The 23rd EUROCALL conference was held in Cyprus from the 24th to the 27th of August 2016. The theme of the conference this year was "CALL Communities and Culture." It offered a unique opportunity to hear from real-world CALL practitioners on how they practice CALL in their communities, and how the CALL culture has developed in local and global contexts. The 25th European Association of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (EUROCALL) conference was hosted by Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton, in the United Kingdom, from the 23rd to the 26th of August 2017. The theme of the conference was "CALL in a climate of change." The theme encompassed the notion of how practice and research in CALL is responding to shifting global circumstances which impact education, including developments arising from economic, political, or environmental change. It cut across areas including considerations for teacher training, competitive educational models, open education, new models for blended learning, collaboration, mobile learning, creative and innovative pedagogy, data analytics, students' needs and sustainability--and crucially, it looked to the future with optimism. The programme was packed with over 200 sessions related to this topic, and it included a large number of workshops, pecha kucha, posters, and symposia. This volume offers a snapshot of this dynamic landscape and contains 60 of the papers presented. This volume reflects the wide variety of topics featured at the conference and the high quality of contributions. (Individual papers contain references.)

This paper was presented at the Australian Federation of Travel Agents Industry Leaders & Educators Engagement Symposium held in Sydney on February 12, 2015. With industry sustainability becoming a strong concern, even within growth sectors, this paper identifies issues to be considered in ensuring that the education and training system can respond to emerging skills demand in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. There are a number of means by which this can be achieved, the most vital possibly being improving young people's perceptions of the industry's career options. For this industry to be viewed as a career of choice, one that holds diverse and rewarding career pathways, particular attention needs to be paid to the promotion of these aspects. Skill development that pays attention to current and future industry requirements is also essential, including upskilling existing workers and developing the information and communication technology skills the industry needs. Stronger partnerships between training providers, business and industry peak bodies are highlighted as essential catalysts for the realisation of these next steps. For the thirty-fourth year, the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) is sponsoring the publication of these Proceedings. Papers published in this volume were presented at the annual AECT Convention in Jacksonville, FL. A limited quantity of these Proceedings were printed and sold in both hardcopy and electronic versions. The Proceedings of AECT's Convention are published in two volumes. Volume #1 contains papers dealing primarily with research and development topics. Papers dealing with the practice of instructional technology including instruction and training issues are contained in Volume #2. This year, both volumes are included in one document. paper making process adopts primarily a generic flow of steps across industries. This industry is one of the largest in the world and is touted to be growing further with incremental demand for paper and its affiliated products for its eco-friendliness. However, paper and pulp industry is a heavily resource dependent industry be it forest resource, water resource, energy or chemicals. In fact, it is said to be one of the top five leading consumers of energy. Given such, this industry is a major contributor to depleting natural resources and increasing greenhouse gas emission, adding intensively to the global warming. Against such a backdrop, it offers relevant cause to study the scholarly discussion and debate on sustainable issues in paper and pulp industry playing around the academic universe and also to poke into and discuss some of the issues of sustainability in the industry emerging out of the articles. Accordingly, through this article, the present state of affairs in the academic fraternity on the above topic has been laid out through a bibliometric analysis, while some of the common challenges of environmental sustainability associated with the paper making process have been identified from the literature and discussed thereof. The local environment can be explored to sustain effective sustainability learning. With this aim, new learning methodologies can be fostered, namely mobile and game-based learning, as is the case of the EduPARK app. This app supports innovative learning strategies through treasure hunt games, integrating multimedia and augmented reality resources, in natural spaces. This paper presents a pilot case study of a pedagogical approach based on the exploration of a game in the EduPARK app, in the outdoors. The game was developed to be explored in the largest annual event of the University of Aveiro (UA)--XPERiMENTA 2022--where students of several ages and the wider community are invited to participate in diverse activities on the campuses. The main goal of the activity "XPERiMENTA with EduPARK in the UA Campus" was to raise basic education students' awareness towards nature conservation. Eighteen students (14 and 15 years-old) explored an interdisciplinary educational game that encouraged them to follow a path through the UA Campuses to promote learning related to recycling, renewable energies, food waste, and ocean plastic pollution. Simultaneously, curricular contents of Science, Mathematics, Education for Citizenship, and cultural aspects of the city of Aveiro were articulated. At the end of the activity, an individual and anonymous questionnaire to evaluate the activity was applied. Students revealed a positive attitude towards the EduPARK app, as their answers revealed they felt motivated to learn during the game. Additionally, students reached a good performance in the game, although difficulties in one specific question were identified. This paper presents preliminary results that will inform the development of a new related project, the EduCITY, that aims to promote education for sustainability through a smart learning city environment. