Question Answering (QA) systems attempt to retrieve precise answers to questions posed in natural language by the users. It is a sophisticated form of Information Retrieval (IR) that uses a predefined collection of raw data in natural language. Malayalam is an official language in India, that is not only morphologically rich and agglutinative in nature but is also resource constrained. These aspects of the language make QA in Malayalam very challenging. This paper proposes a deep learning based QA system for Malayalam using techniques such as Long Short-Term Memory Networks (LSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), and Memory Network models. Facebook bAbI dataset consisting of 20 tasks with the questions having multiple supporting facts, inductive and deductive reasoning, coreference, etc. have been used to train and test the system. It was observed that the Memory Network model achieved the best average accuracy (80%) among the three models implemented, in retrieving exact answers in Malayalam. This work is unique because all the reported work on Malayalam QA is rule-based, capable of extracting answers to factoid questions only. The proposed system which uses deep learning approaches is scalable and thus capable of enhancing the ongoing research in Malayalam QA along with the development of the Malayalam QA corpus. Transmission-constrained generation expansion planning (TC-GEP) problem for new generating units significantly involves location, capacity and type of fuel. This problem can be solved by adding Optimal Power Flow (OPF) constraints. This study renders an application of the Self-adaptive Differential Evolution (SaDE) algorithm to the TC-GEP problem for multiple horizons, at least cost, for the power generating system of Tamil Nadu, India. TC-GEP problem has been solved for 6-year (till 2022) and 12-year (till 2028) planning horizon by considering the least cost and reliable supply. The problem is solved for six different scenarios on an Indian utility 62 bus test system, and the results are validated with Dynamic Programming (DP). The results of the TC-GEP problem for the year 2028 are compared with the solutions of the GEP problem without transmission constraint. Finally, a comparison is made between the proposed solution and the practically implemented expansion plan for the year 2017 by the Tamil Nadu electricity sector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

North-eastern states of India, including Assam, have a high prevalence of head and neck cancer cases. In these regions, Sadagura is a unique form of smokeless tobacco (SLT). There are fewer reports regarding the effects of simultaneous sadagura and arsenic co-exposure. Analysis of chemical compounds present in sadagura aqueous extract was done using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Estimation of arsenic contamination in groundwater and bioaccumulation in human tissues was performed by using atomic absorption spectroscopy. Buccal micronucleus cytome (BMCyt) assay and analysis of various peripheral blood parameters were performed among study volunteers. Chronic exposure (90 days) experiments were performed in mice test system in vivo to determine any possible protective potential of vitamin C (Vit-C) supplementation against sadagura and arsenic co-exposure. BMCyt assay results revealed a higher incidence of micronucleated cells (p < 0.001), and cell death biomarker among sadagura consumers residing in arsenic affected areas. Comet assay of mice femur bone marrow cells following chronic exposure of the test substances revealed a reduction in DNA damage due to Vit-C supplementation. Histological examination of the hepatic and renal tissues revealed marked improvement due to Vit-C supplementation in mice against sadagura and arsenic chronic co-exposure. Indiscriminate consumption, presence of various harmful compounds in sadagura along with arsenic co-exposure might be a vital link for the higher incidence of oral cancer in the region. Chronic Vit-C supplementation study results in mice show its effective remedial potential against combined sadagura and arsenic co-mediated genotoxicity and ultrastructural changes in major organs. Due to the large-scale integration of renewable energy and inevitable disturbing events (including natural disasters and deliberate attacks), the invulnerability of power grids is facing a great challenge, thus the security criterion is demanded to upgrade from N − 1 to N − k. However, with the increasing of k and the expanding of network scale, resource consumption of network expansion shows an exponential explosion. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the invulnerability of power grids from a new perspective. In this paper, the definition of nodal N − k security criterion is proposed, which divides buses into different security levels based on realistic demand, and decouples the security analysis from the system level to individual nodes. A two-stage robust optimization model is established, cooperating with the nodal N − k security criterion, the load demand of critical buses could be guaranteed. Moreover, the proposed discrepant upgrade scheme is flexible and has strong generalization performance, where enhanced buses and security levels can be selected independently based on the preferences of decision-makers. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposal have been demonstrated in 5 cases, i.e., the IEEE 9-bus, 24-bus, 57-bus, 118-bus systems and an actual test system in India. • The definition of nodal N − k security criterion is proposed. • A defender–attacker–defender (DAD) model cooperating with the criterion is established. • A gradual and progressive enhancement framework is provided. Summary: Distributed energy resources (DERs) are a better option for fulfillment of load demand near the load centers. Optimal location and rating of DERs plays a vital role in the enhancement of distribution system performance in terms of power loss reduction, voltage profile enhancement, environmental friendliness, increasing reliability, and postponement of system upgrading. This paper addresses the Gbest‐guided artificial bee colony (GABC) optimization technique for the optimal integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) and electric vehicles (EVs) in distribution feeder to improve the power loss reduction, voltage level, cost reduction, and emissions reduction under load demand uncertainty. In this work, mathematical models of RESs, that is, wind turbine generation system (WTGS) and photovoltaic generation system (PVGS), are employed to determine the generated output power. The foremost aim of this research work is simultaneous abatement of total active power loss, entire cost, and emissions generation; therefore a multiobjective‐based fitness function is formed. Moreover, the impact of charging/discharging behavior of EVs on the distribution grid has also been considered in this study. The proposed methodology is applied on two test systems: (a) 28‐bus practical rural distribution network located at Kakdwip zone in the province of West Bengal, India, and (b) standard 69‐bus distribution feeders. Finally, from the achieved numerical outcomes, it is analyzed that, GABC algorithm generates better outcomes as compared to other optimization techniques. The present study investigated the compositional variation and antioxidant potential of Origanum vulgare L. (subsp. vulgare) collected from three districts of Uttarakhand, India. The essential oil composition was analyzed by GC and GC/MS, and the antioxidant potential was evaluated using 2,2ʹ-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) activity and Fe2+-ferrozine test system for iron-chelating activity methods. The analysis allowed the identification of 22–36 compounds representing 87.84–92.95% of the total essential oil. Samples S1 and S2 contained a high amount of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (26.37–47.25%), while sample S3 was rich in oxygenated monoterpenes (70.21%). The major component was (E)-caryophyllene in S1 and S2 samples (15.40–26.41%) and thymol (60.3%) in S3 sample. A 42-GHz, 200-kW gyrotron was developed and tested for the Indian plasma fusion system. The gyrotron was designed for the TE0,3 operating mode. The configuration of the triode-type magnetron injection gun (MIG) with the linear RF output, undepressed collector, and face-cooled double disk window was adopted in this gyrotron because of the first development experience. The complete tube was developed and processed at Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani, India. The RF testing of the gyrotron was performed at the participating institute, Institute of Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar, India. Due to some cooling issues in the collector region, the tube was tested by a resistive capacitor network-based power supply for a very short pulse in place of a long pulse, high voltage power supply. The tube was tested up to the beam voltage of 51 kV and a beam current of 12 A at the cavity magnetic field of 1.61 T for the short pulse of $500~\mu \text{s}$. The tube was inserted into the magnet system consisting of a main electromagnet, auxiliary gun coils, and collector magnets. The multi-hole and single hole couplers were used to measure the RF power in the TE0,3 mode and the overall power, respectively. The measured results were also compared with the simulated results and a close agreement of the results was found.
