In this study, the removal of lead in soil samples was carried out by eggshells activated carbon (ESAC). Magnesium chloride (MgCl2) was used as the activation agent at 500 °C for an hour. The prepared ESAC was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray (FESEM-EDX), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) technique was used to determine the surface area of the prepared activated carbon. The FTIR spectrum confirmed the formation of ESAC material. Besides, the EDX spectrum showed that the elements of ESAC such as carbon (C), nitrogen (N), oxygen (0), magnesium (Mg), and calcium (Ca) present in the matrix. The BET analysis showed that the surface area of ESAC was 0.5566 m2/g, and the type of pores present on the surface was macropores with an average diameter between 0.05 to 2 µm. Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) was used to determine the percentage removal of lead in soil using the Aqua Regia method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
