The adsorbent of activated carbon based on pulp waste sludge coated with chitosan has been analyzed to adsorb heavy metal cadmium. The manufacture of activated carbon from biomass using chemical activation consists of several stages, namely washing and drying, size reduction, immersion with an activating agent (impregnation) followed by drying, carbonization, washing, and drying. In the impregnation process followed by drying, ZnCl
2 dehydrated the biomass and then shrimp shells were extracted to obtain chitosan. In the manufacture of composites, activated carbon from pulp industry sludge can be used as a substrate for gluing chitosan in order to absorb heavy metal cadmium. Chitosan activated carbon composites were characterized by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The results of the analysis showed a decrease in Cadmium levels from 5 mg/Kg to 2.7 mg/Kg.
