- Abstract
Conserving energy is a worldwide dilemma for nations as well as individual households. Data indicates that European nations face a significant issue in this regard. Energy conservation is a global issue that both nations and individual households must address. Statistics reveal that European nations face a significant issue in this regard. The literature study revealed that several studies primarily focus on energy conservation, whereas there is a dearth of research examining social consciousness and user proficiency. A report outlines the study findings, aiming to ascertain the level of awareness across various generations about the resources, information, and expertise required for energy management. The objective of the paper was to examine the use of the Internet of Things as a technological instrument for residential energy management in Poland, Portugal, and Italy. We administered an online survey to a total of 18,683 customers from February 2022 to February 2023. The survey used a kind of sampling known as convenience sampling. The research used a survey that included 26 inquiries about customers' awareness and behaviour in the field of energy conservation. Research indicates that the elderly population struggles with vocabulary and often lacks comprehension of instruments. This suggests that they are unable to effectively control the energy use in their households, resulting in inefficient measures. Additionally, future research endeavours were established to explore knowledge acquisition, solution utilisation, and proficient utilisation of technologies for conserving and controlling energy within residential settings. CONSTRUCTION industry ,SUSTAINABLE construction ,SUSTAINABLE communities ,SUSTAINABLE urban development ,CLIMATE change mitigation - Abstract
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development demonstrates a clear path to a more prosperous life for all nations. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its 169 associated targets provide a reference for all nations to guide their decisions over the next 15 years towards a more peaceful and prosperous world. The Sustainable Development Goals and its associated targets are integrated, interlinked, and universal in scope. The construction industry is a key practitioner in achieving the SDGs due to its tremendous impact on the environment, economy, and society. Therefore, this paper aims to review the literature related to the role of the construction industry in the achievement of the SDGs. Generally, there are three main opinions regarding the contribution of the construction industry in achieving SDGs: one opinion is focusing on the fact that the construction industry can impact all the SDGs, while the second opinion argues that the construction industry can only play a role in achieving some of the SDGs. The third opinion, which is widely accepted by most researchers, is considering the fact that the construction industry has an impact on achieving almost all the SDGs, however, the priority and the significance of the role is not the same for all goals. When it comes to sustainable development in the context of construction industry some negative practices such as "trades-off" and "SDG Washing" are common. It has been found that the SDG 11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities" is the most dependent goal. SDG 7 "Affordable and Clean Energy" and SDG 9 "Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure" come in the second place. SDG 13 "Climate Action" and SDG 15 "Life on Land" are the third most dependent goals. On the other hand, SDG 4 "Quality Education", SDG 10 "Reduced Inequity". SDG 16 "Peace and Justise Strong Institutions" and SDG 17 "Partnerships to Achieve SDGs" are the less dependent goals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The history of food consumption offers a wide range of thematic and disciplinary facets, lending itself to approaches in economic and environmental, scientific and technical, social and religious history. The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the history of a typical product in a Southern Italian Region, Puglia, to allow us to show the relationship between agriculture, local alimentary tradition, agro-food industry and governmental policies. The idea is to bring out, through the history of a local product, the identity of the area and to make of the agro-food typicality an instrument of socio-economic intermediation. We will refer in particular to a product that boasts a wide commercial spread and an undisputed popularity, pasta, to which a rooted social, cultural and economic tradition has given a leading role in the national and international food scenario. We will refer to a geographical area, deputized by a long historical tradition to the extensive production of wheat, the Tavoliere di Puglia, and our survey goes from the end of the XIX to the XX century. ELECTRON impact ionization ,COLLISIONS (Nuclear physics) ,GLUONS ,LUMINOSITY - Abstract
The US Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) is a future facility to be built at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) to study the collisions of polarized electrons with polarized protons and ions. It will provide the answers to fundamental questions on quark and gluon interactions such as: how colored partons and colorless jets travel in the nuclear medium, the properties of the state of matter in high gluon density (low-x) regime, distribution of quarks, gluons, and their spin inside a nucleon. EIC is expected to run at the luminosity of 10
