This article provides an overview of the results from the research focused on the activity of appraisal in the investment decision making in companies operating in Slovakia. The research deals with three substantial parts of appraisal, consisting of appraisal criteria, methods of appraisal of economic efficiency of investment, and appraisal of risk in investment projects. In the article, the importance of individual appraisal criteria is defined according to responses of companies. The responses also revealed the use of static and dynamic appraisal methods in companies, used ways of identifying the risk, and the tools for analysis of the risk in investment variants. The article also includes the analysis of the relationship of these elements of appraisal with the success of investment in companies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work represents an early attempt to build a framework to analyze how the Rural Development Plan decided by the Region of Puglia for the period 2007-2013 has actually affected the regional agriculture. More specifically, by referring to a specific measure of the rural development program (Measure 121 of Axes I), our aim is to verify whether the investment activity implemented under the measure in question has actually generated some positive results and the EU budget devoted to rural development is well spent. Although some more work needs to be done to build a database useful for our analysis purpose, in this work we develop some early considerations on the part of data received by the Puglia Region Authority and highlight what is required for the completion of a useful dataset. Rapid changes have occurred in the world economy during recent years, and organisations are concentrating on the move towards e -Business and e -Commerce. The paper follows a logical approach firstly identifying the business benefits of e- Enterprises such as increased market share, improved customer services, and improved supply chain management. Critical success factors t hat an organisation needs to focus on in order to integrate an e -Business infrastructure successfully into existing system are discussed. A method for appraisal of investment is then proposed that is appropriate for organisations evolving into e -Enterprises. The appraisal is in the form of a strategy that can be implemented in order to achieve the critical success factors. The suitability of traditional evaluation measures such as return on investment (ROI), net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR) are questioned and future issues concerning e - Enterprises are raised.