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and compare all the academic papers in the proceedings of ECKM in 2017 (Barcelona), 2018 (Padua), 2019 (Lisbon), and the digital conferences in Coventry 2020 and 2021. In 2022, the conference was arranged in Naples, and 2023, in Lisbon, both as hybrid conferences. The study classifies the papers according to methodology, analysis, discussion, and conclusion regarding their contribution to the four paradigmatic boxes. The approach uses the five philosophy of science framework and compares this to the content of the research papers. We will use the findings in four representations of knowledge, two typologies of concepts, four paradigmatic classifications, and the concluding framework for knowledge management research. The seven conferences heavily emphasize knowledge-itis and instrumental itis and much less on problem-itis. The papers are mostly centered around existing knowledge and accepted methodology and are less related to new problems. The results indicate a conference based upon as-is knowledge and less upon new and often unsolvable issues. The ECKM academic papers in 2017, 2018, and 2019 have relatively low complexity and are presented in an empirical and materialistic paradigmatic framework through definitive concepts representing a form of atomistic research. The papers in 2020, 2021, and especially 2022 and 2023 are delivered within a more robust, clarified subjectivity and action research-based framework through definitive and sensitizing concepts. What would ECKM have been with more complexity in action and subjective paradigmatic framework through sensitizing concepts representing holistic research? A more creative, engaged, and relevant conference. It will also be a more scientific conference discussing what is acceptable or not acceptable and what is adequate. Studies concerning sustainability, digitalization, and globalization might require another research approach. The more critical and green papers in the 2020 and 2021 conferences are open to new perspectives on methodology, problems, and knowledge. The 2022 and 2023 conferences represent a turning point for critical sustainability and digitalization papers that clarify subjectivity through action-based research. The 2022 and 2023 papers represent the turning point of ECKM into improved relevance through more critical and constructed studies based on the societal climate crisis and sustainable strategies and business models. The theme of the 2016 National Conference of the Australian College of Educators (ACE), "Challenges and changes: The power of education to build the world to which we aspire," provided a unique opportunity for education professionals to carefully consider and propose papers, workshops, and poster sessions to stimulate discussion and debate about this significant topic as participants from all sectors and at all levels of the education community gathered at this two-day event in Sydney, Australia, on September 26-27, 2016. The general expectation for many successful educational innovations is to "scale up" the project. Based on interviews with participating teachers, facilitators and administrators, this research shares findings from the "scaling up" stage of a federally funded mathematics project designed to help teachers reach a wide range of diverse learners. Drawing on a more nuanced conceptualization of scale, our findings suggest that scaling an intensive mathematics PD program is a complex enterprise that requires coordination among multiple stakeholders in a school system. In going to scale, researchers must unpack their assumptions about scale in order to inform their program design and their research methodology and fine-tune their support for essential stakeholders. Considering the fast-changing times and mounting challenges, higher education institutions (HEIs) became recognized as important change agents in the society but at the same time became more threatened. To that end, recently Magna Charta Universitatum, a declaration stating that intellectual and moral autonomy is the hallmark of any university and a precondition for the fulfilment of its responsibilities to society has been revised to reflect the changes of global society as well as to recognise HEIs' role to address the challenges that come with change. In fact, the revised document indicates that universities acknowledge their responsibility to engage with and respond to the challenges of the world and to their local communities to benefit humanity and contribute to sustainability. In order to achieve this promise, the academic freedom (AF) of scholars as knowledge seekers and builders as well as key actors in education and social change needs to be safeguarded. The aim of this paper is to enhance consideration for relationship between AF and sustainability. Based on the scholarly literature we explore the interconnection between the two notions. The preliminary findings clearly indicate that sustainability and AF play an imperative role in HEIs. Freedom of academic voices needs to be supported to protect and promote authentic participation in public discourses and to sustainably shape future society. As evident in scholarly literature, universities worldwide embrace Sustainable Development Goals initiated by United Nations. Yet, regardless institutions' commitment, many countries, especially developing ones, struggle to effectively implement sustainability-oriented principles and practices in higher education. To that end, this paper, based on the qualitative document analysis, brings attention to main challenges associated with the implementation of sustainability-orientated principles and practices in seven South African universities. The findings show that several challenges exist due to the holistic nature of sustainable development (SD) as it is a concept that not only connects different areas of knowledge but also articulates knowledge from distinctive disciplines. Furthermore, the findings indicate that the strategy with the most potential of enhancing the implementation of sustainability-orientated principles and practices and ensuring longevity and improvement require support from top management of higher education institutions (HEIs). In addition, in order to strengthen SD, HEIs need to adapt a holistic approach and implement sustainability principles, knowledge, and practices within all academic activities. In alignment with the theme of the conference, this study provides reflections and recommendations towards the improvement of education considering the experiences and lessons learnt in a specific context. Climate change is a complex issue that requires collective actions from various disciplines, including educating future generations about sustainability. Some countries such as Indonesia and Australia have included sustainability into their school curricula, which require teachers to design and implement tasks related to a sustainability issue. However, teachers may not have the capability and understanding to do so. The challenges are difficult for mathematics teachers because designing a mathematics task pertaining to sustainability is rarely explored. Therefore, this paper draws from mathematics education literature to provide and discuss a new framework for designing sustainability-related, mathematics tasks (green mathematic tasks).

