Scoliosis patients face problems like difficult ambulation and weak sit tolerance comparing to healthy people. In addition, scoliosis has potential to cause respiratory and neurological complications that seriously affect life quality. Treatments like Schroth best practice(SBP) are effective for scoliosis but need professional guidance. In this paper, we propose SpineCurer(SC), an inertial measurement unit(IMU) based scoliosis training system. The system detects the patient's posture in real time based on IMU, so that the patient can train without supervision. SC integrates two interaction games to assist training. We conducted a user study to evaluate the usability and effectiveness of the system, which showed a positive effect in assisting scoliosis treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper relevance is determined by the fact that the Russian state educational policy is aimed at ensuring quality of education at all levels. The issue of a need for high-quality educational process requires the system of education to change traditional approaches to education in general. Therefore, the study is aimed at checking the efficiency of ergonomic conditions, meant for improvement of the quality of younger schoolchildren education, their identification and testing. Meeting the study objective required conducting an experiment, applying an expert evaluation method and a mathematical statistics method - Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. The study results show that ergonomic conditions of the training of younger schoolchildren facilitate improvement of the school educational process, make the process of comprehensive development of the person and his/her individual traits efficient, provides for proper training of the younger generation in a safe and developing environment and maintain the health of younger schoolchildren and prevent study-related diseases (short-sightedness, scoliosis, etc.). Practical relevance of the study results lies in the fact that the study materials have served a basis for developing methodological recommendations for students of pedagogical majors on ensuring the training of younger schoolchildren with ergonomic conditions, which can be used in practices of primary school teachers, educational psychologists, social care teachers, as well as in the system of advanced training of teaching staff. Implementation of ergonomic conditions in educational institutions also offers new opportunities in training both of younger schoolchildren and of trainees of different age groups and with different educational needs. Background The aim of this paper is to study the role of kinetic rehabilitation treatment of idiopathic scoliosis with a Cobb angle less than 40° in junior football players. Cobb angle method was used to measure lateral curve severity in scoliosis so the main goal was to improve the scoliosis curvature and correct the associated hyperlordosis or khyphosis at the patients. Methods This study consist in a group of 10 patients, aged by 12 to 17, with lumbar scoliosis was performed in Bunavestire Rehabilitation Hospital in Craiova between february and april 2018. We studied the therapy effect for 3 months, 7 of 10 patients benefited from kinetic treatment while the other 3 were given electrotherapy sessions. Clinical and functional assessment was performed using the Adam's forward bend test, the plumb line test and X-ray exam showing the size of the Cobb angle. The assessments was made first day of physical exam and after 3 months of therapy. Results Analyzing the clinical trial related by age, there was a higher incidence of scoliosis in children aged 15. Cobb angle test reveals that most of the patients had a 25° scoliosis, representing 40% in terms of the curvature severity of the spine. 7 of them who received kinetic therapy for 3 months has Cobb angle reduced by 20-25 degrees and 3 patients from the study group have the spine curvature completely reduced! At the end of the kinetic treatment 4 patients with idiopathic scoliosis has hyperlordosis or kyphosis curvature reduced significantly. Three months of electrotherapy shows no significant decrease of the Cobb angle, but the benefits to the patient consists in pain relief and muscle relaxation. Conclusions Kinetic treatment has improved articular mobility and posture, reduced the scoliosis curvature decreasing Cobb angle while electrotherapy sessions has an antialgic and decontracturant effects but no significant results in reduced Cobb angle measurements. In a recent study, a new ergonomic memory foam cervical curve pillow was developed specifically for scoliosis patients to alleviate discomfort and improve sleep quality. This pillow, made with alternative organic wool material, aimed to provide better support and comfort for individuals with scoliosis. The study found that the proposed pillow significantly reduced discomfort and pain compared to traditional pillows, leading to improved sleep quality for patients. Data collected through survey questionnaires and focus interviews supported these findings, with a paired t-test analysis confirming the pillow's effectiveness. The study recommended the integration of this ergonomic pillow into scoliosis pain management practices, emphasizing the importance of consulting healthcare professionals before use. Leg length discrepancy (LLD) is caused either due to functional disorder or shortening of bone structure. This disorder could contribute to the significant effects on body weight distribution and lumbar scoliosis at the certain extend. Ground reaction force and joint reaction force are the parameters that can be used to analyze the responses in weight distribution and kinetics changes on the body joints, respectively. