical method for leakage inductance calculation of transverse flux permanent magnet machines. In this method, leakage flux paths are predicted base on the finite element results, and then all paths would be modeled by flux tubes. Finally, the inductance of the machine would be obtained by calculation of the permeance of flux tubes. The validity of the proposed model is verified by comparing the Finite Element results with the results obtained from the proposed approach.