Supporting learners in many different areas such as pedagogical, administrative and technical areas in e-learning environments is important for maintaining attendance rates, success and satisfaction. The standards published by accreditation organizations are guiding in determining the scope of support to be provided to students in order to provide quality e-learning. This study aimed to examine the learner support criteria for e-learning environments in the context of quality standards from a sustainability perspective. The qualitative research method was used in the study and the data collected by document analysis were analyzed by manifest content analysis. In the first stage of the research, accreditation organizations publishing quality standards for educational programs and distance learning environments were researched and 15 accreditation organizations were selected according to the accessibility of the standards on the internet. In the second stage, the quality standard documents were scanned, and the sections related to learner support were separated and subjected to content analysis. As a result, ten dimensions of learner support emerged. These are technical training and orientation, socialization and interaction, evaluation and feedback, content and teaching material, research and consultancy, accessibility and ease of use, technical support, administrative support, security support, physical resource and financial support. In this context, suggestions have been made to make e-learning environments more qualified in terms of learner support. This study examined the effects of forest education on the environmental awareness and environmental attitudes of vocational high school students and their self-evaluations toward forest education. The study, in which the mixed research method was adopted, was designed with an explanatory design. Forest education was given within the scope of the experimental study carried out at the quantitative level. The importance of the education was emphasized and forest ecology, eco-social functions of forests, forest products were discussed with an interdisciplinary approach. The study group consists of 32 vocational high school students studying at vocational high schools in different provinces from the Thrace region. Data collection tools are the sustainable environmental awareness scale and environmental attitude scale at the quantitative level and structured interviews at the qualitative level. Related samples t-test was used for quantitative data and content analysis was performed for qualitative data. The results of the study show a permanent increase in environmental awareness and attitude of vocational high school students thanks to forest education. According to the self-evaluations of vocational high school students, it can be said that forest education provides positive environmental and academic contributions to them. Based on the results obtained, it can be suggested that forest education should be given importance to direct qualified intermediate staff candidates who can have a say in human-environment interaction to sustainable pro-environmental behaviors. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and compare all the academic papers in the proceedings of ECKM in 2017 (Barcelona), 2018 (Padua), 2019 (Lisbon), and the digital conferences in 2020 and 2021. In 2022 the conference was arranged in Naples but was also a digital conference. The study classifies the papers according to methodology, analysis, discussion, and conclusion regarding their contribution to the four paradigmatic boxes. The approach uses the five philosophy of science framework and compares this to the content of the research papers. We will use the findings in four representations of Knowledge, two typologies of concepts, four paradigmatic classifications, and the concluding framework for knowledge management research. The five conferences heavily emphasize knowledge-itis and instrumental itis and much less on problem-itis. The papers are mostly centered around existing Knowledge and accepted methodology and are less related to new problems. The results indicate a conference based upon as-is Knowledge and less upon new and often unsolvable issues. The ECKM academic papers in 2017, 2018, and 2019 have relatively low complexity and are presented in an empirical and materialistic paradigmatic framework through definitive concepts representing a form of atomistic research. The papers in 2020, 2021, and especially 2022 are delivered within a more robust, clarified subjectivity and action research-based framework through definitive and sensitizing concepts. What would ECKM have been with more complexity in action and subjective paradigmatic framework through sensitizing concepts representing holistic research? A more creative, engaged, and relevant conference. It will also be a more scientific conference discussing what is acceptable or not acceptable and what is adequate. Studies concerning sustainability, digitalization, and globalization might require another research approach. The more critical and green papers in the 2020 and 2021 conferences are open to new perspectives on methodology, problems, and Knowledge. The 2021 and 2022 conferences represent a turning point for critical sustainability and digitalization papers that clarify subjectivity through action-based research. The 2021 and 2022 papers represent the turning point of ECKM into improved relevance through more critical and constructed studies based on the societal climate crisis and sustainable strategies and business models. Workplace safety recommendations and regulations are constantly evolving. This paper reviews workplace safety literature on safety culture and inter-organizational knowledge sharing among healthcare organizations. The research question asks, "how does sustainable workplace safety occur in a healthcare" setting? The findings of the literature review assisted in the creation of a model to promote a culture of safety within healthcare fields and moved beyond individual organizations to support sustainable workplace safety practices. The context of hazardous drug handling is used as an example for model application throughout the paper. The C[superscript 2]oST3 model