Abstract

In heavy ion fusion and nucleon transfer reactions, which lead to the synthesis of superheavy elements, it is important to understand the reaction mechanisms. The fusion reaction mechanism is analyzed in the case of deformed target nuclei such as actinide target nuclei. We have analyzed the correlation between fission fragment mass and scattering angle (MAD) using the Langevin equation. Taking into account the effect of the collision direction between the projectile and deformed target nuclei, we present the analysis of the experimental data for the MAD of 32S+232Th. Abstract

For light and medium mass systems the capture cross-section may be considered to be the same as that for complete fusion, whereas for heavy systems leading to superheavy formations the evaporation residue cross-section is dramatically reduced due to the quasifission (QF) and fusion-fission processes thus making the capture cross-section to be essentially the sum of these two cross-sections, with QF occurring at a much shorter time-scale. Consequently, quasifission is the primary reaction mechanism that limits the formation of superheavy nuclei. Within the last few years the time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) approach has been utilized for studying the dynamics of quasifission. The study of quasifission is showing a great promise to provide insight based on very favorable comparisons with experimental data. In this article we will focus on the TDHF calculations of quasifission observables for the 48Ca+249Bk system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The article focuses on the radiochemical separation of zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf) through cation exchange chromatography as a prerequisite for the chemical identification. The Zr and Hf were used by researchers as group 4 homologues of lutecium and rutherfordium and as model element for actinides and strontium for the chemical procedures. According to the author, the final data analysis and the comparison between the mentioned elements are mandatory in complex speciation.

Abstract

Fusion-evaporation cross sections were calculated for the 48Ca+204–208Pb and 50Ti+206,208Pb reactions and compared with the existing experimental data of the Dubna and GSI groups. The survival probabilities of the compound Z = 102 and Z = 104 nuclei formed in these reactions were calculated using a Monte Carlo program based on the conventional Bohr-Wheeler theory of fission and statistical model of particle evaporation with Reisdorf-Ignatyuk prescription for the level densities and Strutinsky shell corrections of Möller et al. “Empirical” magnitudes of the dynamical hindrance of fusion have been deduced for these reactions. © 2006 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
