This paper proposes a Programmable Logical Control (PLC) based automated railway crossing gate control system. The existing conventional railway crossing gate control system in Bangladesh is being operated manually which causes increasing amount of accidents at the crossings due to the carelessness in manual operation. Also, manual mechanism is time consuming. The gate controlling mechanism should be carried out ensuring safety to the road users and guarantying less time during gate opening and closing process. In this work, a prototype road and rail line model with automated railway level crossing gate controlling mechanism has been designed and implemented. At the train's level crossing arrival and departure side, a set of photoelectric sensors are strategically placed. Also for detecting any obstacles, reflective type photoelectric sensors are used strategically. Technology has been a driving force in changing the society of the developing Nations in Asia. Technology in healthcare is one of those various applications areas. Women in remote areas of developing nations are subject to lack of adequate healthcare facilities and specialist doctors. One of the commonest forms of cancer in women worldwide is Uterine Cervical Cancer. Most cases of cervical cancer can be prevented through screening programs aimed at detecting precancerous lesions. Due to lack of the gyneco-oncologists in those resource less regions, the women are not treated early which often leads to Cervical Interepithelial Neoplasia(CIN) or cancerous lesions and proves fatal. In this paper, we have proposed an automated system to detect the cervical lesions which may be used by trained health workers to these affected people in remote locations. On detection of the lesions by our system, the affected patients may be called to the cities for further treatment by the specialist doctors. The reference stations of GNSS augmentation systems including GBAS (Ground Based Augmentation System) and SBAS (Space Based Augmentation System) are designed to provide correction and integrity information for airborne users so that they can estimate the positions accurately and reliably using GNSS signal measurements. Therefore the integrity monitoring algorithms of the reference stations should detect and exclude GNSS signals with faults or anomalies which could cause user position errors. Normally, the detection thresholds are determined based on the nominal data collected during the site assessment and installation process assuming that there will be no critical environmental changes that impact on the test statistics of integrity monitoring algorithms. However, the characteristics of the test statistics could change in case of new constructions or RF interference nearby, which could induce higher continuity and integrity risk than allocated to the monitor. In order to prevent it and establish updated thresholds, this paper proposes an automated fault detection threshold determination procedure and environment change indicators. Performance of applications executed on large parallel systems suffer due to load imbalance. Load balancing is required to scale such applications to large systems. However, performing load balancing incurs a cost which may not be known a priori. In addition, application characteristics may change due to its dynamic nature and the parallel system used for execution. As a result, deciding when to balance the load to obtain the best performance is challenging. Existing approaches put this burden on the users, who rely on educated guess and extrapolation techniques to decide on a reasonable load balancing period, which may not be feasible and efficient. In this paper, we propose the Meta-Balancer framework which relieves the application programmers of deciding when to balance load. By continuously monitoring the application characteristics and using a set of guiding principles, Meta-Balancer invokes load balancing on its own without any prior application knowledge. We demonstrate that Meta-Balancer improves or matches the best performance that can be obtained by fine tuning periodic load balancing. We also show that in some cases Meta-Balancer improves performance by 18% whereas periodic load balancing gives only a 1.5% benefit. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The paper presents an automated concept of a potato sizing equipment. The technological flow is represented by dimension charts done in the software CATIA v5 r18. The classical technological flows of potato sizing are rigid systems, but modern systems are flexible and have modular construction. Modular construction has the advantage that when a component of the equipment breaks out, it can be moved away and thus not affecting the entire equipment. As we move towards the exascale era, power and energy have become major challenges. Some of the supercomputers draw more than 10 megawatts, leading to high energy bills. A significant portion of this energy is spent in cooling. In this paper, we propose an adaptive control system that minimizes the cooling energy by using Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling to control the temperature and performing load balancing. This framework, which is a part of the adaptive runtime system, monitors the system and application characteristics and triggers mechanism to limit the temperature. It also performs load balancing whenever imbalance is detected and load balancing is beneficial. We demonstrate, using a set of applications and benchmarks, that the proposed framework can control the temperature of the cores effectively and reduce the timing penalty automatically without any support from the user. To inspect medical capsules with one-dose package (ODP), we propose an automated inspection system based on computer vision. In the proposed system, we capture both-side of capsules at once and apply hierarchical recognition. In this paper, we report several results of preliminary experiments, which distinguish 9 kinds of capsules. As a result, we have achieved 99.1 percent recognition rate and discuss its validity. In this paper, a telemedicine system for managing diabetic patients with better care is presented. The system is an end to end solution which relies on the integration of front end (patient unit) and backend web server. A key feature of the system developed is the very low cost automated approach. The front-end of the system is capable of reading glucose measurements from any glucose meter and sending them automatically via existing networks to the back-end server. The back-end is designed and developed using n-tier web client architecture based on model-view-controller design pattern using open source technology, a cost effective solution. The back-end helps the health-care provider with data analysis; data visualization and decision support, and allows them to send feedback and therapeutic advice to patients from anywhere using a browser enabled device. We propose a method to create large-scale Japanese medical dictionaries that include symptom names and information about the relationship between a disease and its symptoms using a large web archive that includes large amounts of text written by non-medical experts. Our goal is to develop a diagnosis support system that makes a diagnosis according to the natural language (NL) inputs provided by patients. To achieve this, two medical dictionaries need to be constructed: one that includes a wide variety of symptom names expressed in NL and another that includes information about the relationship between a disease and its symptoms. Dictionaries will then be used to predict the patient’s disease via two developed methods that extract symptom names and disease–symptom relationships. Both methods retrieve sentences using WISDOM X and then apply neural classifiers to them. Our experimental results show that our methods achieved 93.8% and 88.3% in the F1-score, respectively. The main aim of the study was to show a modern mineralogical approach in mineral processing studies on the example of Karakul polymetallic deposit (Russia). Initial question of the study was to quantitatively evaluate Co, Bi, W and Cu mineralogy, association, distribution and granulometry. The study was performed by using the modern approaches of automated mineralogy, particularly MLA (Mineral Liberation Analyser). Within the study the Co, Bi, W and Cu phases of ore from Karakul deposit were studied from the beneficiation point of view (phase's occurrence, quantity, association, liberation and grain size distribution). As well the recommendations for the beneficiation process workflow were stated on the bases of the study results. The study showed that automated mineralogy approach in addition to the main mineralogical data gives quantitative statistic information on commodity minerals, with varying composition, quantitative characteristics of liberation, grain sizes and shapes. Gyrotheodolite is a measuring instrument to determine precise true azimuth. During the course of measurement, rough north-finding and precise north-finding are two necessary steps. The two steps used to adopt different methods to carry out, which increases the complexity and difficulty for automated north-finding and also extends the measuring time. Here, we evaluate a novel approach that unifies rough north-finding and precise north-finding in one algorithm. The cursor data of gyro motion can not be collected for enough period of oscillation in any initial azimuth of gyrotheodolite. Based on gyro characteristics of motion, the trend projection method is put forward to predict the whole period of movement data with a small or enough part of captured cursor data by using nonlinear regression. With this method, the north-finding result can be calculated in any initial azimuth for fixed collimation of gyrotheodolite. By automated design of the system, the gyrotheodolite will automatically approach true north gradually in terms of north-finding results until it reaches precise true north.