promotes collaboration among and within organizations to promote a "culture of safety" (C[superscript 2]oS) through "transfer" (T), "translation" (T), and "transmission" (T) of knowledge. The colleges and universities in Taiwan are confronted with the following two problems: (1) The average youth (aged 15-29) unemployment rate is more than double the overall unemployment rate; and (2) Mainly affected by the low birth rate, the admission and vacancy rates of colleges and universities have increased, and fierce competition exists among colleges and universities. This paper aims to answer the following two questions raised in Taiwan: (1) Does students' participation in the study opportunities created by university-industry cooperation really help the success rate of future employment? (2) In addition to cultivating cross-discipline talents, how can universities maintain their sustainable competitiveness? Based on a literature review and working experience, the author positively states that internship experience can improve students' employment rates, earnings, and job satisfaction after graduation. After that, several successful internship experiences and governmental promoting measures in Taiwan are mentioned. Four key success factors of internship are also described as follows: a clear structure, meaningful roles, paid internship, and a supportive environment. In terms of the second question, the author argues that the following measures should be taken: (1) Frequent inventory and analysis of the sources and quality distribution of students recruited by every academic unit; (2) Timely analysis of the resource allocation, financial revenue, and expenditure of academic units; (3) Appoint teachers based on expertise, and promote 360-degree feedback in the evaluation of teaching; (4) Strengthen the cultivation of STEM professionals; (5) Develop students' core foundations and transformative competencies; and (6) Appropriately manage world university rankings as needed.

Statistical data, as well as public reports and comments from industry experts, show that the transition of local governments to the digitisation of internal processes has several challenges, mainly related to ensuring sustainability, reducing the impact on the environment, data security, and technical maintenance [2,3]. Therefore, it is essential to assess the situation in local governments and choose the most appropriate support system for Latvia's situation, which would not only be financial support. In public and expert discussions, different visions of the necessary support tools and benefits from the transition of local governments to the digitalisation of internal processes appear. One of the main benefits is reducing paper, which diminishes recycling and resource consumption [5, 6, 11]. The readiness of local government employees for the transition to digitalisation of internal processes has already been written about in previous studies. This study developed four possible scenarios for supporting municipalities in the transition process, and a group of seven experts was selected for their evaluation. The expert survey was conducted in June and July 2023. Five factors influencing the transition were offered for expert evaluation: Technical infrastructure, socialpsychological aspects, legal, security and data protection elements, financial resources, sustainability, and environmental factors. For each group of factors, three factors were suggested to be ranked in order of importance. Then, using the four previously developed support scenarios, the most suitable one was searched using the multi-criteria decision-making method, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The research uses expert surveys, analytical hierarchy process analysis, and statistical data processing methods. As a result of the study, the most suitable support scenario for Latvian municipalities was determined, moving to the digitisation of internal management processes and reducing paper consumption. Going green... So many projects to reduce environmental impact start this way and continue with the first task being to eliminate printed communication and go paperless and digital. All this is not driven by thoughtful environmental considerations, but by an aversion to paper-based communication that is wrongly anchored in the social consciousness. The authors draw attention to the misconceptions that people have about paper-based communication, showing that they are untrue and that they are often used to greenwash the digital world, thus distracting attention from the harmful environmental impact of their own processes. At the same time, they present the facts against the myths, citing scientific sources and reports, as well as their own research. They analyse the real environmental impacts of paper-based communication and the extent to which technology processes meet sustainability requirements. The world of print communication (including the modern printing industry) attaches great importance to sustainability. The Gutenberg galaxy has provided the basis for the development of human knowledge and culture for half a millennium and plans to continue to play this role in the future. It aims to meet the requirements of environmental sustainability, the circular economy and to work with the rest of the supply chain to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper describes digital transformation in Finland from the perspective of a mid-sized university of applied sciences in western Finland, outside the capital city area. Higher education institutions (HEIs) compete amongst themselves, both locally and globally, in terms of student and staff recruitment, government funding, and research funding. In addition, networking with companies and other organizations is a key part of HEIs' strategies and actions. We consider the steps that HEIs have taken toward digital transformation, the drivers behind digital transformation, and the factors that affect HEIs' management strategies. Although the digital transformation process started over 30 years ago, the COVID-19 pandemic has become a major driver of digital transformation in Finnish HEIs. The results of our case study show that an HEI's funding is of critical importance and provides