The concept of 'Dark Store' in India is still the one which is finding its foot in the market. It is one of the models which got famous as an effect of long lock-downs during the COVID-19 pandemic. It can be simply explained as a store with a virtual ordering interface that supplies daily necessities including groceries to the doorstep of the customer. Most of the people order from dark store as the deliveries are quicker and people save time to go to the store physically to buy the products. Looking at the current scenario, a lot of big business houses are getting into this sector and setting up dark stores at even faster speed. This paper tries to find out the evolution of the dark stores and fast delivery service modules carried by dark stores, their opportunities expansion and growth reasons behind it. This paper proposes a method for a grocery assistance system with object detection and recognition for people with visual impairment. Several solutions have been presented till date to improve the quality of life of visually impaired and blind persons. But, purchasing items in a grocery store without the assistance of others is still difficult for them. Some Computer Vision based systems gave an inconsistent performance in real-world environments because of problems such as motion blur. This paper proposes a method wherein, the system will recognize an object and then convert its real-time object to an audio output. This will help them recognize a grocery item at a shop or elsewhere. The system uses SIFT for feature extraction and PCA for dimensionality reduction. The system mainly identifies and classifies 3 products in a grocery store namely beverages, dairy products and chocos. Five different classifiers viz. SVM (OVO), SVM (OVR), KNN, Decision Tree and Random Forest were used to classify the products and overall, Random Forest classifier gave the best accuracy amongst others. This paper focuses on the under-explored dynamics between physical grocery stores and e-grocery through the lens of business model innovation. While e-grocery is expected to grow, we still know little about how it will affect the existing physical stores - and how these actors are reacting to this potential threat. We draw upon in-depth interviews with senior executives from grocery companies, academics, and experts. The data has been subsequently discussed in the light of market literature and the study's' theoretical framework. We find that e-grocery and physical grocery operate with two very different business models, where neither would benefit from emulating the other. While some of the physical chains have been developing e-grocery as add-on services, they are not profitable because they are not compatible with the current business model. Seeing this, physical shops are primarily concerned with competing with other physical shops to survive the growth of e-grocery despite of the development from pure e-grocery players. However, these sustaining actions might over time turn consumers digital, as the reduction of number of physical stores might spark the change in consumer behavior needed by e-grocery to accelerate its growth. This poster presents preliminary findings of a study which examines New Yorkers' everyday life information seeking (ELIS) behavior in the context of coping with COVID‐19. Based on semi‐structured interviews with 10 New Yorkers, this study identified 15 major categories of everyday life information needs, and developed a typology of New Yorkers' preferred ELIS sources. These typologies show New Yorkers' specific ELIS behavior during the pandemic, such as actively seeking information regarding grocery shopping and delivery, health safety guidelines, and current events. Social media became a popular source for immediate, local, and relevant information in New Yorkers' daily lives. These findings could form a knowledge base to inform the development of information services to assist residents of large urban areas in coping with public health crises. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We discuss an alternative logistics concept for e-grocery operations using an urban network of refrigerated grocery lockers. Regarding the last mile delivery of food and other fast-moving consumer goods, customers either collect their orders by themselves or the products are delivered by means of electric cargo bicycles. To determine the optimal grocery locker locations and both, the routes from the lockers to the consumers as well as the routes from the depot to the grocery lockers, we propose a 2-echelon optimization model minimizing total costs. We present a Location Routing Problem (LRP) in combination with a customized Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP). With our decision support system (DSS), we react to the call of Malhotra et al. (2013) and Gholami et al. (2016) and address the lack of solution-oriented research. The goal of this article is to reveal the ideal representation of a product in an e-shop with bio foodstuffs, with emphasis on the attributes of size, colour and the execution of product representation. To achieve the goal of this article, a research utilizing an eye-tracking device SEMI-RED 250 was used together with an in-depth interview. Concerning the attribute of size, it is important to mention that a larger depiction of a product does attract more attention, but such a product does not have to give the impression of a bio product. Also, the way in which the product is displayed should also be taken into account, since a product set into context, or a product supplemented with a unique feature, draws attention better. The colour plays an important role in bio foodstuffs representation in e-grocery as well, since some colours are better for representation than others. The research was realized in the spring 2015 in the eye-tracking laboratory of Mendel University in Brno, and its conclusions are a part of the IGA project, which deals with the shopping behaviour of consumers on the market or regional and bio foodstuffs. The scientific paper deals with disproportions in the field of automatized identification and data collection in digital and 'traditional' retail stores. The text particularly aims to point out various problems related to use of EAN codes as unique identifiers of products that are offered to customers by traditional forms of sale, also focusing on distinctions associated with EAN codes and their use in the virtual environment. The authors pay attention to possible changes in encoded information content included within EAN code which correspond with positive foreign experience - it is recommended to include information on a product's expiration date. Increasing the effectiveness of distribution chain and consumer and health protection are assumed to be the main advantages of the new forms of practical implementation of EAN codes. The text therefore offers key information on the current trends in using EAN codes that are applied in order to explore new possibilities related to SMEs and their business strategies. Over the last decades, the majority of grocery retailers have increased their sales share accounted for by non-food products. Since retail stores are constrained in their physical selling space, retail managers have to make critical strategic decisions on the diversity of their stores' assortments to attract existing and new customers (Mantrala et al. 2009). Besides assortment diversification into food and non-food merchandise within a retail store, corporate-level assortment diversification can also result from parent retailers' configurations of retail store formats, which traditionally carry different shares of food and non-food assortments (Levy and Weitz 2008). Women's disadvantages in labor market outcomes are often attributed to the preponderance of men at or near the top of organizational hierarchies. While theories of homophily predict that women in positions of power ameliorate gender differences in wages for employees under them, status characteristics theory suggests that women face comparable disadvantages when working under men and women. Despite competing theoretical perspectives, there is little empirical work investigating the effect of women in positions of organizational power on gender inequality among their subordinates. This study makes an important contribution to this literature by using employment records from 3,707 employees at a large U.S.-based grocery retailer over 9 years to examine how the gender gap in wages varies in establishments with male and female managers. Consistent with status characteristics theory, we find no significant differences between male and female managers in terms of gender-based wage inequality among their employees.
