The knowledge sharing among researchers, decision makers and practitioners becomes necessary for understanding new transportation trends and incorporating innovative transportation strategies in urban planning according to the economic competitiveness and business needs. The paper presents the tools and activities used in the frame of the “Enhancing excellence and innovation capacity in sustainable transport interchanges” (ALLIANCE) project in order to make knowledge sharing among project partners and stakeholders effective and sustainable. The paper goal is to define the framework to measure the effectiveness of the knowledge sharing activities with linkage to the general H2020 TWINNING programme goals, Transport and Telecommunication Institute (Latvia) Research programme for 2016−2020 and specific goals of the ALLIANCE project. The 4th International Symposium for Arctic Research (ISAR-4) with the theme of “Rapid change of the Arctic climate system and its global influence” was held as the science symposium of the Arctic Science Summit Week 2015, together with the 3rd International Conference for Arctic Research Planning (ICARPIII) with the theme of “Integrating Arctic Research: a Roadmap for the Future,” in Toyama, Japan, from April 27 to April 30, 2015. There were 340 oral and 177 poster presentations, totalling 511 presentations. Abstract: It is predicted that in case of an influenza pandemic, there will be a significant gap between potentially available vaccine supply and international demand. This paved the way for a WHO Global Pandemic Influenza Action Plan (GAP) aiming at increasing the world''s production capacity for pandemic vaccine. In November 2006, six developing country manufacturers were awarded grants either to develop processes for production of inactivated or live attenuated seasonal and/or H5N1 influenza vaccines or for establishing filling facilities using imported antigens. In April 2009, spread of a new H1N1 influenza virus was identified which took a pandemic form. This paper gives an overview of influenza vaccine capacity building of developing country''s manufacturers identified in WHO''s GAP. Further, an account of developments at Serum Institute of India Limited (SIIL), one of recipients of WHO grant to develop pandemic influenza vaccine, are presented as a case study. Such initiatives have strengthened developing country vaccine manufacturers ability to respond to a pandemic situation in the future. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Ignoring the indirect effects of vaccination has led to two types of inaccuracies in cholera vaccine policy analysis in endemic settings. First, when herd protection is ignored, the social benefits and cost-effectiveness of vaccination programs are underestimated, such that the programs are rarely considered to be a wise use of scarce public health resources. Once vaccine herd protection is included, use of the vaccine can satisfy both social welfare objectives and benchmark cost effectiveness criteria. Second, design recommendations to implement programs considered most attractive without accounting for the effect of herd protection may not allow the capture of the greatest social benefits. The analysis summarized in this paper demonstrates that it is possible to account for herd protection in both cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit calculations. In the former case, however, it does pose significant interpretation challenges. When herd protection is incorporated into a cost-effectiveness model, cost-effectiveness measures such as costs per DALY avoided become a function of vaccination coverage. When this is the case, there is no obvious decision objective in a cost-effectiveness analysis. Cost-benefit metrics, on the other hand, provide a clear economic argument for when to pursue vaccination efforts and how to design them. More sophisticated measurements of the economic benefits of vaccination should therefore become standard practice when evaluating the potential of vaccination programs. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