the ground for setting the performance indicators in HEI management. The exclusion carried out by this article is reviewed in terms of abstract and research results. Literature Research is limited to empirical articles or research for ten years (2012-2022), and the main book of a theory is not subject to limitations. Two hundred sixty-nine articles were collected, and the inclusion and exclusion criteria were implemented, totaling 84 articles. The results of this study are (1) the design of sustainable competency development consists of two main constructs, namely tactical dan strategic operation, (2) constructs of school readiness obtained by researchers include literacy knowledge and skills, science knowledge and skills, approaches to learning, (3) sustainable competence is considered capable of increasing school readiness in carrying out the educational process following the 4.0 era, and (4) through the development of sustainable competence the PISA ranking can be restored in stages. One of the most popular topics is education, and this study will also focus on this area. In this research, we will examine examples of social innovation in education and the impact of these practices, with a particular focus on social sustainability. Our aim is to present social innovation programmes and good practices in the national and international field that can be identified as educationally equitable solutions and can be adapted and sustained to enhance well-being, taking into account local needs and demands and the specificities of the community. Within the framework of this study, the good practices examined are presented in a structured way, emphasizing key elements that ensure social sustainability. The study also seeks to answer the question of how the social innovation-based education programmes examined support the process of social sustainability and how these programmes can help to sustain core values. The fact that Indonesia becomes the first country contributing to food loss and food waste among the G20 countries in 2021 is an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability education taught in universities. This study aims to map students' initial knowledge and skills in processing the food waste and to create an integrated food waste management design in a higher education institution. An explanatory sequential mixed method was used in this study involving 641 student respondents for the quantitative phase and three institutions for the qualitative phase. The quantitative phase found that 67.71% of students did not have experience processing organic waste, and their perception about waste segregation benefit is still in the moderate category. However, the index number of students' self-identity is high (80.94) regarding their perception that they had behaved in an environmentally friendly manner. This finding is then communicated with several related institutions during the qualitative phase to develop an integrated sustainability education model outside the formal curriculum to improve students' knowledge and skills in processing food waste. This research explores my social studies teacher educator practice and my attempts to teach about environmental sustainability. The research questions were: How can I get involved in the environmental sustainability movement on my campus as a teacher educator? What obstacles do I face? What actions do I take? Two differing cultural paradigms, with distinct considerations of human-to-land relationships, provide conceptual frames. Through self-study I reflected upon and analyzed my teaching practice from 2019-2022. Data sources include journals, field notes, course-related materials, and formal writings. Findings suggest a dominant social paradigm of industrialized societies presented obstacles while teaching about a land-based cultural paradigm guided my actions. Implications arise for a reconceptualization of relational teacher preparation to include non-human relationships.

This paper is attempted to contribute in the effort to foster business postgraduate students' development towards becoming responsible business leaders. Specifically, this paper is seeking, in Sudan, to examine the state of responsible management education in business postgraduate programs, examine the perception and attitude towards responsible management and responsible management education among MBA and DBA students, and construct a comprehensive framework appropriate for developing responsible management education program in under-developing countries. The data for this study had been gathered through a structured questionnaire. In total, 106 postgraduate business students answered the survey from the largest four business schools or faculties in Sudan. The students are distributed among management, finance and marketing specializations. It is worth mentioning that none of the schools covered is a signatory to the principles of responsible management education developed by UN Global Compact. The students exhibited positive CSR perception and attitude, with a heightened focus on acting ethically and a diminished focus on financial considerations. One of the key lessons learned from this study is the need for continued evolution and development of CSR and ethics more generally across business schools' curriculums in Sudan. The students are seeking the knowledge, skills, exposure and experience they need through responsible management education to be as effective as possible in the real world. Hence, business schools can foster the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society at large. To that end, this paper proposed a co-created and shared value framework conceptualized to develop and implement an effective responsible management education program in business postgraduate programs. This paper explores the role of school gardens in nurturing secondary students' STEM skills and 21st century skills/global competencies. Predominantly, the affordances of garden-based learning are highlighted in fostering students' biodiversity and sustainability consciousness. The positive impact of school gardens as an informal learning setting is promoted which would hopefully motivate teachers to use the garden as an instructional tool in education.

