In this research, usage of the Doppler measurement as well as range and azimuth in tracking filter measurement vector to improve the target tracking performance in 2D pulse-Doppler radar is investigated. Tracking filter measurement model becomes highly non-linear with the addition of Doppler measurement to the measurement vector. Maneuvering target tracking with Doppler measurements is investigated. This paper presents a linear filtering method, converted Doppler measurements Kalman filter (CDMKF), to estimate a pseudo state vector, which consists of the converted Doppler and its derivatives. Then the output of CDMKF is combined with the output of converted position measurements Kalman filter (CPMKF) by a nonlinear static estimator outside the filtering recursions. This constructs a new state estimator which is named as parallel converted measurements Kalman filter (PRL-CMKF). A real time system to measure without contact the length of stainless steel sheets in a production line is presented in this paper. The items are measured in real time as they are cut in the production line and are moved forward by a conveyor passing down a differential laser sensor device which measures and integrates its perpendicular speed. One challenge of the system is to deal with different length and speed maintaining the accuracy. Also installation, calibration and supervision procedures have been established. In addition the designed system must be robust enough to be installed in the hard industrial environment of the iron and steel works. The polarization residual Doppler frequency (difference between the VV and HH Doppler centroids) is investigated as a valid parameter in a sea surface SAR wind retrieval scheme. This parameter along with the normalized radar cross section are used as inputs to two purely theoretical geophysical model functions based on the Generalized Curvature Ocean Surface Scattering model. A cost function minimization is implemented as part of the proposed wind retrieval method. The methodology is tested using 21 co-polarized TerraSAR-X scenes where retrieved winds are compared against collocated in situ measurements. A 5.23 degree bias along with a 45.3 degree standard deviation and 0.88 correlation are obtained for the wind direction comparison, while a 1.49 m/s bias, 2.36 m/s standard deviation, and 0.72 correlation are obtained for the wind speed comparison.
