The constructs of diversity, equity, and inclusion are complex and the DEI movement evokes a variety of strikingly different feelings and responses. One of the challenges to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives is that people often have very different views on these endeavors. In this short paper, I offer a concise, global perspective on the conceptualization of diversity, equity, and inclusion that might provide a method for communicating across differences. Though the DEI movement, and associated movements such as the DEI and belongingness movement and the DEI and access movements are important, the length of this paper does not allow for a discussion of these topics. I conclude this paper with a defense of diversity, equity, and inclusion and a discussion of implications for the physics community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rebuilding is a prominent theme in a post pandemic era where economies are looking to attract all opportunities to recover. Tourism has always been a key driver to boost economies particularly in countries which are rich in cultural diversity and natural beauty. South Africa, which already has a thriving tourism industry, has seen an increase in medical tourists who are motivated by the desire to avoid high healthcare costs, long wait times for services and specific procedures that are not offered in their own countries. South Africa's private healthcare system is world-class for medical tourism because it is supported by a thriving medical insurance market. The rise of medical tourism in South Africa has stemmed from synergies formed with the private sector healthcare system because of the growth of tourism. Currently, only private sector hospitals are involved in rendering services related to medical tourism. The current rollout of the National Health Insurance (NHI) poses as an opportunity for the public healthcare sector to also benefit from the revenue generated by medical tourism, however there are challenges that exist that must be alleviated. This paper will begin with an overview of the medical tourism and healthcare sectors in South Africa based on secondary research conducted. Thereafter the empirical data highlighting challenges experienced at selected public central hospitals in South Africa will be presented. The paper will then explore the collaboration potential of the tourism and healthcare industries to overcome the challenges presented. Recommendations will be contributory in highlighting the need for revenue to restore trust in the public healthcare sector and boost medical tourism. The empirical study, through adopting a descriptive exploratory paradigm, emphasises the quantitative method used to gather data from a purposive sample with the use of a questionnaire. Data collected from 322 respondents revealed that the daily challenges, underpinned by a severe lack of funding at the selected public central hospitals in South Africa, inhibit high quality service delivery, making the public healthcare sector an undesirable option for medical tourism. The feeling of profound disorientation experienced by an individual when encountering a foreign culture is designated in the specialized literature as culture shock. It represents a traumatizing experience described by explorers and missionaries who arrived in places where completely unfamiliar languages were spoken and where customs and traditions were strange. But the acceptance into a new culture largely depends on the immigrant's willingness and ability to communicate with members of the culture in accordance with their cultural norms and conventions. Acceptance is accelerated when the immigrant makes an effort to learn the local language and communicate regularly with the local people thus becomes familiar with their beliefs and cultural values. The article delves into the evolution of perspectives on cultural anthropology and its significance within the military operational environment. It emphasizes the importance of understanding and incorporating cultural elements into the planning and execution of military operations, particularly by analyzing interactions among diverse cultures in conflict zones. The study advocates for an interdisciplinary approach, merging anthropological insights into security strategies and military interventions. Ultimately, it outlines pathways for operationalizing culture and applying these concepts practically in operational settings to enhance the efficacy of military endeavors and foster dialogue and cooperation amidst globalization and cultural diversity. The main foundation of ethnomathematics is an awareness of the many ways of knowing and doing mathematics that relate to the values, ideas, notions, procedures, and practices in a diversity of contextualized environments. The ethnomathematical practices of the Agta Tabangnon refer to the form of varying mathematical concepts that are embedded in their cultural practices. This paper presents the results of the efforts in documenting the ethnomathematics of the Agta Tabangnon in Sitio Ruras, Barangay Hiwacloy, Goa, Camarines Sur, Philippines. The significant contributions and challenges relative to their ethnomathematical concepts and cultural practices were also discussed. The Agta Tabangnon is a society that manifests a stable cultural practice that captures and addresses every facet of their daily lives. Their ethnomathematics are instances of cultural practices that are passed down from generation to generation and have had a significant impact on society. In computing the perimeter of their farm, they used tupong and dupa. Tupong is literally equivalent to forty dupa. A dupa is equivalent to 1.7272 meters. One of their distinct products is the kabud, a bunch of braided dried abaca leaf that is folded twenty-five times with one dupa per fold. A rice measuring equipment called "takadan bagas" is commonly used by merchants in Sitio Ruras to measure the rice they sell and to prepare rice for cooking. This "takadan bagas" has three sizes such as, "takadan", "litrohan", and "gantahan". The ethnomathematics and cultural practices of the Agta Tabangnon are the way their cultural group mathematizes their own realities in order to survive earnestly, so learning their practices is one way for us to embrace cultural diversity in our increasingly interconnected world.