Organization, individuals, and families in Saudi Arabia need more attention on recycling in their daily waste. The average generated daily rate of municipal solid waste is 1.72 kg per capita and the yearly kingdom waste recycling is around 15 million tons. Saudi government set a goal to reach 30million tons per year by 2033. This study examines the awareness level of paper recycling for university students in Saudi Arabia. A survey model consists of 26 measures that concentrated in attitudes, actions, and beliefs, is used. Seventy students in college of engineering at University of Jeddah responded to the survey. Moreover, barriers of adopting recycling paper in Saudi Arabia is analyzed and prioritized using Interpretive Structure Modeling (ISM) software. The findings indicates that the current state level of paper recycling awareness in Saudi Arabia is considered low, the education system does not support this issue, and there is a strong agreement that recycling for individuals and families in Saudi is not easy due to the absence of facilities such as containers and poor infrastructure. Furthermore, it indicates that the barrier “lack of laws that support recycling paper” is considered as the most critical barrier and it influences the rest of barriers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Integrating visual representations in an interactive learning activity effectively scaffolds performance and learning. However, it is unclear whether and how "sustaining" or "interleaving" visual scaffolding helps learners solve problems efficiently and learn from problem solving. We conducted a classroom study with 63 middle-school students in which we tested whether sustaining or interleaving a particular form of visual scaffolding, called anticipatory diagrammatic self-explanation in an Intelligent Tutoring System, helps students' learning and performance in the domain of early algebra. Sustaining visual scaffolding during problem solving helped students solve problems efficiently with no negative effects on learning. However, in-depth log data analyses suggest that interleaving visual scaffolding allowed students to practice important skills that may help them in later phases of algebra learning. This paper extends scientific understanding that sustaining visual scaffold does not over-scaffold student learning in the early phase of skill acquisition in algebra. We are now in a knowledge-based age and economy. Through this new era, we have seen the ascension of socioeconomic globalization, or the interconnectedness of the world economies. The vast reach of globalization and technology have had both positive and negative effects on adult, continuing, and postsecondary education. For instance, college access is at an all-time high (Kenworthy and Marx, 2017) as globalization and technology have revolutionized access to education, yet, there are still ever-growing disparities in wealth and socioeconomic mobility across the globe (Atkinson and Lakner, 2013). In response to this, this paper suggests the theories of Human Capital, Resilience, Family Systems, and Humanistic Adult Learning can be combined to make a holistic integrative model. The researchers of this paper have hypothesized that this integrative model is profoundly relevant and incorporate foundational elements that adult, continuing, postsecondary education students ought to master to achieve sustainable intergenerational socioeconomic mobility; and therefore, help combat the negative effects (implicit and explicit) of globalization and technology (Bastedo, Altbach, & Gumport, 2016) (Doménech-Betoret, Abellán-Roselló, and Gómez-Artiga, A. 2017). This qualitative descriptive analysis aims to interpret the complexity of the science items that are integrated with environmental sustainability content. This research was conducted on science test items in the 2013 Curriculum student science textbooks released by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. This study focuses on finding out the complexity of the scenario-based science test contained in science textbooks based on the complexity category indicators of the 2018 PISA global competency test. The data was obtained using an instrument adopted from the test complexity indicator and environmental sustainability content indicators contained in the 2018 PISA Framework. The data analysis technique uses the percentage formula to determine the proportion. The results of this study indicate that the proportion of science test items is different from the standard proportion of the 2018 PISA global competency test. The subdomains measured in the 2018 PISA global competence are; the resource risk subdomain and subdomains of policies, practices, and behaviors for environmental sustainability. However, science test items cover only the resource risk subdomain. Therefore, the researcher recommends further research to develop science test items that consider the complexity of the test according to the goals of students' global competence. In practice, adult basic education activities are educational activities that adults engage in systematically so they can gain new forms of knowledge, skills, attitudes, or values for self-sustenance to ensure self-improvement and national development. Achieving these requires an appropriate approach which is vital for the participation of learners to ensure transformational results. However, the plague of COVID-19 