Service orientation has significantly facilitated the development of complex distributed systems spanning multiple organizations. However, different application areas approach such systems in domain-specific ways, focusing on particular aspects relevant only for their application types. As a result, we observe a very fragmented landscape of service-oriented systems, which does not enable collaboration across organizations. To address this concern, in this work we introduce the notion of Collaborative, Dynamic and Complex (CDC) systems and position them with respect to existing technologies. In addition, we present how CDC systems are modeled and the steps to provision and execute them. We also contribute an architecture enabling CDC Systems with full life cycle coverage that allows for leveraging service-oriented and Cloud-related technologies. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

According to the need of nuclear fuel calculation software development, a business process model is established in this paper, based on the domain modeling theory and goal modeling technology. The model simplifies the behavior of business subjects and objects, and focus on the calculation process and model. This paper designs a tool to build this business model. The tool separates the calculating process and model, adapts to the change of business model and improves the efficiency of business modeling on the nuclear fuel calculation domain. The work presented in this paper is articulated around COM, a components model which represents the Microsoft standard for the development of reusable and communicating components. COM establishes a binary standard of writing of components and standardizes the communication between objects. However, it is not appropriate for the description of the applications to high availability like the banking applications, and the services of telecommunication which require an adaptation which must be carried out by disturbing the least possible application. We propose in this article ScriptCOM, a model of adaptable components COM. The originality of this model is to be extensible towards the model COM while respecting our needs. Business Process (BP) metrics are used for controlling the quality and improving models. We give an overview of the existing metrics for describing various aspects of BP models. We propose simple yet practical square metrics for describing complexity of a BP model. These metrics are easy to interpret and provide some basic information about the structural complexity of the model. As a result of new business demands and technological advances processes are becoming increasingly complex and heterogeneous. This calls for business processes that must be managed in an autonomic manner in response to changes in its environmental context. However, a key challenge is to provide variability, understandability and scalability in modeling increasingly complex business processes. In our work we rely on explicit representation of environment variability through context-awareness and quality attributes in order to properly represent autonomic features in Business Process Models. We outline a process that helps to define the modularity of the Business Process Models, indicating where the system needs to be instrumented. A meta-model with the concepts used is presented. This novel approach provides four well-defined levels of abstraction: Communicational Level, Technological Level, Operational Level and Service Level. This work gives an overview of the future research challenges on enabling technologies for service-based applications that have been identified in the network of excellence S-Cube. Service-based applications comprise three layers: business processes, service compositions and services and service infrastructures.
