ABSTRACT The poster will present a summary of the arguments and topics raised in protest and support letters against the forthcoming closure of the Department for Information Science at the University of Duesseldorf, Germany. Case study-like this will shed light on how peers and stakeholders perceive the role and relevance of information science in general as well as the contribution of the Duesseldorf Department in particular. The poster aims, however, at providing a historical description on the actions taken and the arguments made. It will rather present indicators than significant evidence about perceptions of information science. The results of the small-scale topical analyses of the support letters, tweets, and comments to an online petition reveal that typical fields like information retrieval and knowledge management as well as skills like research or assessment of information are seen as assets of information scientists. Typically, information scientists research videos and blogs, two types of online content, with the aim to understand the information behaviors and activities of those who seek and use such sources. Yet, beginning to understand the set of information-intensive behaviors and activities that accompany online content creation is equally important. This poster presents an early case study of one self-designated "Original Content Creator," OrganizedLikeJen, a social media personality found on YouTube-- as well as on sites like Tumblr, WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest-- whose uploads often have an information-related focus. The objective of this poster is to understand how OrganizedLikeJen might proffer a gateway to the investigation of several topics little taken up in current literature. What are possible information producing and sharing behaviors in these forums? What are possible information-centric work practices in these forums? This study investigates how students learn to collaborate in a guided discovery-based program of game design learning, and how e-learning systems and environmental supports afford collaboration. We address how students self-initiate and strategize collaborative practices to achieve a projectbased learning goal, and how they interact with peers, teachers, and technology to develop a shared understanding of the primary game design task. We also consider student engagement in the meta-processes that support this task's completion, such as delegation, teamwork, and resource use. The methods applied include two main steps - categorical analysis of 18 teams' interview transcripts and in depth case study analysis of four teams' interview responses and process artifacts, with a focus on the themes that are identified from the first step. We propose an initial framework outlining general dimensions of collaborative information behavior for knowledge building contexts. And we conclude with questions for future research. ABSTRACT Open innovation (sometimes also called design thinking, user participation or co-creation) means the participation of an institution's stakeholders (customers, suppliers, competitors, etc.) in its innovation processes. Concerning libraries, open innovation integrates the views of users (as customers), software houses or design companies (as suppliers) as well as other libraries (as competitors) into the development strategy of a library. Innovation processes include information inflows (application of external knowledge in the innovating library) and information outflows (dissemination of internal knowledge for reuse in other institutions). Innovations happen on a large scale (for instance, planning new library buildings) as well as on a small scale (e.g., modifying an existing library service). The poster will present the open innovation framework, methods used, results of a questionnaire and will introduce paradigmatic case studies of open innovation in libraries.