32 -1034 cm-2 sec-1 and center-of-mass energy 20-140 GeV [1]. ATHENA (A Totally Hermetic Electron Nucleus Apparatus) is one of the detector designs provided as the response to the call for the proposal issued by the EIC Project in 2021. It consists of a tracking system with wide pseudorapidity coverage (|η|<3.5), high granularity (pixel size of inner layers ~10 μm), and low material budget (0.05% of X0 per layer) for the innermost silicon layers to achieve good tracking and vertexing performances. - Abstract
The aim of this research is to assess a technique to retrieve actual evapotranspiration (ET) maps from remote sensing images by the combination of two different procedures. The first one, known as triangle method, computes the evapotranspiration fraction (EF) defined as the ratio LE/Rn, where Rn is the net radiation at the surface and LE is the latent heat flux. LE is directly proportional to ET. In order to retrieve LE, and consequently the surface evapotranspiration, a second procedure computes the net radiation of the investigated area. Therefore, by inversion, it is possible to obtain an estimate of the ET. The validation of these variables, net radiation and evapotranspiration derived from MODIS data, has been undertaken on the Capitanata area, Southern Italy, by comparison of model results with in-situ measurements provided by the Consorzio per la Bonifica della Capitanata di Foggia. ENVIRONMENTAL protection ,HUMAN rights ,CLIMATE change ,ENVIRONMENTAL rights - Abstract
The article is dedicated to a theoretical study of a person legal status, which is one of the most important entities and, at the same time, an object of environmental legal relations, which occupies a central place in the system of fundamental environmental values. The author considers the features of the of a person status in the theory of environmental law, the problems of legislative consolidation and implementation of its basic environmental rights and obligations. In particular, the scientific discussions on the inclusion of a person in the list of objects of environmental protection, the role of law in limiting the intensive development of nature by a person, the embodiment of human environmental interests in law, and criteria for a favorable state of the environment are being investigated. Authors analyzes the problems of the realization by a person of his rights and obligations as a subject of environmental legal relations, the right of general use of nature, his participation in environmental legal relations as a special subject. The article concludes that the human rights response, if one exists, should be carried out on a global scale, considering the global environment and climate as a common problem for mankind. The consequences, benefits and drawbacks, of this approach to environmental protection are outlined but need further study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ENVIRONMENTAL policy ,ECONOMIC development ,SOCIAL development ,NATURAL resources - Abstract
This paper focuses its attention on how, in a Southern Italian region like Puglia, the environment has been affected by infrastructural policies about the use of the water resource. The management and administration of the water resource and the rules about the use of public water and the pattern of socio-economic development were linked to the limited availability of this essential natural resource. The paper seeks to suggest that the use of water is dependent on peculiarities of social and cultural developme nt and, in this case, it shows that the water system has not prevented the emergence of a "spontaneous" system-approval. The area shared the principles of the protection of water resources and, at the same time, the idea that the development of the distribution networks of such a primary and inalienable good, like water, needed to be done carefully and with extreme care. The case of Puglia can be dealt with in this perspective: how projects and plans on the use of such an important natural resource shows that the effort applied on the transformation of the space resent of a sort of cultural iden Xtity, linked to the use of water. SMART cities ,SUSTAINABLE development ,SOCIAL cohesion ,ENVIRONMENTAL quality ,RESEARCH institutes - Abstract
Currently the concept of smart city is widespread. Its value is related to sustainable development in terms of social cohesion, to the diffusion and availability of knowledge, creativity, freedom and mobility, environmental quality, and their relative use by advanced technologies. To think of a smart city or even, on a smaller scale, a smart area, means to consider different variables of influence. One of these variables is the geographical proximity between universities or research centers and the territory. Data from universities and research centers operating in different areas of technology, as gathered by a relevant literature in the field (Lawton Smith, H., 2007, 2011, 2013; Lazzeroni, M., Piccaluga, A., 2003; Lazzeroni 2010; Lazzeroni et al., 2013), show that, when the geographical distance from the source of knowledge (Universities and Research Centres) to users increases, the impact of knowledge gradually decreases. The approach of the present study declines the exposed issue to the specific case of marginal urban area. Results of an empirical analysis are proposed. It regards to a real case, based on the analysis of the impacts of the recent settlement of a research center, the center Cesma of the University of Naples Federico II, in marginal east area of the city of Naples, in which the local administration has decided to implement requalification actions.