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to review the studies that focus on the clinical effects of LLD to the lower limb and spine through ground and joint reaction force responses that could lead to the orthopedics disorder. This paper aims to highlight aspects regarding the body weight distribution on the inferior limbs so as to render objective the youth's deficient attitudes. The study's objective is to compare the plantar pressure parameters in static and dynamic balance for subjects with scoliosis and healthy subjects. It is considered that subjects with scoliosis attitude have a different map of the plantar pressure than healthy ones. The presented data in this study are initials, the research being underway. Research is conducted according to the schedule: pretest-kinetic application programs-posttest. Postural assessment is performed with the purpose of diagnosing the mechanical loads deviations from the pelvis and spine in order to optimize the kinetic programs by basketball specific means. The introduction of the basketball means in the kinetic programs was made in order to diversify the classic exercises for prevention/recovery of the deficient spine attitudes. The techniques process of the basketball game, seen as a associated means of physical therapy, represents an innovative approach to postural prevention. In this regard, PedarX system was used, which measures the interaction between the foot, shoe and ground through sensors. The data transmitted are observed in real time on the screen, followed by an analysis of the data. The Pedar X system adds dates regarding distribution of the foot pressures to kinematics analysis. These pieces of information are particularly useful in evaluation of the dynamics movement, also posture. The results obtained showed that the shape of the plantar surface and of the stability area size in scoliosis subjects is modified compared to the plantar pressure map for healthy subjects. Rehabilitation at home has many advantages, both in terms of increased efficiency of health service and comfort for the patient. The monitoring of any human physiological parameters in home environment has the primary need to be non-invasive for the patient and at the same time motivating. This paper describes a wearable system for monitoring physiological posture during rehabilitation exercises to the spine in patients with mild scoliosis. The system can measure the posture of the subject through a sensorized T-shirt, which uses an inductive sensor. This article reports the conceptual framework and the description of the first fabricated device. The preliminary experimental results are reported and compared with the results obtained via an optical system that measures the position of markers over the patient's back. The instrumented T-shirt, integrated with an appropriate conditioning and transmission electronics, could be used as a remote support tool and as a feedback system for the identification of the patient's correct posture. This paper proposed an approach for estimating 3D orientation of a vertebra given its 3D model and 2D biplanar radiographs. The estimation was based on the Hough transform technique to match the projections of the standard 3D primitive with the vertebral contours in biplanar radiographs, where the projected contours were generated from the 3D model by sampling the viewing sphere with a hierarchical scheme. The average computing time was 9.5 minutes. Seventeen vertebral models were used to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method. Results showed that the mean of the estimation errors was 3.9°. It indicates that this approach may help orthopedic surgeons measure the vertebral orientation from 2D radiographs for better assessment of scoliosis. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This study investigates the efficacy of an online medical forum, the National Scoliosis Forum Foundation (NSFF). Quantitative and qualitative data was gathered through content analysis of 36 thread topics aggregating 499 posts, posted by 87 members within one month. The findings revealed that while the users of NSFF share their medical information (including severity of condition and experience with pain and various treatments) as well as actively provide feedback to one another's post (97% of threads received responses from other members), the forum failed to support teen use, i.e. the participation is dominated by adults. Therefore the platform does not encourage participation by the demographic most afflicted by Scoliosis, adolescents. Provoking some hope, the results show that despite less involvement from teen members, who are the target age group, there is a more consistent readership both of adolescent authors and within the adolescent forum. Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person's spine is curved from side to side. Current methodology of diagnosis of scoliosis: The doctors analyze an X-ray image and determine the cobb angle and vertebral twist. These two parameters are critical in the treatment of scoliosis. Bottlenecks associated with current methodology are inherent errors associated with manual measurement of cobb angle and vertebral twist from X-rays by the concerned doctors and the treatment that is meted out to a particular case of 'cobb angle' and vertebral twist by different doctors may differ with varying results. Hence it becomes imperative to select the best treatment procedure for attaining the best results. Highlights of the new methodology proposed: An X-ray image is accepted as input, Cobb angle is measured by the computer which is programmed to do so, thus eliminating the errors associated with the doctors interpretation.