created a disorientating dilemma for facilitators around the world, especially in developing countries like Nigeria, with little or no alternatives to regular physical contact learning-delivery systems using digital learning approaches. This imposed paradigm shift has created the need for flexible, adaptable, and sustainable delivery of adult basic education in Nigeria, while we await full utilization of digital learning. An adaptable Transformative learning delivery model which uses a blend of both transformative learning and each-one-teach-one approaches is proposed to achieve the dual-aim of adult basic education. The proposed learning-delivery model to be implemented by adult educators in Nigeria as well as other developing countries will assist learners to become active citizens for self-improvement and national development. This model suggests that facilitators will utilize the full participation of learners through their conscious and concerted efforts towards learning. In addition, facilitating learning with this model will show continual effort to attain sustainability of adult basic education, even in the advent of national or global uncertainties like COVID-19. This conceptual paper provides an innovative categorization of "others" for the variable of "faith in others (FIO)". Adopted by pro-environmental and sustainability literature, FIO refers to faith in the efficacy of other actors. Examination and integration of theories on sustainable pro-environmental behavior leads to the proposition, that "others" can be segmented into two main categories. The two main categories are biospheric, and non-biospheric others, with non-biospheric others including the sub-categories of independent, and organizational others. How an individual perceives the efficacy of "others", and the influence which these perceptions may have upon an individual's behavior, is also addressed. Thus, this paper contributes to a better understanding of the underlying influences of sustainable behavior, providing keys to improving business and policy strategies for sustainability and sustainable behavior. One of the most important measures in manufacturing industry is Overall Equipment Effectiveness, commonly termed as OEE, it also indicates the degree to which a manufacturing process is truly productive and serves as a general and inclusive measurement of how well a company's manufacturing operations are performing. Optimization of OEE factors provides significant impact to the organization through efficient operations, cost effectiveness, gaining competitive advantage in the market and to provide sustainable supply of products. Optimization is providing sustainable solutions to the problems identified through root cause analysis through total productive maintenance or lean manufacturing methods or techniques towards the goal of zero to minimal wastage. With the applications of these methods the researcher was able to identify the critical issues and solved the issues affecting the overall equipment effectiveness of the subject company. The researcher was also able to propose a systematic roadmap to implement lean and TPM for the subject company that will ensure and sustain the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the organization. This study revisits the seminal question of the effectiveness of education for sustainable development (ESD) by adopting a novel approach. Little is known about the effects of ESD as a teaching approach to develop students' action competence for sustainability. This study therefore adopts a three-wave longitudinal design, tapping into the development of 760 Swedish upper secondary students' action competence for sustainability related to their experience of ESD teaching. We can conclude that ESD has an effect on the students' action competence for sustainability. Our results show that it is possible to promote students' action competence through ESD, but our findings also reveal that such a development process takes time and thus the contribution of longitudinal research is important.

This paper reports on a mathematics intervention initiative, "Prepare 2 Learn," designed taking into account research literature and elements of other successful programs. The program was intended to prepare students for their upcoming mainstream mathematics lessons as well as make them aware of the impact they can have on their own learning through their actions and attitudes. The intervention resulted in the students reaching the expected standard or beyond for their year level as well as positively changing the way they saw themselves as mathematics learners. The following paper focuses on sustainable changes to one students' mathematics learning and disposition.

This paper contemplates the way children exist, interact and intra-act with their worlds. It seeks to think differently about data and engages with the work of Deleuze, particularly grappling with his conception of 'becoming' and the ways in which children name their worlds and intra-act with natural entities. The paper emerged from conversations that occurred within a research collective and is informed by this collective's broader research theme, world-naming. It also considers the Deleuzian notion of sense as it explores a single piece of data: a song created and performed by one child, recorded in her bedroom on the family iPad. The song is about the bush and the importance of trees.

Addressing the worldwide challenges threatening humanity today, such as the global pandemic and climate change, requires learning and action at scales including and extending far beyond personal development. The concept of andragogy popularized by Malcolm Knowles focuses on the individual and does not attend to wider social contexts and collective learning. Achieving the necessary transformations to avert cascading collapses--and keeping up courage for the endeavor--necessitates a new conceptualization, an andragogy of hope. The Global Network of Learning Cities may be one of the best examples where key features of an andragogy of hope are already emerging. There are gaps between those that are able to benefit from the internet and those who are not. There have been powerful global movements, including a series of intergovernmental summits, conducted to close the digital divide. The movements formulated solutions in public policy, technology design, finance and management that would allow all connected citizens to benefit equitably as a global digital economy spreads into far corners of the world population. But the gap remains unabated in the Developing World. This work identified major attributes of the Developing World vis-a-vis the digitalization of the community; and examined the specific impacts of the digital divide on contemporary adult education and its future. Nigeria is used as a case study. The study made commendations for eliminating digital divide to propel advancement in adult education in the Developing World. The study is descriptive. Government policies and programmes on Internet and Telecommunication Technology (ICT) were examined. School programmes and practices on ICT were studied. 25 individual adults drawn across Nigeria were interviewed to determine their level of digital literacy, and challenges. They also made suggestions. The Third World are least connected with no indications for immediate integrated closure. Low literacy, poor economy, poor infrastructures and government ineptitudes, among others, constitute major reasons for the divide. Massive investment in ICT and infrastructures, and tremendously purposeful training of facilitators that will impart the knowledge and skills are desirable. These proceedings contain the papers of the 18th International Conference on Cognition and Exploratory Learning in the Digital Age (CELDA 2021), held virtually, due to an exceptional situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, from October 13-15, 2021, and organized by the International Association for Development of the Information Society (IADIS). Sustainability is seen as an innovation driver in the cosmetics industry (Seo and Scammon, 2017, p. 358). However, the specific features and marketing slogans that influence decisions to purchase cosmetic products are still unknown. This paper presents an experimental study using the example of moist nail-polish remover pads. It investigates the impact on purchasing decisions of sustainability claims, like '100% organic cotton pad', 'microplastic-free', 'vegan' and 'jar partly made of recycled materials', compared with key product aspects such as jar size and fragrance. The choice-based conjoint analysis aims to identify the relevance of sustainability attributes for cosmetics. This study confirms the hypothesis of earlier studies that consumers give high priority to sustainability attributes and are willing to switch to more sustainable products of equal price. A new finding from the current study is that the claim, 'microplastic-free', contributes most to consumer purchase probability. This result could be applied to future product management and customer communications to create new purchase incentives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper is about the experience of teaching Assembly for Disassembly to fourth year architect students within the module of sustainable design. When designing a sustainable building one should take into consideration the fact that the building is going to be demolished in some years; thus the materials should be assembled in such a way so that the building is not just demolished, but disassembled in a practical way, so that its items and materials can be reused or at least be recycled in other buildings or products or be decomposed. Yet, the structure should be safe during its lifetime. With this technology, the building's sustainability spans also to its "grave". In this paper the methodology for teaching students how to design for the disassembly of buildings is presented. Apart from the respective lectures, the fourth year students have been asked to design a small home for a homeless person, following, apart from bioclimatic design and the zero-CO[subscript 2] building design, an "assembly for disassembly" design. They have also been encouraged to use, apart from conventional building materials, materials that could be collected from municipal waste, provided they have a small environmental footprint. Frequent tutorials are made during this project. Different groups of students have followed different concepts in their design; some students have focused on the assembly for disassembly of a home from municipal waste, others from construction materials, while others, apart from assembly for disassembly, have also taken into consideration the movability of their design as well as its incorporation in the urban tissue. Although a strategy for business innovation is to turn a concept into something that's desirable, viable, commercially successful and that which adds value to people's lives but in the fast changing world, we are seeing weakening of relationship between product, user and the environment, thereby causing sustainability issues. A concrete futuristic vision will give overall direction to the efforts; it will also help us channel our energy and resources collectively for a more planned and sustainable future. This paper looks at various future research methods (forecasting techniques) used in the industry and evaluates their relevance and application to designing. The authors identified the importance of factors such as discovery of newer material properties, latest advances in technology realizabil ity, socio-economic trends, cultural paradigms, etc. that have impacted the course of design visualization for the future. Thus, the available forecasting methods fall underthese three paradigms:--Technological, People-social, and Environmental paradigms:--l. Lastly, this paper identifies a need for coherent forecasting mechanism which makes the product designs of future more predictable, viable and thus, promote sustainability at large. This paper offers specific implications for teaching and learning and brings into conversation ideas from ethnomathematics (including Western mathematics), postcolonial theory, aesthetics, biology, and Indigenous knowledge in order to propose a new vision for practicing mathematics, what I call mathematx. I build upon the work of sustainability in mathematics education and suggest we need to think not only about more ethical ways of applying mathematics in teaching and learning but question the very nature of mathematics, who does it, and how we are affected by that practice. In Australia, the impacts of urbanisation and human activity are evident in increased waste generation and the emissions of metals into the air, land or water. Metals that have accumulated in urban soils almost exclusively anthropogenically can persist for long periods in the environment. Anthropogenic waste emissions containing heavy metals are a significant exposure pathway for urban soils. The purpose of this paper is to present indicators of sustainability for assessing the environmental health risk from exposure of urban soils to anthropogenic waste emissions containing lead, copper, zinc and chromium. By benchmarking urban surface soil concentrations of these four metals against Australian and international Soil Standards, a data set of indicators of sustainability can be construed for evaluating the potential long-term environmental health risks posed by continued exposure of urban soils to heavy metals.
